This 1972 Oldsmobile 442 W-30 is proof that Oldsmobile wasnt giving up on the muscle car era. With a 455 cubic inch V8 under the hood, a shape that is still one of the most attractive muscle cars of all time, and plenty of Oldsmobile comfort, this car represents a great way to own a legend without the giant price tag. Finished in correct code 24 Nordic Blue, this 442 is every bit the upscale cruiser that GM envisioned when it launched the nameplate in the mid-60s. It was nicely restored several years ago and still looks great, with extremely straight sheetmetal, great panel gaps, and the proper black stripes that frame the wheel wells and highlight the hood scoops. It was repainted a few years ago and shows some signs of age and use, but even from a few feet away, this 442 looks quite good. Reproduction 442 and W-30 badges warn potential predators away from this big block powered rocket, and the chrome is brilliant all around, including the rear bumper whose exhaust cut-outs only came with the L75 455 engine. The 72 Cutlasses were also dressed up with black inserts in the headlight buckets and fine mesh grilles up front, and six-element taillight lenses in back. Blue buckets with a center console is how the car came from the factory and the interior appears to be largely original. The seat covers are in excellent shape and show a lot more detail than the repro stuff, although the carpets are likely newer replacements that feature the correct weave. As an upscale model, the 442 got lots of wood on the dash and door panels, and the gauges feature brushed stainless faces that still look good 40 years later. This one also keeps it just the way the factory intended, including the stock AM radio and no aftermarket gauges or other add-ons aside from a set of embroidered 442 floor mats. The dash pad, headliner, and back seat all remain impressively well-preserved and the trunk is outfitted with a correct mat and matching spare wheel with a vintage Uniroyal bias-ply spare tire that probably dates to the cars earliest days in the 70s. The engine is the cars matching-numbers L75 455 cubic inch V8, which in 1972 grunted out a very impressive 300 horsepower and 410 pounds of torque with the W-30 option package. Some would say that performance was over by 1972, but this engine proves otherwise. With an Edelbrock aluminum intake manifold and 4-barrel carburetor, it starts easily, idles well, and pulls like a big block should with torque available at any speed. The engine bay is quite tidy, with an OEM look that includes the ram air setup on top of the air cleaner. Underneath, theres a correct TH400 3-speed automatic transmission and a 12-bolt rear end coded TO, which means a set of 3.73 gears and a limited slip, so acceleration is explosive to say the least. The 442 also received the FE2 suspension which included heavy-duty springs and shocks, front and rear sway bars, and boxed lower rear control arms (which have been upgraded to Hotchkis units). To attract attention, theres a snarling Flowmaster dual exhaust system plus those beautiful 14x7 Rally wheels wearing 215/70/14 BFGoodrich T/A radials. The 442 is legendary, and though the muscle car era was winding down, this fantastic W-30 proves that it was far from over. Fast, fun, and beautiful, call now because this Olds wont last long!
With its original V8 engine, A/C interior, and terrifically coordinated color combo, this 1972 Oldsmobile 442 tribute convertible is a total package classic finished to a high standard. The Olds Cutlass/442 line from 72 had the ideal sheetmetal that accented the sporty curves with also delivering crisp lines that made these equal parts aggression and elegance. And this convertible really takes that feeling to a whole new level. Freshly painted earlier this year, the Bittersweet Metallic paint has a great clearcoat radiance in the sunlight exactly what you want in a sunshine-friendly droptop. And the white striping does a great job of highlighting your favorite sporty features. After all, it not only draws your attention to the dual hood scoops, but also to the flares in the fenders. And the way these coordinate with the fresh white folding top makes this convertible look great even when the roof is in place. Theres even more great performance touches with the hood locks, full-width spoiler and iconic color-matched SSIII wheels. Even the chrome is great on the form-fitting bumpers, with the rear ones correctly notched to accept the dual exhaust. For the same reason you like the way the white top looks against the exterior, youre going to love the fresh white seats inside this Olds. After all, a convertible was meant to be open to the world, so its great they were thoughtful in the restoration to keep a cool combo inside and out. This might have been an intermediate-sized car in the 70s, but today that means plenty of room to share with family and friends across the two wide bench seats. Plus, theres plenty to keep them happy with the upgraded AM/FM stereo w/digital tuner, power convertible top, and cold R134a air conditioning. But a car like this is also a true drivers machine. Thats why you have the fold-down armrest to create an individual level of comfort. The upgraded wood and chrome steering wheel goes nicely with the trim on the dash and doors, and you have a clear view of all your gauges. Oldsmobile people know that a Rocket 350 cubic-inch motor is something very special. Olds manufactured their own V8 engines during this era, and they earned a hardier reputation than even some other GM small blocks. This is the numbers-matching motor to the car, and it looks great presented with its correct golden block and correct decals. Theres plenty of power from the four-barrel carb topping this V8. It has a distinctive growl as this more sophisticated motor exhales through dual exhaust pipes. Like a true classic Olds, this is a fantastic cruiser thanks features such as power steering, power brakes w/discs up front, and a three-speed automatic transmission. The sale comes with plenty of great paperwork, including the original warranty card, owners manual packet, maintenance records, and restoration photos. So when you can look this good and drive in such nice open-top comfort, you know this is a unique deal that wont stick around long. Call today!!!

#s matching 442 with broadcast sheet. Vin # match 455 motor and turbo 400 auto. Factory code 75 Matador red. Lived in Atlanta most of its life, virtually rust free. Restored to beautiful condition. EXTERIOR: Gorgeous repaint in its original Matador red color, set off with the optional white stripes. The body is in excellent shape. This car was sold new at Callaway Motors in Decatur GA and lived there most of its life. The body has its original metal. Original 1/4 panels, bottom of the doors still have clean seems, inside the door jambs you can still see the factory spot welds, bottom of the fenders are clean. All the body panels line up nice and square. A little known fact is the 442 emblems were not spaced equally from the factory. The 4s were tight and there was a space between the 4 and 2. The reason I mention this is because I rarely see them correct. If someone were to replace a panel or make a Cutlass into a 442 they would logically space the 442 equally which is wrong. This car has the 442 emblems as it left the factory! Painted about 10 years ago and still shines beautifully. As I walk around it I dont see any significant flaws. The bumpers are rechomed, in back it has the notched bumper for the trumpet exhaust tips. Stainless is great, trim around windshield is polished. Grills, hood louvers, headlight bezels are in great shape. Has new lenses in back. Windshield, window seals and weatherstrips look new. The color matched Rally wheels have been restored, trim is bright. The white convertible top that still looks new and it has new weather stripping on the convertible frame. Top boot is new. INTERIOR: Its in excellent shape inside, unabused and weel cared for. The upholstery, door panels, carpeting, dash pad are all very, very good condition. Has reproduction floor mats and a sport steering wheel. The dash area is very nice- nothing cracked or cut, the vents, bezels, wood grain is excellent. The ashtray door is not broke, ashtray is clean, original lighter matches the other knobs. Nice glovebox, has power trunk release (didnt work when i tried it). Has the glovebox pouch with original manuals, warrantybook filled out with original dealers info and buyers info and original broadcast sheet found in the car. There is a set of gauges mounted neatly under the dash to moniter the engines vitals. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Spotless metal with a clean coat of spatter paint. It has optional rubber Oldsmobile mat. The jack is clean, has spare with tire cover and correct lug wrench. The jamb has clean seams, new rubber and is painted very nicely. Bottom side of the trunk lid is painted nice, has the jacking decals. MOTOR COMPARTMENT: I would call it show quality. I just opened the hood and said wow in my head. It is very clean, orderly and detailed just as it left the factory. All the black metal is clean and smooth. The engine has a real nice, clean coat of the correct blue paint. All the wiring is neatly run, has the proper hoses and clamps. The upper hose is attached to the fan shroud like its supposed to be (rarely see that). Air conditioning system has been serviced and upgraded to R134 freon. Bottom of the hood is painted gloss red and it has the installation. Master cylinder and brake booster is detailed, alternator looks new. The 455 motor only has been completely rebuilt only 3,800 miles ago. New pistons, cam, rebuilt heads etc. UNDERSIDE: Super clean metal, dry as a chalkboard. All the factory drain holes, spotwelds and seams are clean. Everything looks proper. Has the Rallye suspension. WHAT 442 MEANS IN 1972: Only 1,179 convertibles were made. The 442 option was a handling and appearance package, it had nothing to do with the motor. You could get a 350 with a 2 barrel carb and single exhaust! This 442 was ordered with the 455, dual exhaust and a 4 barrel. This is designated by the U in the vin #. This motor also required the heavy duty Turbo 400 trans. Both the motor and trans are vin # matched to this car. This 442 has its original Rallye suspension which is required to be a 442. This includes sway bars and boxed control arms. The appearance portion included different grills, 442 emblems and hood louvers. This is an excellent example of a very rare and desirable muscle car convertible! VIN: 3G87M2M****** Year: 1972 Make: Oldsmobile Model: Cutlass Exterior Color: Red Interior Color: Black Mileage: 61,280 Engine: 350 V8 Transmission: 4 Speed Manual You can view more photos, video and information on our website: V8vintage.com Vehicle Description: This one has the 442 look you want as well as the performance and power to go with it. The Bright Red paint is slick and the body alignment is very good. According to the VIN and data plate it is an original matching numbers V8 4spd with only 61,000 original miles! This 442 is the most desirable red exterior with black striping and black interior. The exterior is in very nice condition. There are only some very minor paint defects that are pointed out in the photos and described below. You can also see in the photos the shine and reflection of the overall body, very nice! This car as it is now starts right up and drives great! It has a racy note through the dual exhaust. The engine is powerful and easily breaks the tires loose if your not careful (or if that is your intention), and the transmission operates properly. Lots of 442 options. The car has factory power steering and factory power front disc brakes as well, making driving enjoyable and effortless. This one also has the lightweight inner fender wells, the functional fiberglass Ram-Air hood also for a weight savings and better engine aspiration, and finally the functional Ram-Air intake assembly. We did find that this car also has the 442 performance rear trailing arms. A very great looking, great driving classic! Tires are decent on original vintage wheels with great looking paint and trim and matching valve stem caps. The trim is all in pretty great original condition. This car has been stored indoors in a private collection. All of the glass is good and works perfect. The radio works like new and the glovebox is in good condition. The 442 sport steering wheel is in good condition and the horn operates properly. The interior is in great shape. The seats appear near mint and very comfortable. The driver seat belt latch appears to have a bad spring in the button and sometimes take a few tries to catch. The gauges and lights work except tachometer reads low, as if it is not properly calibrated. The weatherstripping is in aged but good condition and appears to be all there. The car runs and drives amazing. I have driven it alot for testing and pleasure and it is alot of fun and gets alot of attention. The car has no mechanical problems. We are confident that the miles are original. This car also comes with a cool miniature 442 keychain so you dont forget which car the keys go to. It has all the visual horse power you could want as well. It has the W30 spoiler and wide stripe 442 appearance package. The exhaust is true dual with the correct tips and really calls out when you open up the secondaries. Being red and black with bucket seats, 442 trim, Rally Wheels and a 4 speed with Ram-Air options you couldn't find a nicer combination and it makes for a great collectible or pleasure vehicle. Don't miss out on a chance to own one of the more desirable Olds from the 70s, ready to enjoy now.
