1974 Triumph TR6 The Triumph TR6 (1968 76) is a sports car built by British Triumph Motor Company between 1968 and 1976. It was the best-seller of the TR range when production ended, a record subsequently surpassed by the TR7. Of the 91,850 TR6s produced, 83,480 were exported; only 8,370 were sold in the UK. The bodywork was generally similar to the TR4/TR5, but the front and back ends were squared off, reportedly as a result of a consultancy contract involving Karmann. Born in Coventry England in October of 1974, a consigner stated ONLY 30,000 mile car! 2 owners have had it in their possession throughout its lifetime. It has been garaged during this time, and 15 years ago it was transformed to screaming yellow. Exterior Mostly straight rust-free steel panels with good gaps. Dripping in yellow, one almost needs to wear shades when viewing it inside or out. Bumpers are sans their federally mandated crash absorbers, and the car definitely benefits from the lack of them. Badging is correct, although the rear of the car is gloss black where typically it would be a matte black...we will call it creative license. The convertible top, tonneau, and boot, come with this car, and are seen in good condition, with the top being replaced 10 years ago. Also, the original hardtop is provided with this car, although is unrestored and a bit rough. The original hub caps and trim rings adorn all 4 corners and are covered with new non red line tires. Interior A wood dash with slight veneer damage stretches across the inside of the car and is topped by padded black vinyl. Essential instrumentation is seen in front of the original steering wheel, and are of course Smiths brand, which was a staple of 1970s Triumphs. Black vinyl buckets, and vinyl door panels make up the remainder of the cockpit, sit comfortably, and are in good condition. Black carpet covers the floor. Drivetrain An inline OHV 6-cylinder having 152ci is fed by 2 Stromberg single barrel downdraft carburetors. Electronic ignition, and a stainless steel heat shield to prevent vapor lock has been added. Undercarriage Frame and underside are very clean, and some surface rust is present. A stainless steel exhaust cannot be missed, as well as new brake lines, and stave cylinder. Front disc and rear drum brakes provide the stopping power. Front suspension is independent, coil springs, unequal-length A-arms, telescopic shock absorbers (plus anti-roll bar for TR6), and the rear consists of independent, coil springs, semi-trailing arms, lever-arm shock absorbers A test drive in this Triumph was a blast from the past as this writer owned this very same car. This TR6 runs smoothly, although had to be choked just a bit for smooth idle. The transmission shifted up and down smoothly, and the car started immediately with full choke. Always a snappy handling car, it brought back good memories. Some wind in your hair, and the throaty exhaust sound goes a long way to calm the soul.

Leyland Motors acquired Standard-Triumph in 1960, and soon began producing the lovely little British sports cars enthusiasts know and love today. Built between 1968 and 1976, the Triumph TR6 is truly an iconic British motor vehicle. These cars are loved by American enthusiasts for their low entry cost and, of course, the fun factor of a sporty British classic. Outfitted with the proper 2.5 liter six cylinder engine, this 1974 TR6 is a great example of a quality daily driver vehicle. Though the paint is showing some age, the interior has recently been given new life and will surely transport the operator back in time when behind the wheel. Theres something about the slotted mag wheels wrapped in redline tires that gives this Triumph an even sportier appearance. This car is ready for all your cruising needs, and the paint, which very well could be original, is certainly nice enough to leave alone-especially if you want the luxury of not having to worry about parking lot damages. Should the new owner want to spring for a repaint, rest assured that this car is very solid outside and in. This car is the perfect vehicle for any British Leyland enthusiast wanting a cruising vehicle for the weekends! Aside from some cosmetic items, all this little Triumph needs is a new owner to hop into the freshly reupholstered interior, drop the top, and go for a ride! A really beautiful car, excellent body with deep blue paint, (not perfect but very very nice with 'mirror like' reflections on every panel)), virtually 'as new' tan interior, brand new premium cloth top ($670 not including labor), new tonneau, excellent engine and transmission........owned by the same family since the 1980s, babied and always garaged.Recent work includes (and all work, back for decades, was done by a qualified English car specialis) brakes redone, new clutch hydraulics, rebuilt distributor, new fuel pump, carbs rebuild. Tires appear to be nearly new, engine and trunk compartments are spotless, bumpers and wheel chromes are very good, all gauges and electrics work, 50-70 psi oil pressure when warm, zero smoke, wiring appears to be excellent, floors and chassis are excellent and rust free (andno undercoating or something else designed to mislead or hide damage), overall this is one excellent TR6.Smooth, powerful, soft ride, quick steering, easy shifting, hard to beat a good TR6 for the proverbial country road excursion or 'round town, long highway trips, truth is, you can acquire this 40+ year old classic English sports car and duplicate the use and function of a contemporary car. And for not a lot of money.Although not purported to be a serious show car, this Triumph is sufficiently clean for show use (as was done by the last owner) but for general road use, really needs nothing. It starts instantly, runs perfectly, no clinks in the rear end, no issues with directional stability, just a genuinely high quality TR6.Just in, fully serviced, carefully checked over, and ready to drive anywhere
