This handsome 1979 Datsun 280ZX 2+2 represents the last of the Z-cars that changed the automotive landscape in the 1970s. As some newer models prove, cars like this will always have a place in our garages and in our hearts, and this Z is a fantastic way to enjoy the ride. Looking at the shape, its clear that theres a bit of E-Type Jag in there, maybe a hint of Corvette, and perhaps some MG, too. Fast, light, agile, and affordable, even today, this Z is a delight. Its also nicer than most, with an older repaint in the original silver metallic, which still looks contemporary and will never seem dated. Its also been fitted with a deeper chin spoiler that accentuates the long, lean, low look of the Z without taking away from the clean overall look. Cars like this were often put away as sunny-day drivers, and as a result, this one shows none of the bumps and bruises of the daily grind. Chrome was still in fashion, so there are plenty of bright pieces, including the stainless around the windows and along the B-pillar, all of which remains in good shape. Even things like the rubber bumpers are in decent shape with only light fading, suggesting that this car has led a sheltered existence. One of the Z-cars biggest successes is the interior, which is both sporting and functional. The bucket seats were designed by guys who knew the car would be used to its potential, so they have thicker bolsters than most cars of the period, and grippy cloth inserts instead of vinyl help hold you in place. Of course, all of this remains in original condition, showing only very minor wear aside from some light wear on the drivers seat and some aging to the plastic, most notably the steering wheel and console, but its not particularly noticeable. The dash is full of easy-to-read instruments, including a row of auxiliary gauges in the center, a look that is still evident today in the Nissan GT-R. This particular 280ZX is also luxurious, featuring factory A/C (needs to be serviced), power steering and brakes, and an AM/FM/CD stereo, all of which are fully functional. The rear seats (which fold down) are in excellent shape and the trunk offers a surprising amount of room for gear or travel. The L28E 2.8 liter inline-six is a fantastic motor. Torquey, yet eager to rev, it was enlarged to better suit American driving tastes that demanded low-end torque. It still has that same baritone wail that epitomizes big-horsepower inline-sixes, and because its a Nissan, its reliable and smooth. The engine bay is pretty tidy and retains almost all its original equipment, and that tangle of hoses is how the factory did it, but dont worry, it has all been regularly serviced and is in excellent running condition. A recent set of plug wires ensure that it fires easily and idles smoothly, so dont be afraid to rev it. Its quite clean underneath thanks to a lifetime in a warm climate, and it doesnt look like theres much deviation from stock, as it even wears its original catalytic converter. The 5-speed manual transmission is a pleasure to run through the gears and stylish alloy wheels wear 195/70/14 Goodyear blackwall radials for a proper sports car look. Today, as when it was new, this 280Z is a lot of performance for not a lot of money. Call today!
Theres this great sweet spot where your vintage car also offers value and dependability. This one-owner 1979 Datsun 280ZX 2+2 hits that quality mark. We first bought these coupes decades ago because they were everyday reliable sports cars, but along the way, we fell in love because they were so surprisingly fun to drive. This highly original and five-speed example might be your last chance to get all those great feelings while still at a value price. There is just something elegantly great about the lines of this Z-car. It has the long hood and short deck of the Corvette and the E-Type, but with its own distinctively aggressive sharp-edge style. The Silver Mist metallic paint is the factory-correct color. It benefits from a recent professional respray to really showcase the angular lines of this super-straight body. This color also looks terrific against some of the darker elements like the black bumpers and the hood vents. And those white factory alloys are a true standout piece that add even more character. So the total impression is vintage, distinct, and crisp all rolled into one sporty package. Open the door, and theres more evidence of this its only owner cherished this one. The high-backed black vinyl bucket seats look quite good for a classic thats approaching its 40th birthday. Behind that are the handy rear seats on this extended wheelbase model, and they look like theyve spent most of their lives folded down for better cargo room instead of steady use. Getting behind the wheel feels great thanks to features like the center console and factory sports steering wheel. Its all part of an interior package where the Japanese studied the worlds best sports cars, and then enhanced it with user-friendly design. As a result, the cockpit talks directly to the driver with a large speedo and tach directly in front of you. Auxiliary gauges are placed on a trio of dials set high on the specially contoured dash. Its a look that became so iconic that it was used for the modern Z as part of its retro-style. And while this is a great time capsule right down to the factory AM/FM radio there has been one key upgrade. The air conditioning has been converted to modern R-134a, so you can really enjoy this one all year round. Under the hood is the original 2.8-liter inline-six motor. It provides silky smooth torque and an exhaust note that is definitely reminiscent of the great sports cars from Europe. Thanks to fuel injection, it starts easily and accelerates smoothly like a modern classic should. It also helps that this has been under the care of a Z-car specialist. But what will really seal the deal for you on this one is its five-speed manual transmission a rarity that makes this Z a true drivers car. And theres even a new clutch! This coupe is the perfect balance of a sporty and comfort thanks to the fully independent suspension, sway bars front & rear, power steering, and four-wheel disc brakes. This is a one-owner car, and so it comes with great paperwork. It includes the owners manual, title documentation, and the original warranty card (that also proves this has the original motor.) This kind of opportunity rarely comes around for such an affordable price, so dont miss out. Call today!!!

I purchased this 1979 280ZX about a year ago from that man who had owned, driven and loved it since he purchased in Texas in the fall of 1979. It now has approximately 149,XXX miles on the clock and it runs and drives perfectly. Its a great car with a super nice body and everything works as it should. When I purchased it, the interior was looking tired but very normal for a car its age. My upholsterer did a really nice job reworking the interior parts including new leather seat covers with exterior colored matching stitching. He also made new custom door cards and recovered the large rear panel. A refurbished console was installed with a USB connection and custom arm rest. All new high quality plush carpet has been installed and a full dash cap was fitted. Now the entire interior is actually better looking than the day it rolled of the line. The car has one, very professional repaint that took place, two plus years ago and before I bought it. Unless you are accustomed to determining that a car has been repainted, you well never see any tell tale signs that would give it away. We have all heard of "ten foot" paint jobs but this is a "one foot" job. The paint work was expensive and is outstanding today. Im an old guy that loves Datsun Z cars and I have been a Datsun enthusiast since owning my first 73, 240 in 1980. Since then, I have never been without having at least one in my garage and have owned many first and second generation cars. This is my third 280ZX and by far the nicest one to date. These cars handle well but are more comfortable to live with their its predecessors. Most regard me as a person who loves Datsuns and probably knows more that many when it comes to Z cars and their mechanical issues. This car is really fun to drive and I have driven it a lot since purchasing it. I have gone through this ZX from head to toe and have replaced many parts in order to make it a trouble free ride that can be enjoyed without problems for years to come. When I removed the entire stock interior, down to the bare metal floor, I discovered a two inch by one inch area of rust at the foot pedal area and a similar size hole at the rear of the drivers seat. A leaking tail light gasket and subsequent water draining into the spare tire well had caused a few small pin holes in the bottom. Both tail lights received new gaskets and all three areas were cut back to new, perfect solid metal, new steel welded in place, panel sealed and the entire bare floor was painted with POR 15, rust preventative paint then covered with sound and heat deadening material. Also, the underside of the car was re-undercoated. The underside of the car is in excellent condition, however, I discovered that the passenger side frame rail had been smashed flat. My only explanation is that the car must been driven over and struck something in order for it to be damaged like that. We used a plasma cutter to remove the old rail before welding a new on in place, painting it with POR 15 and then undercoating it. Now the underside is ready for many more miles of trouble free driving. I completed a major under hood tune up including installing new NGK spark plugs, NGK ignition wires, NGK distributor cap & rotor, all belts, all hoses, adjusted the valves and timing, installed new hood release cable that was hard to pull. The cooling system was flushed and new antifreeze installed. The oil, oil and air filter were replaced along with new wiper blades. The five speed transmission and differential were drained and refilled with Synergyn, synthetic premium gear oil. The suspension components were checked and found to be in good shape and a leaking clutch slave cylinder was replaced. A number of repairs had been made by the previous owner within the twelve month period before I purchased it. The repairs included a new radiator, new water pump, new under dash heater unit, new ignition switch, four new shock absorbers, new front brake pads and rotors turned, new rear calipers, rot

Feast your eyes on a very rare, two-owner Datsun 280ZX with ~16,444 original miles! The 280ZX was Motor Trend's import car of the year for 1979. Nearly everything on this car is original - right down to the tires! I bought this beauty in the summer of 2012 - shortly after my dad passed away. My dad was a classic car enthusiast and in addition to storing his own vehicles in his warehouse, he would occasionally store for friends. Ken, a family friend, bought this 280 ZX new at Jerry Harmon Motors in Williston, ND. He mainly drove it during the warm months and stored it away in the winter. He put about 12,000 miles on it, put it away one winter and never looked back. My dad kept it in a temperature controlled facility, covered and always ran it on a regular basis.I admired it growing up and when I heard Ken might want to sell it that summer, I jumped at the chance to snag it before one of my brothers got to it. :) Before I bought it, I made sure it checked out mechanically. I had it tuned up, replaced the battery and the fuel filter. Once I had the ok, I decided to drive it from Williston, ND to Nashville where I currently live. It was an epic trip filled with a few fuel filter changes, but we finally made it home. While the car was nearly mechanically perfect, I had a few cosmetic issues to take care of. For starters, the car had some pretty cool, dealer added wide 70s stripes on the sides (see pics). They were a bit frayed, so I brought the car to a trusted friend in Shelbyville, TN who restored classic cars. He and his team removed the stripes and intended to put a new set on. But once removed, they determined the paint was soft enough to buff and we left them off and brought it back to its original state. They also replaced the headliner, touched up the rear interior because it was greening a bit and replaced the rear hatch lift supports (I still have the originals). Most recently, I replaced the gas tank, which had rusted and caused some starting issues. Clark Crawford of Z Cars by Clark put an original, completely restored ZX tank on the car and original battery cables (which had been swapped out at some point by the original owner) and she runs like a top. Everything works - gauges, stereo, speakers, electric mirrors, electric antenna, electric windows, interior/exterior lights, turn signals. The only thing I've never tried is the Pioneer cassette deck. It powers up, but I didn't want to insert a tape and have it get stuck or eaten. One cool feature is a kill switch next to the stereo that cuts the sound. Likely a dealer add-on, but a neat one. The AC blows cold and the heat keeps you toasty warm. Like any car that is nearly 40 years old, she has a few minor blemishes. In addition to a couple small spots of rust, the main one is where the original owner spilled some battery acid on the front passenger-side fender. Rather than have it professionally repainted, he decided to touch it up. All the paint experts I showed it to said it's best to leave it alone and I agree. This is a unique shade of blue and is very difficult to match. While I've really enjoyed owning this car over the past six years, I'm ready to pass it on to someone who can make it part of their collection. I drive it/run it regularly, keep it covered in my garage, but always worry about putting extra miles on. I'm ready for something I can drive with my family when and where I want to. The pictures on the ad were taken a few months back. I've also included a pic from the day I left North Dakota and one of the original owner (thumb in pic!) so you can see the stripes that were put on by the dealer and subsequently taken off. They were on the hood as well. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have, share additional pictures, details, etc. I'm also happy to help coordinate transport anywhere you'd like it to go. Thanks for having a look!
