Back in the early 60s, you could buy a turn-key racecar from your local Dodge dealer, and it would look a lot like this 1964 Dodge Polara 500 hardtop. Of course, the full-race machines were incredibly rare, but the guys who knew their hardware also knew that when they saw a car that looked like this industrial-strength Mopar, they should probably steer well clear of it lest they get badly hurt. Make no mistake, this no-nonsense Polara carries what appears to be its original 426 Street Wedge engine, a more user-friendly version of the full-race piece. It also offers the same bare-knuckle street fighter look that screams high performance in a very low-key way. The bodywork is super straight, almost like it rolled out of the factory just a few years ago, and it shows off the work of guys who knew their stuff. They didnt have to work very hard since this was a clean, dry car with no major issues to handle. It has been refinished in its original code P Ruby Red, so maybe its not designed to be subtle, but even in red, most guys wont know whats coming until its too late. Chryslers turbine look was in fashion in 1964, and they retained all the chrome and stainless trim on this one to enhance the sleeper look. To guys who know what theyre looking at, this car is gorgeous. As for everyone else, well, dont say we didnt warn you. Just because it was built to pound the pavement doesnt mean it wasnt also comfortable and stylish inside. With big-car comfort and sporty twin buckets flanking a stock center console, it balances just the right amount of flash with no-nonsense attitude. The interior is in excellent condition, with nice seat covers, plush carpets, and a surprisingly well-preserved dash pad. The gauges are original and in good condition, and theyre joined by a vintage tach on the steering column, supplanting the original one in the console, which sadly isnt working. Yes, thats a Hurst 4-speed in the center console, which really emphasizes the no-nonsense vibe of this Polara, and the wheel has a leather wrap to make it easy to grab. For effect, it retains the original AM radio (it doesnt work and you wont miss it), and theres even a full-sized spare in the well-detailed trunk to help with ballast. The engine is the cars original 426 cubic inch Street Wedge V8. Not related to the Hemi, it nevertheless was one of the most feared powerplants on the streets in the early days of the horsepower wars. Its largely stock save for an Edelbrock carburetor, and they obviously went out of their way to make it look as stock as possible. That means a stock air cleaner, stamped valve covers, Hemi Orange paint on the block, and those wild exhaust manifolds that just barely clear the shock towers. A 2.5-inch exhaust system is equipped with aggressive mufflers, and youd better believe this sucker sounds nasty. The aforementioned 4-speed manual gearbox feeds the stock rear end full of 3.91 gears on a Sure-Grip limited slip, so the sucker is seriously fast on the roll. Clean floors, recent shocks, and period Cragar mags with fat 245/60/15 Dunlop radials round out the package. They say that beauty is in the eyes of the beholder, but this one is beautiful to the guy holding the time slips. A great cruiser that still has the moves. Call today!
Original, authentic and beautiful are a few of the words that describe this car. It has had only 2 owners since it was new and they kept everything from the original sales brochure, window sticker and owners-manual as well as receipts of the services performed along the way. If your preferences tend toward classic cars that are extremely well documented and original, we think you will find this car very appealing and are likely to become its 3rd owner. Check it out. Dodge did a great job when they redesigned the 63 model to be smaller, lighter and more sculpted than its predecessor. The original owner of the car also did a great job in selecting the color of Polar White with a Red accent down the side. Of-course being a mid-sixties car means that there is some beautiful chrome dressing it out too. At the front of the car a segmented grill of vertical bars leads the way with two of the four headlights set into it underlined by a sharp looking chrome bumper while the other two headlights are perched on the ends of the fenders with chrome bezels. The fender wells and rocker panels are trimmed with chrome piping and Polara appears in script on the front fender with 500 gracing the sail panel and the Red accent down the side is outlined in nicely polished stainless. The back of the car kind of starts on the side with a piece of polished trim blending into a simple and clean looking rear bumper that wraps around and under the chrome trimmed taillights. Open the door and you will find an all original condition interior in Alabaster and Red. It is in great shape with just a little bit of wear and fading as is expected and which are marks of pride in a survivor interior. The door panel alternates white and red with thin chrome piping outlining it. The front buckets have pleated red seating surfaces accented in white piping with alabaster bolsters surrounding it, and there is a center console between them. The two-spoke steering wheel is also red and white with a full circle chrome horn ring and Polara badge in the center. Behind it is a completely stock dash panel that is in excellent condition with the rectangular speedo on the top and smaller rectangular gauges below it. The automatic transmission is controlled by those wonderful push button selectors which are mirrored on the other side by ventilation buttons in the same style. The original AM radio is still in place with a speaker in the sculpted dash just above it. Open the hood and you will find an all original engine bay with the original 383 nestled down inside it. The motor, like the interior, is proud to show off its survivor credibility rather than getting all painted up and dressed up as part of a restoration. From the original black air filter assembly through the carb, intake, heads and exhaust manifold, it is all authentic and stock. There is a fresh set of mufflers and pipes on the car, and again, there is a whole notebook full on maintenance records with this car so you can see exactly what has been serviced, when, where and how. Power flows back through a Torqueflite three-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels mounted on leaf springs. Up front, control arms and torsion bars work with the power steering to provide good handling. The rubber meets the road through 215/70R14 white wall tires mounted on steel wheels with the original hub caps. Extremely well documented, authentic, original, and beautiful. This car is looking for its 3rd owner. Would that be you? Call or come on down and check it out.
This beautiful Polara 500 convertible possess the most three of the most desirable automotive attributes - style, comfort and performance. A combination of a very well maintained original car and correct restoration efforts the Polara is in exceptional condition, both physically and mechanically. The laser straight body is presented in the original Ivory White color with the its red accent striping and chrome surround. The unique grill, body trim and chrome brightwork all look great, a testament to the terrific care the Polara has received its entire life. Under the hood is the powerful, factory-correct 383 cubic inch V8 engine equipped with a four-barrel carburetor. Horsepower is rated at a stout 330 providing plenty of thrust for this full-size convertible. In the sixties, Chrysler Corporation cars came with “pushbutton automatics” — rather than moving a lever or turning a knob, car owners could push the button for the gear they wanted. This unique feature is certainly a different approach from traditional column and console shifters. Power brakes and power steering add to the experience, making driving a delight. Highly equipped from the factory this Dodge features air conditioning, a rarely ordered option, especially on convertibles. Similarly, the power operated convertible top makes open-air motoring a breeze. Inside the very clean cabin are a pair of two-tone bucket seats, center console and full seat belts, front and rear. The Polara rides on gleaming Magnum 500 wheels on B.F. Goodrich Silvertown radial redline tires. This beautiful convertible is in excellent running order and is the perfect car for open top driving any day of the year! History The Dodge Polara is an automobile introduced in the United States for the 1960 model year as Dodges top-of-the-line full-size car. The name Polara is a reference to the Polaris star, in a marketing attempt to appeal to the excitement surrounding the Space Race during the early 1960s. The Polara was a competitor to the Ford Galaxie 500 and the Chevrolet Impala. Why This Car Is Special The 1963 Dodge Polara we have at Skyway Classics is built to be as close as possible to what a period street and race car would have been back then. Is has great workmanship on the outside and sweet color matched interior, a modified 440 cubic inch engine under the hood, with the correct push button transmission, which makes this car awesome. Mechanical These lightweight Polaras were a force to be reckoned with both on and off the tracks back then. And this one will hold its own today. Those functional hood scoops flow air into a 4 barrel performance carb and aluminum intake manifold. Exhaust is handled efficiently all the way out to the dual exhaust in the rear. It also has a 440 air cleaner assembly, performance wires and ignition, chrome MOPAR valve covers, and a H.D radiator. All the power from the engine is sent to the rear end by a push-button equipped 727 Torqueflite trans. The Dodge rides on great tires on aluminum mag wheels. Interior The inside of the Polara looks like new. The interior trim is great and the dash is painted to match the aqua color of the body which makes it stunning to see. The stock looking vinyl seats are covered in aqua with a center armrest, even the headliner was color matched when it was replaced. The steering wheel and the dash puts everything at your fingertips including the correct push buttons that control the transmission. Factory gauges and the speedometer are complimented by a performance tack and shift light on top of the dash. Exterior Our Polara has a great body with beautiful brightwork and chrome. The four headlights are surrounded by polished trim, shiny bumpers front and rear, and the racy looking hood scoops really set of this car. The mag racing wheels, with the larger rears squeezed up under the fenders, look just right here and give the car a nice rake. Conclusion Come see our 1963 Dodge Polara and you will agree this is a great looking car and a nice ride to cruise in or take to the shows. So give us a call at 941-254-6608. We also finance! Gateway Classic Cars of Louisville is proud to present this cool 1964 Dodge Polara. The Dodge Polara was an automobile introduced in the United States for the 1960 model year as Dodges top-of-the-line full-size car; after the introduction of the Dodge Custom 880 in 1962, the Polara nameplate designated a step below the full sized best trimmed Dodge model; the Polara that year had been downsized to what was in effect intermediate, or mid-size status. In its various forms, the Polara name was used by Dodge until 1973, when its position in Dodges line-up was replaced by the Dodge Monaco. The name Polara is a reference to the Polaris star, in a marketing attempt to appeal to the excitement surrounding the Space Race during the early 1960s. The Polara was a competitor to the Ford Galaxie 500 and the Chevrolet Impala. The 1964 models received a revised front end and new tail lamps to distinguish them from the 1963 cars. Rear end treatment took its inspiration from the Chevrolet Impala, the Polara models now featuring six small, square-shaped taillights (three on each side) surrounded by an attractive bright trim panel. Lesser mid-size Dodges featured only four taillights (two on each side) and lacked the bright trim panel. A sensational new C pillar for the hardtop coupes, combined with the more attractive front and rear end styling, made the 64s look totally new (and longer/ lower/wider as well), resulting in a significant increase of sales over 1963. The Polara 500 continued as Dodges sporty mid-size model, competing with the full-size Ford Galaxie 500/XL and Chevrolets Impala Super Sport, featuring an engine-turned anodized aluminum trim strip along the cars flanks, bucket seats and deluxe vinyl upholstery. This 1964 Dodge Polara is equipped with a 440ci Max wedge motor sporting two huge carbs and uses a 727 torqueflight transmission and a suregrip rear end to put the power to the pavement. This 1964 Polara has been upgraded with: ANA intake manifold, steel crankshaft, balanced rods, 440 source roller rockers, heads ported and chambered, low compression pistons, high volume oil pump, high volume oil pan, oil windscreen, oil pan baffle, high output Powermaster alternator, large drive shaft, vinyl interior, and disc front brakes. Whether you are cruising around town or out drag racing your buddies in their Camaro s and Stangs, this Polara is sure to hold its own on the road. Options on this beautiful 1964 Dodge Polara include: Power steering, seat belts, vinyl interior, and radial tires. Gateway Classic Cars of Scottsdale is proud to offer this rarely-seen 1963 Dodge Polara convertible for sale right now. Equipped with the standard 383-2V CID V8 putting out 305 HP and a Torqueflite transmission, this combo is easy to maintain, repair, and get parts for. The car was originally white and was re-painted the same color in the year 2000. The current owner has had the privilege of being this Polaras caretaker for almost 18 years, and the love and respect he has for the car is obvious. Options like hang-on AC, cruise control, power steering, and the early-style 15 American Racing wheels make you think its the mid-sixties again. To continue that vibe, the owner has an aluminum Weiand four barrel intake manifold and a Holley four barrel carburetor hell include with the car for the new owner. The tastefully restored red vinyl interior also has added seat belts, but still retains the original carpeting in the salt and pepper style pattern that is not being reproduced, so to see it in this original condition is very unusual. Make no mistake; this car has not been restored, only well-maintained throughout its 55 years since it left the factory. It has a new radiator, water pump, belts, hoses, and tires, all replaced when required. This car runs as good as it looks, offering the new owner a vehicle you wont see at every car show that will get you there and home in reliable comfort. With only 7300 built over half a century ago, there are probably very few left in this condition. Dont miss this beautiful example of a car from Mopars most exciting era of performance and design. 1963 Dodge Polara - 4 door Hardtop. This is a very nice car for its age. Took it to a show in September, i ran out of breath talking to people about because it got so much attention. (Super Rare feature) 4k Stall Torque Converter No idea what this car makes for power - but its quick Okay heres the bad news. Transmission loses 3rd gear once the car is warmed up. Talked with a local transmission shop, and they say the transmission will need to be rebuilt most likely. Also the exhaust needs to be redone engine back, mostly for cosmetics as the headers are a little beat up.
