In the 70s the Lincoln Mark series was the pinnacle of luxury. This was Ford Motor Companys way to compete with Cadillac and a very successful way at that. The Mark V screams 70s luxury, from its long straight body, to the hideaway head lamps, to the pillow top seating, or even the opera windows. The size, weight, and presence of the vehicle lets you know that someone important is behind the wheel. Although the car is something to admire, behind the wheel is the best place to be. The bench seat is as comfortable as your easy chair at home, the steering is light enough you could steer with one finger, and the ride is so soft it feels like youre floating down the road. This is a car made to cover long spans of roadway. Powering the car along is a 400 CID V8 backed by a silky smooth 3 speed automatic transmission. The original owner ordered this one with plenty of goodies including A/C, AM/FM, cruise control, hub caps, power brakes, power steering, power locks, power windows, power seats, tilt/telescopic wheel, seat belts, cloth interior, and white wall radial tires. These late 70s cruisers have a great following and may be the next high dollar classic. This one is ready for the collector, or simply to be driven and appreciated. Our newest arrival at the Gateway Classic Cars Chicago, IL showroom is not for the average auto collector. At GCC, we embrace the enthusiasts that hold a devotion to big, beautiful cars from off the beaten path. When selecting American luxury, many have placed their votes with GM s division of Cadillac, only to find themselves lost in a sea of trend followers. However, throughout the years, if you wanted to be taken seriously as a true individual with class, you rocked a Lincoln. Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Babe Ruth, Frank Lloyd Wright, and countless US Presidents would all agree with this opinionated declaration. Take a long gaze at this gorgeous 1978 Lincoln Mark V. With an impeccably clean interior and exterior, this is a shining example of everything previously mentioned; Command, luxury, and innovation. This year of the Mark V was the very last that offered the iconic 460 CID big block as an option. Like many other Mark V s, this one was custom-ordered by the original owner to include cruise control, power windows, power brakes, power steering, power mirrors, and even an 8-Track radio. It continued life with a second owner, and currently awaits a third under our roof here in Chicago. You can see this lovely Mark V in greater detail in our Chicago location or at www.GatewayClassicCars.com. Please contact 708-444-4488 or Chicago@gatewayclassiccars.com with inquiries. 1978 Lincoln Continental Town Coupe If it was the late 70s and you wanted a luxury automobile with all the bells and whistles then there is a good chance you would be cruising around town in a Lincoln Continental. These cars were a series of luxury vehicles packed with all the modern features available during the time period. They have stood the test of time and continue to marketed against the top of the line luxury cars of today like BMWs, Audis, Cadillacs and Mercedes Benz. When a car started being produced in 1939 and is still in production today you know they must being doing something right! This very cool 1978 Lincoln Continental Town Car is a nice classic that has been adult owned since new. It has been very well cared for and has 78,225 original miles. For the past few decades the car has been driven very little but does get started to keep everything running well. It is a 2 owner car that was purchased by the current owner in the mid 90s. It is always stored indoors. The body is in good shape with no major rust issues and coated in its original Chamois paint which pairs perfectly with the Burgundy vinyl top. These cars wore a lot of chrome/trim pieces all of which are nicely mounted in place with a nice shine. The front hideaway headlights still function properly and sit to each side of the original squared grill. The original wheels and hubcaps ride under all four corners and are wrapped with thin white wall tires. Powering the car is the original 460 V8 motor which has no problem getting this big car moving. It starts up well and drives well. It is paired with an automatic transmission that moves through the gears smoothly. All of the comforts you could ask for are in place like power steering, power brakes and AC so it is a very comfortable driver that just glides down the road. The interiors on these cars were very well done and built for comfort. In 78 Lincoln wanted to cut weight and refresh the look of the interiors so the steel frame dashboard was replaced with plastic. The interior on this car is done in a nice Burgundy and is in great shape. One look inside and you can tell interiors were an important feature on the Continental. The seats are plush with extra padding, the dashes featured woodgrain trim and everything was built with luxury in mind. All of the interior pieces on this car are original and how it would have come from the factory. The trunk of the car is nicely carpeted and houses the spare. If you are in the market for a cool vintage luxury classic that doesnt break the bank then look no further! This very well cared for Continental could be yours for $13,500.00! MUST SELL! BIG REDUCTION DOWN TO $9,500.00!
You wont find many rides that capture the styling sensibilities of their era as ably as this 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V does. A seriously cool ride sporting a great exterior color, its a veritable rolling homage to the flash and flamboyance of the late 70s. Some well-focused structural work was performed just a few years back to help strengthen it for the future and the magnetic curb appeal of this roomy cruiser is undeniable. Coming in at a full 230 inches - thats just short of 20 feet - the Mark V has the distinction of being the longest coupe ever to leave a Ford assembly line. Its an awesome sight to behold - its length makes an immediate impact on you, and you cant help but think that it must have been a bold declaration to the effect that, Gas prices are soaring and fuel will soon be scarce, but for now, you shall cruise in comfort! This attention magnet is clad in a tranquil blue shade thats an effective counterpoint to the flash of its exterior and is in pretty strong shape, as well. There are some great visual features on display here - its hard to get much cooler than an opera window and the one here is surrounded by vinyl that was replaced not long ago, so its looking its best. Step up to the front of the car and youll see a pair of well-aligned hidden headlights straddling a stately center grille and a high-standing hood ornament over a nice straight bumper. Journey to the back of the car by way of its lengthy front fenders and generously proportioned doors and youll be greeted with an awesome vinyl covered accent on the deck lid that matches the color of the roof above. This is one stylish vehicle. The blue cloth interior inside the doors is also a great visual representative of its time. Both the extra-wide front buckets and rear bench seat feature tuck and roll surfaces reminiscent of a well-padded sofa, with no tears to be found, though some upholstery cleaner will likely pay some dividends here. The dash area sports some nice-looking woodgrain accents and a pad across the top that shows no major issues, even after all these years, and an AM radio sits at the center with an 8-track player just underneath to provide a proper late 70s audio vibe. The air conditioning is blowing with plenty of conviction to fill the sizable cabin with cool air to keep you and your passengers comfortable. As youd expect from the proportions of the cabin, theres no shortage of legroom in back. Even with the full-sized spare tucked inside, theres also all kinds of room in the trunk. Underneath the considerable hood a sizable 460 cubic inch V8 sits in an engine bay whose own tape measure worthy dimensions leave the powerplant with plenty of room between the shock towers. Though everything inside remains in stock configuration, the components look surprisingly fresh - both the air cleaner and valve covers sport a vibrant blue and the hoses and wiring look to be in good shape. The outsized big block teams with a 3-speed automatic transmission to provide just the low-effort driving experience youd want in a lengthy cruiser like this. Power steering makes navigating this land yacht a breeze, while power disc brakes at all four corners provide it with dependable stops as it cruises on its set of 15 stock Lincoln rims, wrapped with American Classic whitewall radials with a fitting, era-appropriate look. This 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V represents the chance to own an iconic car that stood nobly by to provide luxury as an entire automotive era drew to a close. Call today!
