This 1992 GMC Typhoon deserves a closer look! Now featured in our Denver showroom is a very cool example of what the Typhoons are capable of. When the typhoon came out in the early 90 s it gained a lot of attention with its Turbo d V6 and all wheel drive platform. The 4.3L V6 under the hood was pumping out a whopping 280 horsepower from the factory and with the all-wheel drive capabilities was able to hook and go! This 1992 Typhoon though is definitely not stock; the 4.3L block is still under the hood but the internals have since been changed to a forged rotating assembly including Eagle rods, 8:5.1 JE pistons, Comp Cams 412 camshaft with .500 lift at 234/234 @ 114 degrees of separation. 1.5 self aligning roller rocks, matched valve spring, and all dressed up with ARP hardware. The original heads were changed out for a set of 1996 772 casting Vortec heads machined and modified to mate to the factory lower intake for better flow and all of this was done for the icing on the cake the stock turbo was changed out for the larger PTE 51 turbo! This set up is significantly more power than the way it came stock and it is easy to tell while driving. Running and conservative 18 lbs. of boost on the current tune this Typhoon can pull mid twelve second quarter mile times at sea-level while still being very much streetable. The 4L80E transmission provides crisp shifts in between gears and comes equipped with a 2800 rpm lock up stall converter purchased through TCS and the transmission is controlled via TCI EZ ECU with programmable parameters. The interior has been kept mostly stock on this truck with exception to the gauge cluster on the A-pillar and the Premier aftermarket radio installed. Driving this Typhoon is an absolute blast! It handles very well and seems to have endless amounts of power. Now Featured in our Denver showroom is this stunning low mile 1992 GMC Typhoon with just over 10,000 miles since new! The Typhoon was one of the first of its breed with an auto manufacturer deciding to make a performance vehicle out of an SUV and had a short life span from 1991-1993. Powering these trucks was a 4.3L turbocharged V6 pumping out a strong 280HP from the factory and delivered it to all four wheels! The Typhoon has been a bit of a lost gem until recently and has started to become a very popular vehicle for collectors and enthusiasts everywhere. This Typhoon has been very well kept over the years and has only had two owners since new. The red paint still looks like it did on the showroom floor and very few were built in this color. Getting behind the wheel of this GMC, you would hardly guess what it is capable of. It all becomes very clear once you start cruise though and lay your foot into the throttle! The all wheel drive hooks up hard and presses you back in your seat with authority. This unassuming pickup will surprise most of the cars it passes and will do so in style and comfort! This Typhoon has been well maintained over the years and would make an excellent investment piece or toy to take out on nice weekends. GMC released a limited production example of a high-performance variant of the Jimmy which was aptly named the Typhoon and was produced alongside its counterpart, the Syclone, from 1992-1993. Both models featured a Mitsubishi TD06-17C/8 Turbocharger and a Garrett water and air-cooler which was attached to a 4.3L V6. This combination of performance parts would get the Typhoon pushing 60 mph in 5.7 seconds and a quarter mile in 14.5 seconds straight from the factory. When Car and Driver reviewed the Syclone which had the same engine they favorably compared it to the likes of the Ferrari 348ts, a Corvette and even the 300ZX Turbo. With the Typhoon coming out with an initial sticker just under $30,000, this vehicle gave a lot of bang for its buck.GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this one-owner and unmolested example of the 1992 GMC Typhoon for your consideration.
