Frame Off Restored FJ40 Land Cruiser 4WD 4.2 Liter 4 Speed Heat /// The beneficiary of comprehensive restoration, this awesome Land Cruiser wraps utilitarian aesthetics and proven 2F 6-cylinder power in a tough platform that makes it a perfect candidate for miles of parade and years of display! To ensure the exterior fit and finish of this FJ was show quality, all panels were taken to bare metal, massaged to perfection, and shot with a glossy coat of Mustard Yellow 2-stage. A little more manic than the grays, reds and greens Land Cruisers usually sport, this pigment absolutely sets off the trucks buff profile. Panel fitment is good, all gaps are even, and the doors and hood shut easily. It all adds up to one head-turning classic that consistently provides instant red carpet curb appeal! Pop the hood and youll find a reliable Toyota 2F 6-cylinder thats been carefully rebuilt and thoroughly dressed. Like its engine, the trucks rugged 4-speed and factory differentials were completely overhauled during the comprehensive restoration. Power-assisted drums ensure stops are brief and confidence-inspiring. The trucks chassis rides a restored, solid-axle suspension. And at the corners of the floor, gray steelies spin 31x10.50R15 Tornel A/T-09 Radials around quality AVM hubs and bright stainless center caps. Swivel this cool trucks lightweight doors and youll find a comfy leather interior that seems like a great place to survey the trail. Front and center, a duo of yellow-stitched buckets lead a duo of yellow-stitched benches. In front of those thrones, a silver-trimmed dash hangs a CD player between rebuilt telemetry, compact heat and controls for H4 headlights. Beneath that dash, fade-free vinyl frames a duo of correct shifters. And the driver tames the gravel through a larger, Toyota-branded steering wheel. Looking for a standout classic thatll provide years of great memories? Call, click or visit www.RKMotors.com and add this sweet Land Cruiser to your collection!
Take the tough-as-nails Land Cruiser reputation and add diesel power, and were surprised this 4x4 isnt forged out of granite! So you can look over all the details of this highly original 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser BJ40, but you already know this is a terrific vintage off-roader offered for a terrific price. This Land Cruiser does have some updates for flair like the metallic green paint, tinted windows, and newer alloys. But you can also instantly tell this is a true vintage machine. It retains the best classic elements, like the white roof, strong steel front bumper with tow hooks, windshield latches mounted on the hood, rear step bumper, wraparound back glass, and rear double doors with full-size spare mounted. And of course, the classic silhouette rivals Jeep and Land Rover for the first vehicle seen in the most remote parts of the world. So even if its just going on a grocery run, the extra shine and timeless toughness of this unique classic mean all eyes are on you. Inside is the mix of the right care and some cool upgrades. For example, the front seats have been traded for more modern buckets, so you get better all-day comfort. And these are covered in cloth, which is particularly nice since these Land Cruisers have a fully removable hardtop. So you can spent the day outside and not worry about a hot seat when hopping in. Behind these are the hallmark side-mounted jump seats we all love to see in these classic 4x4s. You get the correct grippy three-spoke steering wheel, and beyond that is the classic dash with the correct instruments and the four-wheel drive instruction bolted to the glovebox. This one also comes with provisions for nice features like air conditioning and an AM/FM/CD stereo. The B in the BJ40 designation means you get Toyotas 3.0-liter B-series diesel motor. Yes, thats right, this was born with the ultra-desirable and nearly indestructible power plant. This is even believed to be original to the vehicle, per the consignor. Not only does this have the right look of maintenance, but also the way the motor readily fires up tells you it has been treated with respect. 1978 is a later model from this generation, which means you also have the added control of a four-speed manual transmission (also believe to be original.) As you look at the undercarriage photos, you can spot the two-speed transfer case and both beefy axles looking good. So the extra torque of this diesel 4x4 is absolutely ready for off-road duty. Plus, with features like power steering, power brakes, and modern all-terrain tires, this one has great features for the street and trail. A diesel Land Cruiser offers true ability and true distinction. So at a price like this, you know you need to hurry if you want to take it home. Call now!

For sale in our Saint Louis showroom is an all original, surviving 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. BACKGROUND: Toyota started production of the Land Cruiser FJ40 in 1960 and began importing them to the US in 1963. The last US-bound FJ rolled off the line in 1983, making a brief comeback as a modern SUV in the US called the FJ Cruiser from 2006 to 2014. From 1963 to 1983 the FJ40 saw little change aesthetically, the only real changes were improvements in technology mechanically. The Classic FJs are as comfortable on a trail as they are on the highway because they were designed to do anything you could ever ask it to do and do it well. This FJ40 is a total survivor, sporting the original Mustard Yellow paint, vinyl interior, and original engine and transmission. This old school SUV is not perfect, it has character throughout, but it is a wonderful example of a California survivor. The 4.2-liter inline 6-cylinder engine has plenty of torque and is mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. These Toyota FJ s featured folding jump seats behind the passenger and driver seats. These folding seats not only made carrying another 2 passengers possible but also allowed for maximum cargo space, as opposed to the folding rear seat in the Jeep CJ series. The hard top on this FJ40 is removable like a Jeep, although it does require a bit more work. Once the top is off though, it is totally worth it, as is has an awesome topless appearance. The odometer reads 17,988, which has rolled over, and the original mileage is believed to be 117,988. Options for this 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 include: AM Radio, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Seat Belts, Vinyl Interior, Raised White Letter Radial Tires, Removeable Hard Top, and of course 4-wheel drive. The value of these classic FJ40 s has been known to be on the rise, with the extremely low mile survivor examples fetching six figures at the gavel. This is a great FJ40 to drive and enjoy as is or restore completely if so desired. Land Cruiser Details FJ40VIN FJ402906961978 FJ40 North American Model purchased in 1984 from original owner with 75K miles. Truck was mechanically sound. Came with factory hardtop, metal front and rear (ambulance style) doors and steel hardtop quarter panels, all glass windows, rear heater & Warn hubs and was never in an accident, highly original and only had some minor rust issues at time of purchase. The 1978 model year did not come with a catalytic converter. First thing I did to the truck was drain ALL lubricants and replace them with AMSOIL synthetic lubricants and DOT 5 brake fluid. Plus adjusted the valves, adjusted ignition timing, replaced air, oil and fuel filters, belts, hoses, spark plugs, ignition wires, distributor cap and rotor. Hey what’s a distributor? (Just kidding)I drove and maintained the truck on a regular basis for a few years. I can’t begin to tell you some of the amazing places I drove this LC because I’d probably get arrested. In the mid 80’s I also started driving/collecting some other vehicles….Mustang 5.0, Exotic Italian Sports Car, pick up truck, additional motorcycles etc. You probably get the picture here. As I started driving the other vehicles more it bothered me to see the LC just sit unused, and I could not just let this Land Cruiser sit there with those rust issues. The Cruiser was such a great driving, well built truck I could not let it go. So after a long hard time thinking, I decided it was time to man up and go for a full restoration. The drive train was in good mechanical condition. It was the body, primarily the rear quarters and floor areas which were perforated. But I just couldn’t disassemble the body and chassis without freshening up the drivetrain too. Yes I am a little OCD, fortunately I have learned to calm down a bit (parenthood I guess).LC underwent a thorough (documented) full body, chassis, and drivetrain restoration which took about 18 months. Restoration finished in fall of 1993 and re-assembled with a soft top and doors since the truck would now always be garaged. Drove the truck almost daily for 2 years so it would not be a trailer queen and I would get all the little bugs worked out. Truck now has 36,000 miles, and has been maintained & garaged with very little regular use for the last 23 years! My purpose during the restoration was to make any and all upgrades to the truck without compromising the authenticity of the beast. Drive train is basically stock (original engine) with upgrades. Body and chassis same concept: keep it stock looking but make it work better and last longer. I can discuss any and all details of the restoration.Sorry the pictures aren’t all pretty and flashy with new paint, Armor All and juicy undercoating. No picturesque background just pulled truck out of garage, went for a drive then took pics with all dust, dirt chips, scratches etc. Nothing was cleaned or touched up before these pics. Remember it’s a real truck not a trailer queen. No matter how long it sits connected to the battery tender as soon as the fuel pump fills the carburetor bowl I hit full choke and it fires right up! Even with ethanol fuel. Each time I fire it up I take it for at least a 20 mile drive. Last 2 pictures taken last year.Sure there a number of little cosmetic things which can be done, but most importantly the truck is sound, solid and runs great. Also still have all the hardtop cab pieces with all the steel doors etc.Too many toys, too many projects, too many priorities….Now it’s time for somebody else to use and enjoy this awesome truck which has been steadily increasing in value. One less thing for me to maintain. Truck is valued in the mid to high five figure price range. Thank you for your interest, Rob.
