1988 Mazda RX-7 Convertible The Wankel engine is a type of internal combustion engine using an eccentric rotary design to convert pressure into rotating motion. All parts rotate consistently in one direction, as opposed to the common reciprocating piston engine, which has pistons violently changing direction. In contrast to the more common reciprocating pistons designs, the Wankel engine delivers advantages of simplicity, smoothness, compactness, high revolutions per minute, and a high power-to-weight ratio. This Mazda self-described heavy influence from the Porsche 944 for the body design car, only released 5,000 Cabriolet units to the USA. Seen here is Guards Red with gray leather interior, and excellent condition rear glass window convertible top, and a mere consigner stated 2,500 miles a year since birth. Exterior Nicely preserved Guards Red, straight gapped steel panels with matching crash bumpers, mirrors and badging (look ma no chrome!), are broken up by a black dent guard belt line running the circumference of the car. Top presents in very nice condition and gives the driver the option of a hardtop/soft top/targa/convertible. Seen is a glass back window in pristine condition with a rear defroster. Factory BBS Wheels with center locking hub appear factory! Very nice overall presentation for the total exterior. The exterior shows some signs of hail damage as shown in the pictures. Interior Gray leather with horizontal stitched tufting in the center with plain piped bolsters, and speaker inserted headrests wrap the Recaro buckets. These seats offer a sporty grab you but are very comfortable. Cracking of the seat leather is evident especially on the drivers seat. Door panels use the leather as well and show pioneer speakers for that added sound on the sides. A pioneer sound system sits in the center console and gives you the option to play cassettes, CDs, or an AM/FM radio. Enough buttons to keep a 747 pilot occupied. Light gray carpeting covers the floor and accents the door panels. Power windows, power top, and cruise control can be seen installed and working. Drivetrain The Wankel Rotary 13B (a mere 13ci!) produces 146HP which translates to 100MPH @ 3400RPM. Consigner states there is no real redline, but youll get a notice when you should shift at 7000RPM. Bolted to the rear of the mill is a 5-speed manual transmission. Seen on the good condition underside is 4-wheel steering, which makes cornering just a bit easier. Overall very nice condition RX-7, mechanically sound, cared for, and when you compare it to a 944, less than half the price. One might say more bang for your buck.
I have recently moved to Chicago, I dont really want to sell the car but with all the costs of moving etc Ive decided to let her go. The car has been fully repainted and I have the side strips and 10AE badges, the engine is rebuilt and almost everything has been replaced all over the car, I did so not foreseeing a move across the country at the time. The only current issues are some hesitation at the usual 3800 or under full load (need some extra ground wires) the oil pressure gauge is temperamental as is the idiot cluster. Boost gauge isnt working (needs a new needle). The seats arent perfect but the rest of the interior is in good condition. The body is as clean as you will find, no rust anywhere!!!Clean title in my name, smogged for 18 months and CA tags until April 2019.New starter with relay New fuel injectors replaced fuel lines; vacuum lines; throttle position sensor;omp injectors/lines; engine beltsReplaced fuel filter Replace transmission saddle & mounts Replaced brake master; front/rear brake pads/rotors Stoptech Slotted Front & Rear Rotors ; bleed brakefluidReplaced water pumpRebuilt oil metering pump New KYB AGX Adjustable shock & Tanabe Sustec GF210 SpringsReplaced all bushed with Energy poly aftermarket versionsWorks bell rapifix snapp off kit with Nardi wheelNew rebuilt engine harnessported wastegate with new actuatorGoodyear wheel alignmentJust had all fluids changed, brake, coolant flush, ac recharge and oil. 1988 Mazda RX7 convertible. This thirty year old car has only three owners, I am the third. It was the last owner's "baby". He owned it for 28 years and kept it garaged. I've had it since November 2016. It was sold to me because the prior owner passed away. This is NOT a project car. It is in good mechanical and physical condition, fully operational with good brakes and tires, it has current plates on it and it is insured. 131,300 miles. Odometer will keep going up --- I drive this car, but not on a daily basis. This car has not been restored . . . . what you see in the photos is the original paint, and it is nice and red and shiny. The entire car is solid, no rust. Red with gray interior. Five speed manual transmission. Prior owner intended to make a cross country trip in this vehicle (he passed away before he made it) and put around $4500 into engine rebuild, clutch replacement, all new belts and hoses, etc., and other work to get the car ready for the voyage. That was done at around 129000 miles. I have the receipt for the work. Original interior in place and in good condition. Convertible top is original equipment and in fair to good condition. Spare tire, original floor mats, original owner's manual, boot cover and other accessories are present and all in good condition except for driver's side floor mat, which shows lots of wear. Original Pioneer Car Audio sound system present and in working condition. Tires are good. Pop up headlights are fully functional. Minor damage to driver's side door . . . the prior owner at the beginning of his illness was trying to back his daily driver out of the garage and accidentally rubbed the door of the Mazda while doing so. If you are in the market for a vintage car that is in good, safe driveable condition from Day 1, will not require much cash investment, and is enjoyable to drive, here she is! Title is clean and clear. This is a truly lovely little car and it is fun to drive. Cash only. I do not ship nor do I deliver. I do not finance. Before I will allow you to drive away with this car, I must be paid IN FULL.
