This 1980 Camaro Z28 is proof that the muscle car didnt die, it just went on an extended vacation during the mid-70s. With a great-running 350 cubic inch V8, a load of options, and those high-visibility Z/28 graphics, you wont be sneaking around in this one, but then again, why would you want to? The sleek metallic silver paint with tri-tone blue Z/28 stripes give this Camaro a look that captures the era perfectly without looking dated. The car was repainted in 2009 and is nicely preserved, not too perfect but not abused, and the one word that comes to mind is authentic. Either way, it looks right for the period and this Camaro draws a lot of appreciative glances out on the street. The aggressive chin spoiler shows no cracks from run-ins with parking curbs, the lower rockers havent been abused by flying debris, and the stripe package remains bright and vivid against the paint, which has just enough metallic in it to glow but without looking like a bass boat. Judging by the condition of the grille, and the clarity of the taillights, Id wager that this car has spent a good amount of its life protected and indoors, used only as a fair-weather toy. And, as a southern car, you know its not a rust bucket. Sure, there are some signs of use, but this is a nice-looking car that captures what performance looked like at the dawn of the 1980s. The very cool gray buckets will look familiar to any F-body fan, and they are every bit as comfortable as they look. Like the bodywork, the interior is remarkably well presented, with the seat covers, carpets, and door panels being recent additions. The monochromatic look works rather well with the silver bodywork, again a little bit of 70s style without making it feel dated. This Z also includes things like factory A/C, a tilt steering column, a center console, and an optional tachometer (yes, optional, even on the Z/28!). Modifications are limited to a set of aftermarket gauges in the original gauge slots plus a modern AM/FM/CD stereo. If you look closely, sure, you can find a few other spots that are showing their age, but for this price, theres a lot of fun to be had and you can polish up those details over time. Both the 350 cubic inch V8 and the TH350 3-speed automatic transmission were rebuilt in 2009 when the rest of the car was restored. A few upgrades include a Summit Racing intake manifold and 4-barrel carburetor, as well as a set of long-tube headers, so its considerably more powerful than the original 190 horsepower. Finned valve covers are a traditional Z/28 look, although these, along with the air cleaner, are from Edelbrock. Color-matched blue trim, a big chrome radiator shroud, and a big aluminum radiator help with the well-loved vibe under the hood. Underneath, its clean and solid, with a fresh rebuild on the front end so it tracks like a cruise missile today. A new dual exhaust system sounds amazing, so even if it isnt exactly an LS6, it certainly roars like one, and subframe connectors reinforce the body tub. The original alloy wheels show virtually zero curb rash and wear 215/70/15 BFGoodrich T/A radials all around. With $18,000 worth of receipts, this is a quality second-generation Z/28 that has lots of upgrades that make it fun to drive today without removing its 1970s soul. Call today!
Looking bad to the bone in its shiny black paint, this Z28 backs up that look with a combination of performance enhancements designed into the car by the factory, as well as some nice additional engine upgrades for a bit of extra power. This is one good looking car for someone serious about driving. Check it out. Long and low describe the overall look of these second-generation Camaros. This 80 model is among the last of them produced before a redesign, and as a Z28, it incorporates all the refinements that were developed along the way that helped it earn its justified reputation as a drivers car. Features like a functional Air Induction hood that feeds cold air to the engine, side vents in the front fenders to let hot air out, and aerodynamic elements like a deep chin spoiler and full width rear spoiler to add stability at speed. The black grill that splits above and below the bumper looks extra sweet on this black car and has a Z28 badge set off on one side of it. Gray triple stripes start up front on that chin spoiler curving up as they wrap around to the front fender and continue low on the car down the side, ending in another Z28 on the door. Open the door and you will find a neat and clean black interior that has obviously been well cared for. The door panel itself accentuates the long low look of the car with long simple lines accented by a chrome strip across the top and a comfortable armrest. Have a seat in the high-backed buckets that have pleated centers and side bolster supports that are nice for spirited driving. Then reach out for the 4-spoke Z28 steering wheel which is adjustable by both tilting and telescoping so you can get it set just right for maintaining control as you stir around that white short throw shifter for the 4-speed manual transmission. Factory gauges are supplemented with Autometer gauges for oil pressure and water temp and there is a JVC head unit that is an AM/FM/CD player and is iPod compatible. Nice clean carpets tie the look together well and are protected by Z28 floor mats in the front. Pop the hood and you will find a nicely warmed-over engine nestled down in a neat and clean engine bay. There is a polished air topper that feeds fresh air from that hood scoop to a Holley 4-barrel carburetor and an Edelbrock intake manifold with Aeroquip lines getting the fuel to the carb. Chrome Moroso valve covers look great and MSD ignition assures good spark while long tube headers get the spent gasses out and sound good while doing it. Power is sent back to the 4-speed manual transmission controlled by that short throw shifter and then to the 10-bolt rear end which gets the power to the ground through 275/60R15 tires mounted on black 5-spoke wheels. 255/60R15s handle the duties up front with sway bars both front and rear keep the car cornering flat. This car is set up right and fun to drive. Come on down and check it out.
Why This Car Is Special This cool Camaro has a built small block, great looks and a sound any muscle car fan will appreciate. Mechanical The 350 CID V8 engine has been bored .030 over to 355 cubic inches. It was then topped with an Edelbrock Performer EPS intake and 4-barrel carburetor with a carburetor spacer and Spectre air filter. The exhaust is handled by full-length coated headers running to dual exhaust with an X-pipe and Flowmaster mufflers running to chrome tips. An HEI system provides the spark and dual electric fans keep everything nice and cool. Chrome accents under the hood include: air cleaner, valve covers, thermostat housing, pullies, alternator, fender braces, radiator cover and radiator overflow. The engine bolts to a Saginaw 4-speed manual with routes the power through a 10-bolt rear end with traction bars. Power steering and power front disc brakes make this car handle and stop better than you might expect from a nearly 40-year old vehicle. Interior The interior is a mixture of stock and custom with an aluminum gauge bezel housing AutoMeter gauges, racing bucket seats and an AM/FM/CD player. The door panels and rear seat are stock black vinyl and match the newer front seats nicely. The trunk is clean and simple with a correct trunk mat. Exterior The exterior is where this car really stands out from the crowd. The steel cowl hood give it a killer muscle car look that is carried on to the rear spoiler. The Silver Metallic paint fits this body style very well and looks great matched with Rev chrome wheels. The big chrome exhaust tips let onlookers know this isnt a stock 180 horsepower 1980 Camaro. This Chevy has the horsepower to back up the good looks. Conclusion These late 70s and early 80s Camaro are becoming highly collectible and this one is in great shape. For sale in our Chicago showroom is a fantastic example of a near stock 1980 Z28 Camaro in excellent condition inside and out. Equipped with the 350 5.7L V8 engine matched to a 4 speed Manual transmission, makes for a rare and hard to find model Z28 Camaro. This is a low mileage car with only 64K on the speedo. A few neat things about the 1980 Camaro. The Z28 hood included a rear-pointing raised scoop (air induction) with a solenoid operated flap which opens at full throttle, allowing the engine to breath better resulting in better engine perfomance. Also a federally mandated 85 mph speedometer also debuted this year, pretty funny considering the vehicles actual performance ability. It was equipped with a unique upper and lower front grill and smaller revised graphics on its doors. The side scoops were also changed from a louvered design to a flatter one with a single opening. The 350 cu in (5.7 L) V8 was only available on the Z28 this year. This aggressive but vintage interior is still in great condition. Have a seat behind the wheel turn on the cold A/C, and strap yourself into the Rallye inspired high back split bucket seating. The 4 speed manual transmission makes this an extremely fun car to drive, and allows for some serious interaction between car and driver. It will definetly make you appreciate the stick shift as you run through the gears and hear the great sound of the exhasut and the smell of burning rubber! It has vortex heads and a 700r4 trans, B&M pistol grip shifter, four point seat belts and racing seats and a new $1k Holley 750 carburetor. A few gauges need to be installed on the car and it could use a little love on the interior if you want to show it off. It isnt perfect by any means, but its very solid with nearly no rust.
