The Roamer was built in Kalamazoo, Michigan, from 1917 29. An assembled car, its most distinctive styling element was a Rolls-Royce inspired grille (hence spelling the name RoameR). It is estimated that 11,850 cars were produced, including this car, which is powered by a 54 hp, 303.1 cu. in. inline L-head six-cylinder Continental engine.
According to the consignor, while little is known of its earliest history, the Roamer was purchased by Harold Soulas in 1965 at the Pan Pacific Auditorium in Los Angeles. Sometime during the 1980s, Soulas had the car restored in California. Following his passing in 1990, his widow sold the car a few years later at auction. In 2009 Larry Burns and David Granger of Bradford, Ontario, Canada, acquired the car, and it was later acquired by the consignor in April 2016.
Realizing the significance of the car this is the only Roamer Sport touring known to exist a decision was made to elevate the car to concours quality. The car was disassembled and repainted; most nickel pieces were re-plated; incorrect wiring was removed and all wiring replaced; the car was mechanically refreshed; and the chassis was detailed all in the shop of the consignor.
Following its appearance at the AACA National Meet in Mankato, Minnesota, in 2016, the Roamer received its AACA First Junior and a Best in Class at the 10,000 Lakes Concours dElegance later that year. In 2017 the car was honored with the AACAs W. Emmert Swigart Memorial Cup; an Amelia Award at the Amelia Island Concours; its AACA Senior; Best in Class at both the Concours of America at St. Johns and the Milwaukee Concours; and 99.75 points out of 100 in judging, garnering a CCCA First Place award.
