It may look like a 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, but this purpose-built machine was intended to conquer the drag strip. Packing a 584 cubic inch V8, a lightweight fiberglass body, and a combat-ready chassis, this Camaro talks the talk and walks the walk to the tune of low 8-second quarter mile times. And all for a price thats a fraction of the cost of construction. We love the way this car looks. Its a Camaro, no doubt about that, but its longer, leaner, and definitely meaner. Remarkably, they did start with a stock 1979 Camaro, although the only factory bit of sheetmetal that remains is the roof; the rest is fiberglass. It was treated to a coat of factory Medium Green metallic paint and a set of reproduction Z/28 decals which is a nice connection to the production line. On the other hand, the cowl induction hood with a big snorkel up top, the exhaust pipes sticking out of the front fenders, and the airbrushed headlights and grille say race car, pure and simple. Its in fantastic shape for a car that smashes into rocks and bugs at nearly 200 MPH and it shows only very minor nicks and chips on the nose. Other race-grade hardware include Lexan windows, a parachute and wheelie bars out back, and Dzus fasteners throughout. This is a great-looking machine thats also extremely functional at the track. Inside you can tell that no expense was spared on the build. Yes, its spartan, but finish quality is exceptional. Its built around a full competition roll cage that adds strength and safety to the chassis. A simple gauge includes an array of Auto Meter gauges, the steering wheel has buttons for the line lock, and the sheetmetal interior panels are beautifully finished. Just check out those door panels! Wiring, instrumentation, and other details are professional-grade. Theres even a little boot for the brake pedal! Nice, right? Other useful goodies include a fan to help keep the driver cool in the staging lanes, an air shifter for consistency, and a delay box to maximize efficiency. The former back seat area is all tire wells and roll cage and the trunk is now full of fuel cell, twin 16-volt batteries, and a big air compressor and tank for the shifter. The engine is an aluminum Shafiroff 584 cubic inch big block Chevy V8 that makes just over 1000 horsepower at 7000 RPM. Freshened in 2016, it features BMF 385 cylinder heads, a Comp Cams camshaft, Manley valves, Jessel cam drive, and an APD alcohol fuel system thats been properly drained while its not being raced. Its backed by a 2-speed PowerGlide automatic in a Dedenbear case and spins a custom built Ford 9-inch rear with a 4.30 gearset on a spool to help it hook up. Holding it all together is a trick Jerry Bickel chassis thats NHRA certified for 6-second runs though 2020, and it has been completely powdercoated in a gold hammertone that looks cool and will last practically forever. The way it sits, the car currently runs 5.20s in the 1/8-mile and 8.20s in the -mile. Weld wheels powdercoated satin black look awesome and carry skinny Hoosier front runners and gigantic Hoosier slicks out back. Look at the price again. This is a seriously well-built race car that is ready to rock, right now. You couldnt come close to building it for that price but youll be competitive the moment you pull it off the trailer. This is an extremely impressive package. Call today! SOLD ON BILL OF SALE ONLY
If you have never had the experience of driving a second-generation Camaro, you owe it to yourself to give one a spin. During design and development, they improved the car in many ways from the lessons learned from building and racing the first-generation cars. These cars are lower, wider, and have a well-deserved reputation as a drivers car. Check this one out. Hunkered down low and dressed up in Black and Gold, this Z/28 looks great! Its the culmination of refinements and success developed for the street, strip, and road courses. It leads with a body colored front bumper and a blacked-out grill with Z28 appearing just above it. Below it a deep chin spoiler reaches for the ground to keep air from getting underneath the car and keeps the front end planted at speed. Gold stripes wrap around to the front wheel wells and then down the rocker panel with Z28 in bold letters at the end. A hood scoop is outlined in gold and louvers in the front fenders add to the aggressive look of the car. The roofline flows smoothly down to a full width rear spoiler that keeps the back end planted at speed with Z28 and gold striping just below it and gold turbine wheels complete the look perfectly. Open the door and you will find a Black interior with a door panel that echoes the long lean lines of the car with a chrome strip across the top. A 4-spoke Z28 steering wheel with a unique wound treatment provides good grip for spirited driving and is mounted on a tilt column. It sits in front of a stock dashboard with the tach on the right and speedo on the left with engine gauges to either side and ventilation controls low on the left side. An AM/FM and iPod compatible Retrosound head unit with speakers in the rear shelf has been added for your listening pleasure. Have a seat in the high-backed bucket seat with a comfortable cloth seating surface and with nice side bolsters that is trimmed in black vinyl and let your hand fall to the white shift knob for the manual transmission that is begging to be stirred around. As a Z28, this is a drivers car, so the engine and chassis were upgraded in order to live up to its billing. Nestled down in a neat and clean engine bay is the engine is the original, numbers matching 350 cubic inch motor with a Quadra-jet four-barrel carburetor. The air filter housing as well as the Moroso valve covers and master cylinder cover are painted gold to match the stripes on the car. Long tube headers wind their way out the bottom on the way back to dual Flowmaster mufflers which give the car a nice healthy sound. The chassis engineers did a nice job by upgrading the springs and shocks both front and rear and by adding a beefy front sway bar with matching rear bar to flatten out the handling. 11-inch vented front disc brakes assure good stopping power and the car sits on those sweet looking gold turbine wheels with 245/60R15 tires all around. Come on down and treat yourself to a drive in this Z28. You might want to treat yourself to that kind of drive more often and decide to keep this one in your garage.
These second-generation Camaros are great driving cars. They have a wide track and low center of gravity that makes them hug the curves and accelerate out of corners with the push of V8 power. But they are also comfortable with things like air conditioning and nice sound systems that make road tripping in them enjoyable. This one remains completely stock and has been well cared for, so come on down and check out how nice this car really is. Its hard to believe that this car is 30 years old! The styling still looks good with an aggressive stance and smooth, clean, lines. The paint, which is the original color of Silver still looks great today, so you know this car was somebodys pride and joy for all those years. Up front, the black grill is split by the molded bumper with a deep chin spoiler that wraps around the side pushing the air out beyond the wheels. Z28 appears on the nose with the headlights and markers set into blacked out fairings in the bodywork. There is an air induction scoop outlined in Orange striping on the hood and side vents on the fenders. A two-tone orange stripe runs along the rockers with Z28 in black and a serious rear spoiler keeps downforce on the back end at speed. Another set of orange stripes with Z28 lettering runs just below the spoiler with the taillights and a clean molded bumper below that. Open the door and you will find a very clean and well taken care of Black interior. The door panels have a comfortable armrest in a vertically molded center section with a smooth upper and lower. The high back bucket seats are super comfortable with pleated seating surfaces divided into sections and smooth side bolsters that provide great support for spirited driving. Between the seats there is a center console that has some nice storage with a lid that doubles as a nice armrest on long cruises and just in front of it is the shifter for the automatic transmission. There is a four-spoke steering wheel with a Z28 horn button mounted on a tilt column with a stock dash and gauges that includes a factory tach behind it. The ventilation controls which include air conditioning are low on the left side and there is an AM/FM/CD player for your listening pleasure. Pop the hood and you will find a tried and true 350 cubic inch V8 motor nestled down in the engine bay. It is completely stock with signs of good regular maintenance just as you would expect based on the condition of the rest of the car. The belts and hoses as well as the ignition items like plugs, wires, and distributor cap are all newer and the AC lines to the compressor have recently been replaced too. Power flows back through a 3-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels through a 10-bolt rear end mounted on leaf springs. The front end is a control arm setup with coil springs and the spring rates as well as sway bars both front and rear were matched by the factory to provide the kind of handling you expect from a Z28. Power front disc brakes insure that you can haul this car back down from speed if you let the horses run and the rubber meets the road through 225/70R15 Cooper Cobra tires mounted on 5-lug alloy wheels. This is a really great example of a second gen Z28. It was somebodys pride and joy and was well taken care of. Come on down and check it out. You might decide to become its next caretaker.
