HISTORY OF THE 280SL The 113 Mercedes-Benz platform was introduced in the summer of 1963 as the 230SL. Designed to continue the SL line from the iconic 190SL and the legendary 300SL, the new 113 SL provided a sporty driving experience with an adequate level of comfort. The iconic “Pagoda” shape was defined by the removable hardtop and aluminum boot that concealed the convertible top when not in use. The large chrome grill and three pointed star upfront harked back to the previous generation of SLs while customers were enticed by the fuel injected inline-six cylinder engine, excellent handling suspension and powerful brakes. The 280SL was first assembled in December 1967 and marked the third and final generation of the 113 chassis. With an upgraded 2.8 liter 195 horsepower engine, the 280SL marked the 113 chassis transition from a sporty two-seater to a finely appointed, adequately powered sports roadster. In the U.S., most 280SLs received a factory 4-speed automatic transmission and air conditioning. Considered by some to be the last classic SL, the 280SL has become a highly sought-after automobile by both collectors and motoring enthusiasts. This 1970 Mercedes-Benz SL Class Pagota is simply elegant. It was professionally restored 18 years ago by Lindbergh Auto Restorations in Pawtucket Rhode Island (renown for their meticulous attention to detail). Every piece of chrome was removed and sent out for professional chrome plating, the original dark olive paint was removed down to metal and then repainted in the original color using premium German lacquer paint. The interior had carpeting replaced with new original factory correct carpeting. The seats were complete reupholstered in original bamboo Mercedes-Benz material, and the dashboard was replaced with factory correct wood and stain. The convertible was replaced with factory correct German cloth fabric. The rare hardtop is all original and is in impeccable shape and is just beautiful. The transmission is flawless and previous owner replaced electronic ignition in 2006. Also, in 2006 they replaced the timing chain, timing chain tensioner, camshaft gears, water pump and other maintenance done to it. The car has the original factory tire cover, original tool and accessories kit, original manuals, and original hardtop tools. This car also has ultra rare A/C with the original manual. The A/C has been assessed for repair by a mechanic and needs to be converted to 134A a feature that was never needed so was never done. On 3/16/1987 the speedometer was replaced by the Mercedes-Benz dealer (documented) at 43,691 miles. The original owner totaled 73,000 miles and the car currently has a total of 74,998 miles on it. This car has had a total of 4 owners in its lifetime each of which has taken meticulous care of this car. It was purchased in 1999 from the original owners in Naples, Florida, and then sold to me in 2007 and shipped to Carson city, Nevada. It has been properly stored in an enclosed conditioned garage since 2007 in zero humidity northern Nevada. The car is driven several times a year to maintain the mechanical components, and never fails to draw a crowd. This car has brought us so much joy, and it will be sad to see it go, I hope the next collector loves and appreciates it as much as I have. It is ready to drive into your collection and needs no work done The VIN number is 11304412016002.

The sale of this 280SL Pagoda also includes all original manuals including the irreplaceable dealer locator book , and service receipts to document this Pagoda's history. This beauty has been very nicely cared for over the years. All Original with both Soft Top and Removable HardtopThis 1970 Mercedes Benz 280SL Roadster is a two-owner classic that was originally purchased in Oklahoma. The first owner moved to California over 37 years ago. After 15 years of storage the current owner took possession and had it professionally serviced at great expense in 2016. He informs us that this beautiful roadster hasn’t seen any changes over the years- it’s been kept completely stock from the gorgeous body lines to the drivetrain to the interior and the factory wheels. Additionally, the chrome and metalwork is near flawless and this is easily the nicest survivor we’ve come across in years. Immaculate would be a word we’d use to describe this classic sports car’s condition. The convertible top looks to be original and in nearly unused or never used excellent condition. A closer inspection of this 1970 Mercedes Benz 280SL Roadster reveals an incredible attention to detail over the years- the interior seating is virtually flawless. The original factory dash pad was replaced with a MBZ factory replacement. The woodwork was professionally redone at the same time. The original factory instrument cluster is exceptional, as is the carpeting, the factory gear shifter and the door panels. The custom rare Nardi wood grained, polished aluminum steering wheel looks great. The current owner replaced the dash pad and wood trim due to natural aging over the years. There is just the right amount of patina throughout to make this a truly exceptional vehicle and it must be seen in person to truly appreciate. Rarely do examples of this caliber fall beneath the $100k range. This is not a "perfect" trailer queen. It is a great original car, showing some normal patina. Fully restored, low mileage Pagoda's are currently fetching $200.000.- $250,000. which makes this gorgeous 280SL an outstanding value with great investment potential.Additionally, the engine compartment of this 1970 Mercedes Benz 280SL Roadster shows minimal signs of wear to what appears to the be the original strong running factory drivetrain with almost all the original accessories. The Michelin Radial Whitewall XH tires are in great condition. This one is a true survivor in every sense of the word and it drives beautifully on the open road and truly loves the curves. Good compression, great handling, just a few minor imperfections...it really has it all.An Absolute Steal at the Current Asking PriceOverall, this original 1970 Mercedes Benz 280SL 2 Door Roadster is a fantastic sought-after classic that would be the pinnacle in any serious collection. In 1963 Mercedes-Benz unveiled the latest iteration of the SL class in the form of a stylish two-seat convertible. Your eyes are immediately drawn to the prominent three-pointed Mercedes emblem the W 113 bears, a nod to the legendary 300SL. Beyond the star, chrome trim defines the grille opening, shapes the headlight bezels and accents the vehicle's roadster-inspired body. Most notable of course is the "pagoda" removable hardtop, named for its concave shape. Aluminum construction has been utilized in the deck lid, door skins, hood, and tonneau cover to reduce weight. This Benz came equipped from the factory with a 2,778cc (2.8L) M130 inline-six cylinder engine with multi-port fuel injection, automatic transmission, power disc brakes, power steering, AM/FM radio, and A/C. Much like other "pagodas" destined for the North American market, sealed beam bulb headlights and amber turn signal lenses were fitted to meet US regulations. The 280SL you see here was repainted in the factory correct Light Beige and shows well. Factory spot welds are present on both inner fenders attesting to the originality of the vehicle. Moving on to the leather interior, you'll find it to be in presentable condition, albeit a little sun-faded. There are no tears in the seats or door panels. An original owner's manual is also available to go with the vehicle so drop the top and hit the road in classic Mercedes-Benz style!Call us today at (630) 443-4582 or send an email to email@example.com for more information! This is an increasingly rare find, a stunningly original 1969 Mercedes 280SL. This fine example is part of the Philip Lutfy, MD Mercedes collection and doesnt disappoint. His cars are known to be the very best and this is a stunning example. Dr. Lutfy acquired the car from the original California owner, who sold it at after 41 years and 52,001 miles of enjoyment. Having been bought new at Mercedes-Benz of Hollywood, it is a rust-free California Blue-Plate car, having now accumulated a total of 52,500 miles. We love cars like this. This is a preservation class show-stopper. It is nearly all original. The original books and manuals are there, the original spare wheel, tools, etc. Even the spare tire is the original, unused, Firestone Phoenix tire! The rare Horizon Blue livery is handsome and has only been lightly touched up as needed over the years. It is so nice, it was readily accepted and shown at the Arizona Concours in its Preservation Class. It features the Horizon Blue hardtop as well as a new factory correct blue canvas top. The stunning exterior is complemented beautifully by the original Blue MB Textured interior, including the nearly perfect original blue carpeting. The original Becker Europa AM/FM stereo is still mounted in the dash. And the dealer installed Frigiking air conditioning works well and blows cold. Overall, this 280SL is cosmetically in gorgeous original condition and is as comfortable on the show field as a driving tour. All new subframe and engine mounts and any maintenance needed was performed on the motorcar by Dr. Lutfys preferred Mercedes engineers. The only cosmetic imperfections that we noticed were an old small paint repair near the drivers side hood that could have been performed better and a crack in the steering wheel. Both are pointed out in the photos. The engine compartment and rest of the car has an excellent minimal amount of patina that is stunning. The car is absolutely as rust free as you will ever find. It is in remarkable condition. The trunk is in perfect original condition as well as the mat in the trunk. This example has the power steering, automatic transmission, bumper overriders, tinted glass and the factory hardtop in Horizon Blue. The chrome is in very good to excellent condition. This car has obviously been garaged its entire life. The car will be sold with the complete file, books, tools, and, if desired, the carrier for the hardtop. This is an increasingly rare opportunity to find a one previous owner 52,000 mile survivor from California. For more details call Harry Clark at 1.602.245.7200 or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org. The 280SL is available for viewing in Phoenix, AZ.
