Right now, the biggest performance bang for your buck is unquestionably the C4 Corvette. Comfortable, reliable, and fast, theyre everything youd want in a modern sports car, and cars like this 1990 Chevrolet Corvette coupe are a fantastic way to have fun without breaking the bank. Torch Red has looked good on the Corvette practically from day one (OK, red wasnt on the menu until 1955, but you know what I mean). The C4 has aged quite well, still remaining an iconic design that resonates with enthusiasts who know that during its tenure, it was one of the most potent cars in the world with handling and braking to match. Today, finding an unmolested survivor that has been in adult hands all its life is rather rare, given their combination of performance and reasonable cost. Fortunately, this car survived quite nicely and proudly wears its red paint and fiberglass skin in defiance of nearly 30 years of service. As GMs flagship built in a dedicated factory in Bowling Green, KY, paint quality was above average on the Vette and thanks to 22 years of being someones cherished toy, it looks pretty good, although a professional buff would really wake it up. And nothing makes an entrance like a shiny red Corvette with a rumbling exhaust. Corvettes were pushing technological barriers in 1990, and this coupe is equipped with just about every trick GM could dream up. The basics, of course, are covered: power locks and windows, A/C, and a tilt column, among others. The black leather seats are in decent condition with only some minor wear on the drivers outer bolster, which admittedly sees a lot of action, and some cracking in the leather thats probably inevitable. The digital/analog instrument panel still has bright, sharp markings and the digital gauges are a lot more legible and functional than youd think. The auto shifter falls to hand easily and youll find that getting into this car is like coming home, because everything is right where you expect. The hatch area isnt great for storage, but its good enough for two people, and aside from a spill mark on the carpet, its in good order. This is still a great place to hang out and have some fun. The 350 cubic inch L98 V8 was the mainstay for much of the C4s production run, eventually supplanted by the LT1. However, for many Corvette fans, theres just no substitute for the big hit of low-end torque delivered by the L98 and thanks to a vast aftermarket, performance upgrades are little more than a phone call away. However, this remains a double-edged sword and finding a Corvette without all the bolt-ons is a challenge. However, aside from an aftermarket exhaust system with a mellow soundtrack, this one carries all stock-style equipment. That means when you turn the key, it starts. Its a little grumpy when its cold, but most L98s are like that, and it goes away pretty quickly as it warms up. And yes, the torque is impressive, hurling the car forward like it was launched from the USS Nimitzs catapult. The 700R4 4-speed automatic overdrive transmission is quick-witted and with an overdrive gear, it just loafs along on the highway, making the C4 and ideal high-speed mode of travel. Powerful disc brakes, a reasonably comfortable suspension, and giant 275/40/17 Goodyear radials mean that its ready to rock today. Representing incredible performance and incredible value, this Corvette definitely delivers on the promises made by its famous bodywork. Call today!
This car is a rare and unique chapter in Corvette history. It was the product of the purchase of Lotus engineering by General Motors, and the task they were assigned of making a C4 Corvette the worlds fastest production car. They did that by building an awesome double over head cam engine, dubbed the LT5, that powered the car to seven international and world records on March 1st, 1990. It was exorbitantly expensive to build, and to buy, this special car in 1990. Today, you have a chance to own this low mileage example at a small fraction of that price. All the new C4 Corvettes had new more sleeker styling than the C3s, but in 1990, the ZR1 was distinguishable from the other coupes by is wider tail section with 11- inch wide wheels tucked up under the fenders. The back-end look was also different with a convex facia and square taillights. By 1991, those styling cues were incorporated into the base models too, making them all look the same. This one is coated in its original Dark Red Metallic paint and it looks good. The smooth styling of the hood slopes down toward the ground over the hideaway headlights, and a chin spoiler reaches further to the ground to keep air out from under the car at speed. There is a tinted glass Targa roof and a glass rear hatch that allows easy access to the storage behind the seats. A ZR1 badge appears discreetly on the rear bumper and quad exhaust tips peek out from underneath it. Open the door and you will find a beautiful Saddle interior that is a perfect complement to the Dark Red paint. The door panel has a long armrest for comfortable cruising and power switches for the windows, door locks and mirrors at your fingertips. You can settle into the comfortable and supportive leather seat that is both power operated and heated, and reach out for the leather wrapped steering wheel mounted on a tilt column. The shifter for the 6-speed manual transmission is just a flick of the wrist to the right and begs to be stirred around. The dash board has a digital display in the center with a sweep tachometer on the left and sweep gauges on the right for both oil pressure and oil temperature as well as water temp and voltage. The ventilation system includes air conditioning to keep you cool on those hot summer days and there is an AM/FM/CD and cassette player for your listening pleasure. Under the hood is the very special motor that makes this car unique. It is an exotic, yet reliable piece of machinery that fills up the engine bay with four overhead camshafts and 32 valves to pump out 375 horsepower. Lotus Engineering developed the heads as well as a unique air management system that varied the intake and fuel injection systems to provide for a very wide power band. The power it makes flows back through a 6-speed transmission to the rear wheels and then to the ground through those 315/35ZR17 inch tires. The suspension that keeps them planted on the ground was specially tuned by Lotus also to ensure that this Corvette could hold its own against any sports car in the world. The front suspension benefited by the first use of a carbon fiber transverse leaf spring instead of coils which reduced weight and improved the handling capabilities significantly. A unique and potent chapter in Corvette history. Body work unique to the 1990 models before filtering down to all models in 91. And piles of documentation, maintenance records, and an owners manual that you should be sure to ask your salesperson about.
This 1990 ZR1 with only 127 miles on it is presented in Bright red with black interior. This time capsule ZR1 is in wonderful condition and some say that In the history of the automobile, few cars were anticipated as much as the Corvette ZR1. The rumors had been circulating for almost three years before one was available for purchase in the early 90s. The hype was not Chevrolets doing - car enthusiasts were eager for any and all scraps of information and the magazines did what they could. The ZR1 ID on the option list was a tribute to the special ZR1 high performance package available for 1970-72 Corvettes which was shorthand for Zora Racers. This was a serious racing package costing approximately $1,000 and featured the much admired LT1 engine. King of the Hill was an internal and supposedly unofficial working title around GM for the ZR1 project. This is lowest mileage ZR1 that we know of and will only continue to go up in Value! Here is what we know about the 1990 ZR1.The C4 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 was first produced in 1990 and ended in 1995 after 6,939 vehicles came off the line. General Motors approached Lotus in 1986, which was part of GM then, and asked for their help developing a high-performance car to be based on the C4 Vette. Lotus then designed an engine, with the assistance of GM Corvette team to replace the original push-rod L98 V-8, which was the motor that powered the C4 Chevy Corvette. The motor the designers created was an aluminum-block V-8 that had the identical bore centers as the L98 but had 32 valves and four overhead cams. Lotus also engineered an exclusive air-management system that allowed the engine to shut off eight of the 16 fuel injectors and intake runners when the motor was at part throttle. At full-throttle the ZR1 developed 375 hp. Having nowhere to produce the new engine, GM farmed out the project to Mercury Marine a marine engine manufacturer located in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The Lotus company also had a hand in developing the ZR

Gateway Classic Cars is proud to present this low mileage 1990 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1. It all started in 1984 as General Motors vice president Lloyd Reuss, set out to develop the most agile and strong domestic car that Detroit had ever seen. Enter the ZR-1. The ZR-1 Corvettes were marketed as the King of the Hill, which they deservingly were, with a Lotus designed, Mercury Marine manufactured, 5.7-liter all aluminum 32 valve-DOHC LT5 V-8 hiding under the hood. At that time, to develop an American multi-stage valve engine was quite the task, but as the numbers report, GM hit the jackpot. Producing a lofty 375 horsepower, 370 ft-lbs torque, compression ratio of 11.0: 1, this C4 was playing with the likes of Italian made exotics. This car did exactly what GM executives wanted, to be able to run with the best Italian sports cars of the time, and prove to the world that America can compete with the best. Taking the HP to the rear wheels is a unique and beefy, ZF-designed (code-named ML9) six-speed manual transmission, which uses CAGS (Computer Aided Gear Se lection) that automatically short-shifts from first to fourth under light throttle. Made famous by the Porsche 959, the ZR-1 is equipped with FX3 selective ride and handling controls, allowing its user to switch between three varying options that range from Touring to Performance. All of which are delivered via the heavy-duty Z51 independent short/long arm five-link suspension system. At the rear, you ll find asphalt shredding 11 inch treads attached to 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, thus making this ZR-1s rear exclusively 3 inches wider and an authority in the high-speed hair-pin turns. Options on this 1990 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 for sale include: Air Conditioning, AM/FM Radio with CD Player, Glass and Hard Targa Tops, Seat Belts, Cruise Control, Lumbar Support, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Power Locks, Power Windows, Power Seats, Anti-Lock Brakes, Tilt/Telescopic Steering Wheel, Traction Control, Ride Control, Driver and Passenger Air Bags, Anti-Theft System, Leather Interior, Rear Window Defogger, Performance Radial Tires, and Aluminum/Alloy Wheels. This Zr-1 also comes with a clean Autocheck report, window sticker, build sheet, and a car cover. With only 4,186 actual miles on the odometer of this 1990 ZR-1, you will be hard pressed to find a cleaner one out there. For sale at Gateway Classic Cars in our St. Louis showroom is The King of the Hill as it was called when released in 1990, the Corvette ZR-1. The first ZR1 was actually in 1970 and ran until 1972. In 1990, it made a return and in a big way. Powered by a 375 horsepower LT-5. A dual overhead cam four valve per cylinder V8 engine designed by Lotus and assembled by Mercury Marine. This was a first for the Corvette as opposed to the pushrod V8 that is still being used in todays Corvettes. Sitting behind the engine is a 6 speed manual transmission allowing you to achieve up to 25 miles per gallon, a top speed of 180 mph and a 0-60 time in 4.3! It also featured a rear end that was widened by 3 inches to house the extra wide 315/35ZR17 rear tires. The car also featured square tail lights that wouldn t make their way onto the standard Corvette for another year. In 1990 Corvette decided to take a stab at a 50 year old 24 hour speed record. John Heinricy pitched the idea to Corvette chief engineer Dave McLellan. A 7.71-mile oval, Bridgestone Tire Proving Ground at Fort Stockton, Texas was chosen by Morrison because of its gentle 7-degree banking. The Corvette beat the record and still holds the record today. 175 mph average speed for 24 hours! Afterwards, just for grins, they decided to try two hot laps at full-throttle 15-miles at 190-plus mph, after running for 5000 miles! Truly incredible! Source: http://www.corvettereport.com/morrison-1990-zr-1-speed-record-aver-24-hour-174-885-mph/ This well maintained 2 owner example is a 90 model and was ordered in a classy color combination of Black over Black. Equipped with loads of options including Anti-Lock Brakes, Electronic Ride Control, Anti-Theft system and the usual Power windows, Power leather seats, Power locks and A/C. There s also a Valet key where you can turn down the power for the valet driver or your kid for Homecoming weekend. All vehicle trades considered, including classics and performance. I can assist with financing and transport as needed. The 1990 ZR1 Corvette set the world on fire. This was truly the “King Of The Hill” when introduced, and at twice the cost of a base Corvette, nothing like it had been seen previously. But aside from a monster list price ($60k in 1990), this car brought some serious performance to the C4 model, including an incredible 24-hour endurance run averaging over 175 mph. Impressive indeed, even today. This red/red example is in great condition throughout with only 25,000 miles since new. The window sticker shows a list price of $60,360 - almost $120k in today’s dollars. Standard 1990 ZR1 design cues include wider bodywork, squared off taillights, 11” rear wheels, and ZR1 badging. This Corvette has an accident-free Autocheck report and is all original except for a set of Magnaflow mufflers and brand new tires (275/40ZR17 front, 315/35R17 rear). The highlight of the ZR1 is the remarkable LT5 alloy motor. Designed in collaboration with Lotus and hand built by Mercury Marine, it is rated at 375 hp (a 50% increase over the base 1990 Corvette). The DOHC design with four valves per cylinder represented Corvette firsts. Its outstanding performance has been well documented, as has its longevity. This example’s drivetrain is free of any issues, including the 6-speed ZF transmission and 3.45:1 rear end. The interior is done in red leather – what better color with a red exterior? All the standard ZR1 features are present including dual power seats, Delco Bose Gold Series stereo, and selective ride control. Of course, there is also the valet key to switch engine power between “Normal” and “Full”. This car is also equipped with the optional electronic air conditioning. Everything works properly throughout the car. This is not only an outstanding and desirable Corvette, but it has many of the attributes for good investment potential; low miles, clean history, and all the performance benchmarks established by the ZR1. This one also includes the original ZR1 leather pouch and manuals. It all adds up to a great package for any potential ZR1 buyer.
Sure, its a great looking ride - that attribute comes part and parcel with the model - but this 1990 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1 also holds the distinction of being part of a class that righted the ship as far as the Corvettes reputation as a true performance car, boasting a classmate who set a new standard for enduring speed over a 24-hour period. Lightly used over its lifetime, it offers the promise of miles and miles of driving excitement and will arrive complete with a clean AutoCheck report in tow to confirm its avoided any notable accidents during its lifetime. This is one very appealing pre-millennial classic, with a sleek, aerodynamic form that includes a sharply angled front windshield that leads to its removable hard top before reaching a gracefully descending rear windshield that conjures up images of its mid-60s counterparts, but with a decidedly more modern take. More than 25 years after this Vette drew its first admiring glance, its bright red paint, accented by a single broad black stripe running down its middle, still puts on a very strong showing, with a nice shine and impressively even shade from front to back. With their oversized, road-gripping rear tires, ZR-1s featured a wider rear track than their more commonly-seen counterparts - you can see the outward rear taper of the doors as they transition into the rear fenders that lead to a special rear fascia with distinctive, semi-rectangular taillights that also set it apart from the Corvette norm. Just below that you can see the signature quad-tip exhaust peeking out just the right amount. Theres one very impressive interior waiting inside. Chevy always had a penchant for equipping its Corvettes with functional yet stylish bucket seats, and the red leather examples on display here are particularly impressive, with their unblemished surfaces and lots of bolstering for support during inspired cornering. Theyre bracketed by door panels that are unusually clean and sit flush, while underneath, an expanse of matching red carpeting also looks especially good. The black dash area provides some nice contrast while also looking sharp - its red-illuminated gauges are very easy to read and a straight dash pad sits over the top. The air conditioning is running strong and cold and is very much up to the task of keeping you and your passengers comfortable on even the hottest of days. The 350 cubic inch fuel-injected LT5 V8 under the hood is a strong powerplant thats good for a full 375 horsepower, more than enough to propel this Vette with plenty of enthusiasm and just one of the highlights that make it a lot of fun to drive. Its only logged about 45,000 miles - only about 4 years worth of driving, by most standards - so its ready to provide plenty more driving excitement. It pairs with a 6-speed manual transmission to provide the hands on driving experience a performance-centric ride like this one demands. The cars road-hugging, low and wide stance combines with smooth power steering to make it a winner as far as handling is concerned, while power disc brakes at all four corners provide rapid, fade resistant stops as it heats up the asphalt on its 17 Corvette ZR-1 wheels outfitted with Nitto NT555 tires. A look below will reveal that the years have been very kind to this Chevy - its undercarriage appears very straight and carries an unusually light amount of patina for a car more than 25 years old. Looking sharp and running strong, this 1990 Corvette ZR-1 is definitely one to check out. Call today!
