If youve been paying attention, youll notice that were not the only ones selling Land Cruisers like crazy. Trucks like this 1972 Toyota FJ40 are some of the hottest things on four wheels right now and if this one looks affordable, thats only for the moment. With the right look, the right colors, and the gear, its still a lot of fun off road, but it can also be a wise investment. Apparently the best shape for a 4x4 is a two-box design with sharp corners, and Toyota has been doing it successfully for decades. Youll note that this one wears gorgeous bright red paint for a high-impact look and the flat bodywork is remarkably free of damage. Clearly this one hasnt been crawling through the jungles of Burma, but rather lived an easy life on pavement somewhere in the warm southern US. Typical Toyota build quality means these trucks are virtually indestructible, but just for good measure someone spent quite a bit of time and effort, not to mention money, getting it back into shape. Theres an appropriate shine thats not so glaringly perfect that it looks domesticated, and the simple bumpers, distinctive white-framed grille, and rubber fender flares all reinforce the ready-for-anything vibe. The winch on the front suggests that this truck is up for anything and its hard to beat the look of something that treasures function over form like this FJ. The interior of this FJ has been upgraded as needed to make it functional without losing its character. Aftermarket front buckets are a lot more supportive than the original flat chairs, and that makes a big difference when youre crawling through the mud. Sure, everything is pretty basic inside, but the FJ does it with style, offering a bright red dashboard with black pads, an easy-to-reach shifter, and zero-maintenance floors. The rear bench is newer and theres plenty of room for four inside, plus their gear in the cargo bay. The cleverly designed dash allows easy construction of both right-hand and left-hand drive trucks, with the white instrument panel holding a speedometer and auxiliary gauges that are easy to read. Controls are easy to decipher and everything works as youd expect from a Toyota. The full cage is reassuring when youre in the rough and it comes with a full set of weather equipment, including doors and top. The 3.8-liter inline-six has served on at least six continents over the past 50 years and remains one of the most reliable and sturdy machines yet conceived by man. Its also pleasingly torquey and smooth, so you wont regret sitting behind the wheel for a few hours. The point of the FJ isnt all-out speed, so its fairly stock under the hood, with an aftermarket air cleaner, a giant aluminum radiator, and brightly colored plug wires, but nothing that will interfere with its reputation. Youll note theres a modern dual reservoir master cylinder, which powers a set of front disc brakes, a worthwhile safety upgrade. A 3-speed manual transmission, 2-speed transfer case, and heavy-duty axles provide the go-anywhere part of the FJs resume, and the suspension, while capable, is still civilized enough to use every day on your commute. Theres a recent exhaust that has the right sound and its fitted with big 33x12.50-15 off-road radials on shiny chrome wheels. Make no mistake, FJs are more than just Japanese Jeeps, and the market is speaking. Will this be the one you finally take home for yourself? Call today!
If Americas favorite off-roader is the Jeep, then Japans is the Toyota FJ. But this Japanese-American hybrid 1966 Land Cruiser successfully crosses the Pacific with its box-shaped bodywork thats instantly identifiable on six of the seven continents, plus an equally bulletproof driveline that will take it just about anywhere. Its hard to call the FJ styled because its simply the bare minimum required to carry people and gear to inhospitable places. However, thats the appeal, a go-anywhere, do-anything kind of vehicle that has become iconic with its abilities. The light blue paint is older, but combined with the white top and fender flares, it actually looks awesome. Fit and finish are what you get when you go off-roading, with decent but not perfect paint and Toyota build quality that you can still feel when you slam the door. Its got the right look for a vehicle thats used as intended, not relegated to the show field, and we like it a lot better that way. The body is quite solid with no issues in the usual places, and the truck obviously hasnt been beaten to death off-road. Theres a heavy-duty bumper up front ostensibly designed to push large objects out of its way, and a winch means youre always able to get out of a jam. Out back, theres a full-sized spare and a hitch, making this a truck that really can do it all. The interior is nowhere near as bare-bones as youd expect, with comfortable bucket seats and a pair of folding jump seats in back. Sure, all the hard panels like the doors and dash are painted to match the body, but its easy to get comfortable in there for long hauls along the trail. All the controls are original Toyota, including the big steering wheel that makes it easy to put the front wheels exactly where you want them and a column-mounted shifter for the manual gearbox. The factory gauges are still in place, too, and they all seem to work properly to keep an eye on the engines vitals. The white canvas top and doors open up for alfresco motoring, or you can remove them in a matter of minutes to go completely open. Youll probably find theres no better vehicle for tailgating than this! At some point, the original inline-six was yanked and replaced, but the original character and durability is completely unchanged. Matching numbers isnt really a thing with these trucks and the quality of the work means that this off-roader is still just as reliable as it was originally. Clearly a lot of work went into the freshening, as it has a recent tune up, new fuel pump and carburetor, and all new fluids throughout. The industrial-strength air cleaner remains in place and the radiator is big enough for a semi-tractor. Underneath, its 100% Toyota reliability, with original axles fore and aft suspended on a 2-inch lift that looks awesome and adds ground clearance, and with 4.11 gears inside, its zippy around town and capable in the dirt. Cool Blacked-out Ultra Motorsports wheels have an industrial look and carry giant 33x10.5-15 BFGoodrich radials that look like they could climb Everest. Go ahead, take this one out and tear up some dirt, it wont mind. Icons are like that, and with unbeatable reliability, youll always be the first to the top of the hill. Call today!
Carol Shelby isnt the only person to put a big engine in a little machine. This machine is a bit different than his, but the effect is the same. Super performance. This little yellow Toyota is ready for some serious 4x4 action. Come on down and check it out. You wont find anything on this truck that doesnt have a purpose or doesnt need to be there. The front bumper stretches from side to side so even if you bump a tree or lean into a bank, it should glance off and keep going. If it doesnt, there are convenient tow rings that are easy to get to for an assist. The bars on top protect the fenders and grill while pushing trees and brush up and out of the way. Out back there is a receiver for a trailer and a tailgate that folds down. Everything else is minimalist. If you are heading for the lake instead of the mud bog or mountains, then the Yellow paint looks good pulling up to the docks or backed in around a bon fire. The roof is removable and showing up at the party with people hanging off the roll bar is always fun. Minimalist describes the interior of this truck too. Its pretty much all business. There is no door panel dressing out the inside of the door. (It would just be extra weight and be hard to clean too). The seats are nicely padded Master Craft racing units with RJs Racing Equipment harnesses to hold you in place when the going gets tough. A Grant GT steering wheel provides good grip for the driver. The stock dash panel holds the speedo along with engine gauges across the bottom, but a set of Sunpro gauges for water temp, oil pressure and voltage to keep accurate track of those things has been added on the lower left. A B&M T-handle shifter for the automatic transmission is mounted on the floor with the lever for the transfer case just behind it. The whole floor pan has been rhino lined in black, and while having no back-seat leaves plenty of room for coolers, any passengers will end up sitting on them or hanging onto the roll bar. Now for the big engine part. Raise the hood and you will find a 402 cubic inch Chevy sitting down in the engine bay. It actually fits in there rather nicely, and the tremendous torque of a big block engine comes in handy in the places this truck is designed to go. A massive K&N air filter feeds an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and RPM intake manifold. A Comp Cams hydraulic cam provides the lift while black valve covers keep the oil where it belongs. MSD handles the ignition duties and stainless long tube headers get the spent gasses out and make the truck sound good while they do it. Power is sent back through a Jet Performance built, 700R4 transmission with a shift kit, to locker differentials both front and rear. 4-wheel disc brakes provide good reliable stopping power no matter how much water they are in, and the truck sits up on 35X16.00-15LT Super Swamper TSL Boggers mounted on aluminum wheels. Are you ready for a seriously capable 4X4? Then come on down and check this one out.
If youve been looking for a super clean, well-executed FJ build, then this one is worth your time to consider. This vehicle established Toyotas reputation for building strong, reliable vehicles in the 60s because it proved that it is tough enough to handle the harshest conditions about anywhere on the planet. Their well-earned reputation has made them collectible, as well as capable, trucks. Check out this extremely nice example. Looking good in Dove Gray with a white roof and grill, this truck will attract as much attention and admiration pulling up to a fancy restaurant or Broadway show as exotics and stretch limos do, and it can get you back home to that chalet at the top of the mountain without breaking a sweat too. Attention to detail in preparation for the respray of the factory correct paint resulted in a first-class finish. All the headlamps, lenses, and door hardware are new. The windows are clear and the window seals look fresh too. There is a nice chrome step up with diamond plate on the running boards leading into the cab on both sides. Polished aftermarket wheels with BFGoodrich 33x12.50 ATs mounted reinforce the solid look while adding a bit of custom flair to it. There is a mesh grill up front just over a black bumper, a spare tire mounted on another alloy wheel at the rear, and proper badging all around. Open the door and you will find a minimalist chic interior. The paint work on the inside received just as much love as the paint on the outside, which is good because it is the finish of most of the interior. Obviously, that doesnt apply to the seats. The front is a split bench and comfortable for 3 with Dove Gray cloth seating surfaces trimmed in white vinyl. The dash is also trimmed top and bottom in white vinyl. A beefy three spoke steering wheel has the speedometer directly behind it with gauges for oil, temp, fuel, and amps in a row below it. Switches and control knobs are arranged mostly in the center along with an air conditioning unit mounted below the dash to keep you cool on those hot summer days. Clear instructions for operating the transfer case and transmission are screwed to the glovebox door. The back of the truck opens up for easy access and has upholstered fold down seats on each side for a reasonably comfortable ride up the mountain or across the plains. Under the hood you will find the tried and true, tough as nails, 3.9 liter in line 6-cylinder engine. This is the engine that helped build this trucks reputation for durability and is known for it generous amounts of low end power. It was rebuilt as part of the overall restoration and is clean and dry with new, rebuilt, or refurbished components throughout. Needless to say, before it was reinstalled, the engine bay was painted and polished to a high shine too. Power runs back through a 3-speed manual transmission and transfer case to all 4 wheels. As expected, the chassis was also reconditioned properly with the underside of the body as well as the frame rails and all components properly coated in protective paint. New bushings, new fluid lines to the 4-wheel disc brakes with new rotors and calipers, and new hardware throughout make this truck drive like it just rolled out of the showroom. This is a super clean and super thorough build of a highly desirable FJ40. Come on down, take a look. We think you will agree with that assessment, and you may decide to take this one home with you.

I purchased this Land Cruiser in 2008 from the original owner who's Father bought it brand new in 1974 in Carlsbad New Mexico. I have original registration to prove it! I also have the original doors which are not on the truck! My seller performed a meticulous frame off restoration in 2006 with 60,000 original miles! Since then, I have put maybe 20,000 light miles as a weekend driver, never off road! Always garage kept and only used ethanol-free fuel through original straight 6 engine. All original major parts and regularly maintained by classic Toyota specialist mechanic here in Wilmington, NC. I put new Mickey Thompson tires including spare on in 2010. This truck is all manual as originally produced from the factory: 4 speed transmission, steering, brakes, lockable front hubs. This is a great looking mechanically sound TANK that will not be stopped! And always a head turner! Price negotiable for a quick sale! Too much customization to list, but I have all records and files documenting restoration! Call me to discuss details!

The bed has side-facing fold-down troop seats with seat belts, and speakers nicely hidden underneath. The tail-gate has a locking storage compartment on the inside. Also features a swing-out spare tire mount for the matching spare tire. The truck runs perfectly and is a head-turner. People will stop you at every corner to ask about this immaculate FJ40. Features the original Toyota inline 6 cyl, and this has the factory optional 4-speed manual transmission. This was a US market truck, not an import. The engine has been completely overhauled and tuned up including a rebuild on the carburetor, new gaskets, plugs, brake master cylinder, so much more. This Land Cruiser is ready to win at the car show, or take you off-road in style! The heavy steel front bumper has a Warn 10,000 winch, and the truck has been lifted 4" with a Skyjacker suspension. Finding a 1970 Toyota FJ55 Land Cruiser at an affordable price is already attractive. So when you dig deeper to see all the improvements the upgraded motor, five-speed transmission, four-wheel disc brakes, A/C interior, and much more you soon realize that this attractive classic 4x4 is actually an unbelievable deal. Land Cruiser are already a noteworthy sight on the classic car scene, and the FJ55 is arguably one of the rarest seen of them all. This particular one show off its distinction nicely with a two-tone white and green that utilizes the curves and creases of the sheetmetal for natural dividing lines. Even with the uniqueness of this four-door 4x4, its unmistakably a tough-as-nails Land Cruiser. The big round headlights, large marker lights on the fenders, and sturdy/boxy design easily make them kin to their other FJ brothers. And just like the other Land Cruisers, this one has an instant off-road ready attitude. The tall 4x4 stance, HD push bumper with Warn winch attached, KC lights, full-size spare (on a swing-away mount that includes a ladder and jack,) and the trailer hitch are all part of a package that isnt afraid to keep going when the pavement ends. Inside you find the true advantages of the FJ55. It features two wide bench seats (with seatbelts), doors that shut solid, and plenty of cargo room. It makes for such a nice SUV for family and friends. So there was even extra sound deadening material added to keep everyone comfortable. And speaking of comfort, there are the right upgrades like R134a air conditioning and an upgraded AM/FM/CD stereo with Bluetooth. And the power rear window with fold-down tailgate makes it the ideal place to do sit while you roast campsite marshmallows. The engine bay has had a ton of terrific investments. It starts with an upgrade to a 4.2-liter 2F inline six motor. This was rebuilt about 4,000 miles ago, and that includes bored .30 (now approx. 4.4-liters total,) RV cam, port & polished cylinder head, new carb, and wrapped header. Not only do you have a stronger motor, but you also get better control over it all with an upgrade to a five-speed manual transmission from Man-A-Fre. Even the transfer case was rebuilt to keep this a go-anywhere 4x4. But more than just off-road prowess, the improvements also made it great for anytime driving. This includes additions like power steering and four-wheel disc brakes. Theres even a large aluminum radiator to keep you running cool in traffic. This is an impressive classic for on or off-road. So when this nicely upgraded FJ55 Land Cruiser is also so obtainability priced, you know you need to hurry if you want to take it home. Call today!!!
1972 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. My wife and I purchased this FJ40 in Southern California in January 2013 and had it transported to Ohio. It is an incredible example of a true survivor. If you're looking for an unmolested Land Cruiser you have found it. Yes, undoubtedly it has had some touch ups here and there but you have to see it to believe it.We have replaced tires, full floor mat, front seat upholstery (jump seats original) and had some brake work performed but otherwise it runs as good as it looks! The pictures should say it all but if you have questions or want other specific information let me know.
CRUISIN CLASSICS has entered the TOYOTA world again with a bang. Introducing a 1971 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 4X4. This is a very nice looking, running and performing machine. The restored red exterior (2011),will pull you in and then the black with contrasting red interior will hold you. The NEW (2018), black, split, fold down front seats are for easy access to anywhere in the vehicle. The NEW (2018), black, back seats will fold as well to suit any situation. The inline 3.9 Liter engine (F1 155) with a build date of February, 1971(F-343782) and the build date of this FJ being March of 1971, is a VERY good indication that the original engine is in the compartment and pushing about 155hp. Per the previous owner, this was a Barret-Jackson star that had an engine rebuild in 2011, hence the mileage being low to indicate distance traveled on the fresh engine.Brakes and clutch restored original in August 2013. Also the previous owner was kind enough to upgrade to new OEM bumpers, new carburetor and most importantly...power steering. It was originally a manual 3 speed, column shift vehicle. Now it has a floor shifter to make the driving experience better. This classic is also blessed with a removable top. The soft-top that comes with the your ride looks like new as well as the soft doors. (pictured) The soft-top, soft doors and the rain cover ALL come with their own covers for protection. On the floor in the back is a radiant heater for the travelers that have the backseat advantage. The spare tire swings out, the window swings up and the doors swing out to open up the back for travelers or travelers equipment. This is a spectacular looking classic that we would like you to have. The true Mileage on the car is unknown. If you have any additional questions, please call one of our friendly sales staff. For sale in our Saint Louis showroom is an all original, surviving 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. BACKGROUND: Toyota started production of the Land Cruiser FJ40 in 1960 and began importing them to the US in 1963. The last US-bound FJ rolled off the line in 1983, making a brief comeback as a modern SUV in the US called the FJ Cruiser from 2006 to 2014. From 1963 to 1983 the FJ40 saw little change aesthetically, the only real changes were improvements in technology mechanically. The Classic FJs are as comfortable on a trail as they are on the highway because they were designed to do anything you could ever ask it to do and do it well. This FJ40 is a total survivor, sporting the original Mustard Yellow paint, vinyl interior, and original engine and transmission. This old school SUV is not perfect, it has character throughout, but it is a wonderful example of a California survivor. The 4.2-liter inline 6-cylinder engine has plenty of torque and is mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. These Toyota FJ s featured folding jump seats behind the passenger and driver seats. These folding seats not only made carrying another 2 passengers possible but also allowed for maximum cargo space, as opposed to the folding rear seat in the Jeep CJ series. The hard top on this FJ40 is removable like a Jeep, although it does require a bit more work. Once the top is off though, it is totally worth it, as is has an awesome topless appearance. The odometer reads 17,988, which has rolled over, and the original mileage is believed to be 117,988. Options for this 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 include: AM Radio, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Seat Belts, Vinyl Interior, Raised White Letter Radial Tires, Removeable Hard Top, and of course 4-wheel drive. The value of these classic FJ40 s has been known to be on the rise, with the extremely low mile survivor examples fetching six figures at the gavel. This is a great FJ40 to drive and enjoy as is or restore completely if so desired. This 1975 Toyota FJ40 Landcruiser is for sale in our Louisville KY showroom. By so many standards, the FJ40 Land Cruiser is the definitive 20th century 4x4. With an international pedigree like a Land Rover, the rugged simplicity of a Jeep and swagger like an old Bronco, the FJ is a greatest hits album of classic trucks. Fun to look at, sure, but driving one will take your appreciation to a whole new level. By 1973 300,000 of them were roaming the planet in either hardtop, soft top, station wagon or pickup form. The F in FJ refers to the Type F engine and the J stands for jeep, meaning the more generic WWII-borne use of that term and not the brand Jeep currently owned by Fiat Chrysler. Throw that knowledge around at parties and you re sure to get some phone numbers. All the fun facts are great to know about the FJ40 you are buying from Gateway Classic Cars. The interesting tid bits about this FJ40 is that it is a barn find from Missouri. The current owner, also only the 2nd owner, found this beauty sitting in a barn gathering dust. The owner bought two FJ40 s, this one and another one that was suited for parts. The owner took this FJ40 apart clean everything and had a few small rust places fixed. While the Fj40 was apart the frame was powder coated and the body was repainted to the original factory color of Dune Beige. An Old Man Emo lift kit was added, so that the huge 33x10.5 BF Goodrich Baha Champion Mud Terrain Tires. To help stop these huge tires, a front disc brake conversion has been installed. The engine was inspected, cylinder compression is excellent, therefore only a gasket and seal kit were installed. The seats have been redone in a plush leather like rust colored vinyl that goes well with the Dune Beige paint scheme. This one the cleanest FJ40 to ever grace the Louisville Showroom. It is sure to go fast and do what FJ s do ..4 wheeling! Options on this 1975 Toyota FJ40 Landcruiser include; Vinyl Interior (Seats & Door panels), removable hard top ( assistance will be needed), seat belts and Mud Terrain tires.
