Lets do some math. A word problem. One of 712 Shelby 500KRs produced by Ford in 2009 is sent to Shelby Automobiles for final assembly. While there, it becomes one of about 10 to receive the additional UPFIT kit. How much horsepower is now on tap and how much fun would that equal? The horsepower question we will answer in a minute. The fun factor needs to be answered by the next owner. Might that be you? Out of those 712 produced by Ford this year, only 236 were coated in Ebony Black with Satin Ebony stripes like this one. Thats pretty rare air and adds even further to its collectability. Form follows function on these cars. The carbon fiber hood leads with dual hood scoops to gather up all the air this car needs to breath properly and hood pins are required prevent the beast within from trying to jump out. The huge blacked out grill allows plenty of air through to keep things running cool and it has a Shelby GT500KR badge on it. Below the bumper a spoiler reaches down low to the ground with air inlets directing cooling air to the brakes and fog lights set into it for extra visibility in less than ideal conditions. A rear diffuser along with a lip spoiler on the trunk help keep the back wheels on the ground at speed, and those Black Shelby Forged wheels not only look good but are strong enough to be leaned on at speed. The interior of this car is set up to be an office where you can get down to some serious business, but its also one that surrounds you with plenty of comfort, convenience and safety items for your driving pleasure. A sculpted door panel has a comfortable armrest and one of the speakers for the Shaker 500 FM/CD/Satellite audio system that pumps out the tunes. The bucket seats are very supportive for spirited driving and are trimmed in leather with Shelby KR500 logos embroidered into the seats and the headrests. The leather wrapped steering wheel feels good in your hands and the shifter for the 6-speed manual transmission falls easily into your right hand. Gauges are clearly visible through the steering wheel and Carroll has added a couple more on the dash to keep track of Boost pressure as well as fuel and oil pressure. There is a plaque between the air conditioning vents and Carroll Shelbys autograph is on the glove box. For full details of the standard equipment, plus the UPFIT equipment on this car, please ask your salesperson for the extensive documentation that comes with this car. A few of the basic features will of course include the horsepower figures, but this is a well-balanced car that is the result of attention to detail in all the systems and components. The result is greater than the sum of the parts. It is, however, all driven by a wonder of mechanical engineering, tuned by Carroll Shelby, that generates 605 horsepower. That power flows back through a 6-speed manual gearbox to a 3.73 limited slip differential with traction control so you dont just spin the tires off under acceleration (unless you want to). Shelby and Eibach developed a specially tuned coil over suspension set up with matched sway bars to keep this car planted on the ground and the antilock brake system works through huge Brembo rotors and 6 piston calipers to haul this car down from speed. KR indeed. An undisputed Mustang King of the Road. Beautiful, rare, and blazingly fast. And the icing on the cake, is that modern technology enables it to be all that AND a safe and comfortable street car. Maybe yours? Come on down, check it out, and maybe drive it home.
The horsepower wars are alive and well. Even better than that is the fact that factory hot rods like this Mustang GT500 are not only blazingly fast, but handle well, stop on a dime, and are safe and comfortable too. Maybe you actually can have it all. Check out this car, and you might decide that you can too. When you look at this car, maybe in low light when you just see the silhouette, it is amazing how similar it is to the original cars. The long hood and short trunk cut a familiar line. The iconic triple taillights are still there, but the bodywork drapes a little tighter around the mechanicals and reaches closer to the ground than it used to. Up front there is a body colored bumper now, and on this particular car there is a Snake on the grill instead of a Pony. The body itself is coated in Alloy Clearcoat Metallic (charcoal gray) with bold Silver stripes that run from the bottom of the front spoiler, up and over the roof to the bottom of the rear bumper which has dual chrome exhaust tips peeking out from underneath. A GT500 stripe runs along the rockers between the wheel wells and another snake appears on the front fenders. 18 inch 5-spoke alloy wheels with SVT wheel centers look great and give the car a great stance. Open the door and you will find a comfortable and modern Black interior. It blends comfort and convenience with the technology that enables you to pilot this rocket ship at speed. A sculpted door panel has a comfortable armrest and switches for the power windows and locks at your fingertips. The high back bucket seats are leather, power operated, and comfortable. They have pleated seating surfaces and smooth bolsters to offer support during spirited driving. The beefy leather wrapped steering wheel with the Shelby horn button looks and feels like it belongs in a race car, but it also has cruise control buttons for your convenience. The gauges include an SVT tachometer, are backlit, and are clearly visible through the wheel. The center console has a Shaker 500 FM/CD player for your listening pleasure just above the controls for the ventilation and air conditioning system. The shifter for the 6-speed manual transmission is in the center console and changes gears with the flick of a wrist. Open the hood and you will find a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine that pumps out 500 horsepower. It is completely and gloriously stock, unmodified and unmolested. Just the way Ford built it. Its almost becoming a rarity and hard to find one that hasnt been tweaked in some way these days. The supercharger sits on top and is menacingly black while aluminum valve covers have Powered by SVT embossed into them. You will find the power antilock brake booster and computer that puts the squeeze on big 4-wheel disc brakes under the hood as well as the power steering pump that operates the rack and pinion steering working through a specially tuned strut suspension with a sway bar. Power flows back through that 6-speed trans to the rear wheels located by a multilink suspension with coil springs and a beefy sway bar. The rubber meets the road through 285/40ZR18 tires in the rear and 255/45ZR18s in the front all mounted on those great looking Shelby wheels. This is a low mileage, stock, 500 hp factory hot rod. It is a comfortable road car and a capable track car at the same time. And it could be yours. Come on down and check it out.
