Additional history of the 1994-1998 Porsche 911 from Hagerty's Weekly Valuation: Introduced in 1993 for the 1994 model year and in time for the 911’s 30th anniversary, the 993 was the very last of the air-cooled Porsches before the company moved on to the water-cooled 996 for the New Millenium, a step that nobody would have expected a generation earlier and one that frustrated Porsche-philes. It was a hugely important car for Porsche that came at a formative, turbulent time. By the mid-1990s, the front-engined cars were all gone and there was a brief time – the 1996 model year – that the Boxster hadn’t arrived yet and the 993 was the only model in Porsche’s lineup. The 993 replaced the 1989-94 version of the 911 called the 964. After putting together a 20-page paper in 1990 that defined what exactly a Porsche was, the company bigwigs decided that the 911 was indispensible and actually the backbone of the company. Work on an all-new car commenced. As for styling, it was an all-new look while still unmistakably 911. Styled by Englishman Tony Hatter, it had wide, muscular bulges in all the right places, and the lower front fenders meant that it was the first 911 in which the drivers couldn’t see them from the cockpit. The body had a drag coefficient of 0.33, which also reduced lift at speed. Reception for the 993 was immediate and enthusiastic. Motor Sport succinctly proclaimed “this is by far the best 911 so far” and Car and Driver remarked that “this is the first 911 that’s truly chuckable, and you would have to do something stupid to get into trouble…all the involving intricacies of the chassis’s personality are still there to be savored.” Car and Driver also called the 993 “the planet’s most eminently practical supercar”. The very last air-cooled 911 was a 1998 Mexico Blue Carrera 4S that was sold to Jerry Seinfeld, and it marked the end of an era. Porsche had built 410,348 air-cooled 911s before moving on to the somewhat unloved water-cooled 996. The 993 is collectible for a lot of reasons. It’s not just that it’s the last air-cooled car. It’s the blend of classic 911 looks, heritage and sound with modern technology and conveniences. Many consider it to be the best looking of all 911s as well, and it’s certainly one of the most rewarding cars to drive, even if some of the newer 911s are quicker.

There are good arguments to be made that the Porsche 930 (AKA the 911 Turbo) was the first civilized supercar. As reliable as an anvil and the fastest car on the German Autobahns for almost a decade, it proved that high performance didnt have to be finicky. Well, as long as you were skillful enough to drive it to its potential, that is. This remarkable 1979 930 delivers every bit of the driving experience youd expect. Towering power, awesome brakes, and handling (once youve mastered it) all make it one of the most entertaining road cars ever devised. In 1979, the 930 was rated at 300 horsepower (for comparisons sake, a 1979 Corvette made 180 horsepower) thanks to an intercooler added in 1978. This Guards Red example is still tight and solid in typical Porsche fashion, but subtly modified to deliver astounding performance, even by todays standards. The car was repainted some years ago but still looks great and theres no evidence to suggest it was ever wrecked or damaged. With flared fenders, a Euro-style front bumper and headlights, and unique lower-body cladding, the Turbo is unmistakable coming or going, even without the towering whale tail spoiler. It has a lean, taut look that somehow most performance cars lacked, as if its steel skin were pulled taut over the muscles underneath. Inside you get deeply sculpted black leather buckets, a fat steering wheel, and exceptional preservation, as most of the equipment is original. As usual, Porsche puts the tach front and center, since thats really all you need to know when youre hustling at 10/10ths and the 5-speed gearbox, once youve familiarized yourself with it and the floor-mounted clutch, has a delightfully mechanical feel. A newer AM/FM/CD stereo has been stuffed into the dash, and is a big improvement over the stock Blaupunkt unit. Part of the 911s universal appeal is the upright windshield, which makes it feel airy and bright inside, plus those two occasional seats in back, which really are reserved for kids or a briefcase, not actual adults. Up front theres a usable and fully upholstered trunk area with a shock tower brace, but if youre a Porsche owner, you know to travel light. The 930s claim to fame was the astoundingly powerful 3.3 liter turbo flat-six in back. With a massive K27 turbo, boost comes on like a shotgun blast, which is why these cars have such a split personality. Master it, however, and youll be at the helm of one of the most potent road cars ever unleashed on the general public, and even today its performance will humble just about everything on the road that doesnt cost $100,000. This one has been freshly rebuilt, along with the turbo and intercooler (receipts included), so it runs beautifully, and thanks to massive disc brakes, itll bounce your forehead off the dashboard if things get out of hand. Other upgrades include a new fuel system, A/C updated to R134a refrigerant, a B&B header system, and a lot of other details to make it dependable and fast. With gorgeous Fuchs alloys and sticky 15-inch radials, it is ready to be a thrilling daily driver or a stunning track machine, or some combination of the two. Complete with service records, this is a 930 with no hidden secrets that you can buy with confidence. Experience a legend and call today!

Porsche Boxters are a bunch of fun to drive. You can just zip around town with them, they fit easily in parking spaces, and they have two trunks to stash stuff in. But they are also ready, willing and able to tear up a back road or even enter an autocross on a Sunday afternoon. Come on down and check this one out. Dark Blue metallic along with a fluid shape makes this car pretty stealthy. It looks like the air shaped the curves of the fenders as it flowed up the hood and over the tops of them. Up front an integrated spoiler reaches low for the ground to keep air from getting under the car. The air intakes above it are for the brakes as well as the radiators and the headlights have aerodynamic covers. Body colored mirrors and door handles keep the look clean and the Black convertible top looks great either up or down. Intakes in the rear fenders feed nice cool air to the engine. The rear of the car looks shaped by the air again as it flows together over the fenders and wraps down over the rear bumper. The rear valence has two diffusers drawing air out from under the car with the exhaust tip exiting out the center. Open the door and you will find the comfortable, modern interior that you would expect in a high line sports-luxury car. The door panel is dark gray with accent lines that echo the shape of the car with the power window switches as well as a couple of the speakers for the stereo mounted exactly where they belong. The high back sport seats are trimmed in leather and are comfortable as well as supportive for spirited driving. The steering wheel is sculpted, wrapped in leather, and feels good in your hands. The paddles shifters mean that you never have to take your hands off the wheel to shift it either. A trio of gauges has the tach as the largest and is directly in front of the driver (as it should be) and the speedo as well as engine gauges are off to the sides. The center console holds the FM/CD stereo on the top with the ventilation controls below it as well as the shifter. Under the hood, or actually, hidden under the middle of the car, is a 2.9-liter flat 6-cylinder engine that cranks out 255 horsepower at 6400 RPM. The front hood and rear trunk provide a surprising amount of storage space and there is access to the oil dipstick and fill tube in the rear. Further access to the engine can be had by pulling access panels if you are inclined to do your own work. This engine has already been serviced up recently with fresh oil and filter as well as having a couple oil seals replaced and a new battery. It sends the power back to a 7-speed PDK transmission which gets it to the rear wheels through an independent, multilink suspension. Up front, power rack and pinion steering provides good feel and outstanding handling while big disc brakes at all four corners make sure that you can stop this car in a hurry. 205/50/17s in the front and 235/5017s in the rear are mounted on those beautiful Porsche 5-lug alloys. A power operated top, a comfortable interior with all the luxuries, and plenty of space for your groceries or luggage for a weekend getaway. This car is fun to drive and practical too. Come on down and check it out.

Porsche Parade National Champion 911 S 2.7 Liter Six 5 Speed Sunroof /// Back in 1973, car enthusiasts Suzie Hunt and Scott Campbell decided to throw caution to the wind and seriously upgrade their mode of transportation. The problem was, Porsche dealers were only allotted six 911S each and, since it was late in the model year, most cars were already spoken for. That is, unless you went to Vasek Polak, a personal friend of Dr. Ferry Porsche who, in 1959, had opened Americas first exclusive Porsche dealership. Vasek had managed to talk the factory in to sending him twelve 911S, and one of them, this Porsche Silver Metallic beauty, found its first home with Suzie and Scott. When the 911 arrived at Polaks, it was one of two cars, of its 6-unit S car lot, that had been optioned with a $447 sunroof. In fact, when that sunroof was combined with the coupes other options - fog lights, Recaro seats, an AM/FM cassette deck and a 5-speed manual transaxle, it was priced almost as much as a 2.7RS that Vasek was somehow peddling as a street legal beast. But, after a bit of consideration, the couple decided to stick with the S. Scott and Suzie wasted no time stretching the 911s legs, making an all-out run from Reno to Salt Lake City long before events like the Silver State Classic Challenge were even considered. Their rules were simple: obey established speed limits, which, in 1973, amounted to just townships, and keep the car above 100 MPH. The result was an average speed of 95.8 MPH, with top speeds of 130 MPH for Suzie and 150 MPH for Scott, accomplished on a long, downhill charge. The next three years would see Scott and Suzie dominate Porsche Club of America autocross events across Nevada and Northern California. And in 1977, Suzie won the Porsche Club of America Porsche Parade. Are you a savvy enthusiast who values purity, athleticism and equity above all else?
