When youre shopping for a cool car, youll linger a while longer than you should on the temperamental, rip snorting muscle cars that can lift the tires off of the ground. And for some, the irritation of constant tune ups, buying race gas, and living with a monster is totally worth it. For most people, though, this clean 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu makes a lot more sense. Small block V8 power, highway gearing, interesting colors, and a friendly automatic transmission make this a car your family will beg to ride in every chance they get. Outside, the original code 55 Champagne Gold was refinished a few years ago and its nice to see they didnt try to turn it into another boring red SS clone. First, the color is completely period correct so it doesnt stand out like a sore thumb, yet it will always be unique at shows. Secondly, it goes great with the optional code H Dark Gold vinyl top, which is a rather rare choice. Its kind of refreshing to see a Chevelle with a simple, plain hood and a two-tier grille, and we have to admit that its a lot more attractive than we expected. Since this Malibu was well kept and cared for, nearly all of the trim you see is original, and its in great shape, adding a little dress-up to the low-key A-body. The factory Chevelle script and fender emblems are still in their original places, too, including the 307 badges. Nothing fake about this one! Inside, theres a new front seat cover on the big comfy bench, recent carpets on the floor, and matching door panels that tie it all together. The gold upholstery is unusual but obviously works well with the Champagne Gold bodywork, and were pretty sure most of its original given how well it all matches. Only the black steering wheel stands out, probably a necessary compromise when the time came for replacement. Sit down and get comfortable for a moment. Factory gauges are nice and bright, the dash pad is in excellent shape, and the only notable modification is the AM/FM/cassette stereo head unit in the original radios location. Plenty of room for everyone and its surprisingly comfortable. Pop the trunk and check out the nicely applied splatter paint, correct mat, and spare tire with matching cover. Under the hood youll find the cars original, numbers-matching 307 cubic inch V8. With a few bolt-on upgrades such as an Edelbrock intake manifold, Holley carburetor, HEI ignition, and Accel coil, it still idles at 700 RPM, gets decent gas mileage, and should run practically forever. Its not detailed, but its tidy and a weekend spent cleaning things up would pay big dividends. Long-tube headers feed a full dual exhaust system underneath so it sounds great and the TH350 3-speed automatic snaps through the gears like it should. Its incredibly clean under there and with power steering, its easy to manage for just about anybody. The only visual alteration are those period-correct Cragar S/S mags which carry BFGoodrich T/A radials at all four corners. This car runs a drives great and looks even better. Small enhancements make a big impression and the unusual look will stand out in an ocean of me too clones and fakes. Call today!

More chrome outlines the wheel wells and SS 396 badges appear on the front fenders. The back of the car is finished out nicely with the proper blacked out panel in the bumper sporting another SS badge along with Chevelle in script on the trunk lid and a couple chrome exhaust tips peeking out from under the bumper. The same high quality of work, fit and finish continues on Black interior of this car. The door panel is spotless with a pleated center section trimmed out in chrome piping and an SS badge at the front. The bucket seats have been freshly recovered with textured vinyl centers with smooth side bolsters. A black steering wheel with a polished three spoke hub and bowtie horn button on a tilt column with a Sun Super Tach II mounted to it. Just a flick of the wrist to the right is the Hurst shifter for the 4-speed manual transmission rising from the center console. The dash board is so neat and clean that it looks factory new. A few nice upgrades include Autometer gauges to keep accurate track of oil pressure and water temp mounted to the A-pillar and a stereo head unit that is an FM/Cassette player as well as iPod compatible with a CD changer in the trunk. Pull the pins and pop the hood and you will find a freshly rebuilt 396 nestled down in a well detailed out engine bay. There is a black air filter housing with a Turbo-Jet 396 decal sitting on top of a Weber 4-barrel carburetor that feeds an Edelbrock Performer 2.0 intake manifold. Chrome valve covers add a splash of flash to the engine bay with the rest of the engine iron painted in the correct Chevrolet Orange. Fresh components throughout include new plugs, cap, and wires as well as and new alternator and all the belts and hoses. The air conditioning compressor as well as the lines have also been replaced to keep you cool on those hot summer days. The chassis received its share of love too with fresh components and bushings that help this car handle very well. Power front disc brakes insure that you can haul this car back down from speed if you decide to let the horses run and the rubber meets the road through 225/70R14 tires on black and polished rally wheels. A better than new tribute to the awesome SS 396 Chevelle. Come on down, check it out, and you are likely to decide that you just have to take this one home with you.
This car runs strong, looks good, and drives great. Smooth, classic lines run the length of the car, catch the light, and draw your eye. Romping on the gas will put a big grin on your face, and a smile on the face of anyone watching. Considered by many to be the best-looking muscle car of all time, the 1970 Chevelle has smooth, graceful curves that flow down the length of the car. The look will never go out of style. This car is presented in a classic combination of Red paint, black SS stripes and chrome. Up front there is a black SS grill flanked by four headlights and is underlined by a sharp looking chrome bumper. The cowl induction hood is held down by hood pins so the engine doesnt try to jump out, and makes for an intimidating view from the front or the side. There are bold SS stripes, which are always a good look on a muscle car, and it has a wicked stance that says it means business. There are SS 396 badges on the fenders and the chrome back bumper has a blacked out rub strip with SS emblems on it and there are big black wheels tucked up under the fenders to complete the picture. Open the door and you will find a nicely redone interior that is both good looking and comfortable. The Black door panel sets the tone with a smooth upper panel and pleated center with chrome piping along both the top and bottom and an SS emblem toward the front. The bucket seats look trick all in black with two stripes running up them that mimic the SS stripes on the body. A deep dish three spoke steering wheel sits in front of a super clean stock SS dashboard that looks brand new with the speedo in the center and the tach off to the left with engine gauges surrounding them. A head unit for the AM/FM/CD player sits where the original radio was and ventilation controls include an updated R134 air conditioning system. A white shift ball for the 4-speed manual transmission rises out of the center console just begging to be stirred around while crisp and clean carpets and headliner tie it all together. Pull the pins and pop the hood and you will find a very healthy 402 cubic inch motor nestled down in a neat and clean engine compartment. The cowl induction hood is functional and gathers up plenty of fresh cool air to feed the beast. A black air cleaner assembly directs the air to a Holley 4-barrel carburetor and Edelbrock intake manifold. Chrome valve covers add a splash of flash to the engine and red spark plug wires fired by an MSD ignition look good too. Belts and hoses are all new and a 6-blade fan helps keep things running cool. A 4-speed gearbox sends the power back to a 12-bolt rear end with an aluminum cover. The rear trailing arms are correct for an SS car and are boxed for extra strength to go with beefy sway bars front and rear help this car handle very well. Big vented disc brakes will haul this car to a stop in a hurry and the rubber meets the road through 275/35R20s in the back and 235/45R19s in the front mounted on those trick-looking black wheels. Good looking with plenty of power along with suspension and brake upgrades that make this a drivers car. Come on down and check it out. You might decide to make it yours and drive it on home.

Documented Frame Off Restored Chevelle SS 396/375hp L78 V8 4spd Build Sheet /// Listed in Auto Trader in the summer of 2004, this Chevelle had spent the first 34 years of its life in the hands of one South Carolina owner. Get ready for something truly special. This 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu has the classic Super Sport appearance on the outside, but beneath the skin is a unique A/C interior, performance suspension, and a powerful crate V8 with thundering cutouts. This coupe was a four-year project for a father and son. So it was a labor of love that had the time to get the classic details right while also adding plenty of personal custom touches. You can instantly see this passion in the straightness of the sheet metal (most of it has been expertly replaced during restoration.) It keeps the iconic lines of the 70 Chevelle so crisp. It is highlighted further by the clear coat shine of the glossy red paint. On a car that looks this good, only the best bright work will do on the form-fitting bumpers and complete trim package. Of course, this one is more than just bright and straight its also intimidating, too. The full SS stripe package, cowl induction hood, hood pins, and correct mag-style SS wheels remind us why this is the king of the streets. Black interiors look great on a muscle car, especially when it also coordinates with the exterior stripes. The full restoration made sure to retain some nice classic elements like the three-spoke sports steering wheel and insignia trim door panels. But really, you can instantly see this is a full custom presentation. The front bench seat has a fold-sown armrest that expertly integrates the AM/FM/CD changer controls. This is your gateway to a full speaker system powered by a Visonik 800-watt amplifier. And because there is plenty of R-Blox insulation, the radio is stays crisp and clear. Of course, the custom auxiliary gauge panel and custom tach also lets you know that your favorite soundtrack might really be the dual exhaust. No matter what youre listening to, this is the perfect machine to roll down all the windows and go out cruising. Thats why theres air conditioning blowing cold with modern R134a. The engine bay looks terrific with detailed paint, polished components, and plenty of the right hardware. It looks like its radiating power, and thats for a good reason. Its been professionally enhanced and fortified with a Comp Cams camshaft, four-barrel carburetor, performance intake, four-core radiator w/electric fans, Melling oil pump, and much more. The full package has been dynod at 342 hp and 410 lb-ft. The Hedmen Hedders feed Flowmaster 50 series mufflers for a terrific rumbling soundtrack. But if you really want to bring the thunder, just flip the switch on the dash for the electrically operated exhaust cut outs. Dont just look at this exhaust setup; follow its path in the undercarriage photos. There youll spot a ton more upgrades. It includes a TCI Streetfighter TH350 three-speed automatic transmission with a Saturday Night Special torque converter. That feeds a Moser Engineering 12-bolt rear that includes 3.73 gears and Detroit Locker Trutrac limited slip. Heres a terrific mix of originality and performance upgrades. This 1970 Chevrolet Malibu has only had one owner all its lifetime, and along the way the fastback profile has been upgraded with a fresh performance crate V8. So if you love iconic lines and great stories, this is the perfect coupe. Bright red paint and iconic Cragar SS wheels are upgrades that give this one some muscle car stance. But as you look closer, what youll really enjoy are all the all the correct details. This car was built before new bumper laws, and so those chrome kings not only shine bright, but also they are integrated so nicely into the overall design. Speaking of the design, when was the last time youve seen trim so complete??? The Malibu has that bright line that starts near the headlights and doesnt stop until it curves upward and highlights the hardtop roof. Its part of a premium masterful stroke that draws attention to sheet metal thats now so legendary. While you often dont get to see these details on most classics, this one has quite a unique story. The consignor purchased it new in March of 1970. Inside, the factory-correct medium saddle interior feels fresh, and it has a distinctive color against the exterior red. There was an absolute eye for detail during restoration, because the details look good, right down to the insignia trim on both rows of seats. Plus, this one has been given the right upgrades to continue to be a terrific cruiser. It includes the AM/FM/cassette stereo and grippy wood-rimmed steering wheel. The addition of the AutoMeter tach mounted on the column is a nice indication of a great upgrade under the hood, too. This classic Chevy has a classic 350 cubic-inch V8 under the hood. But you can see from the bright presentation that this is a fresh and powerful upgrade. Its a ZZ4 crate motor installed less than 450 miles ago. It includes 10:1 compression, aluminum heads, a performance intake, headers, and Holley Street Avenger 670 CFM four-barrel carburetor. The full package is known to be rated at 355 hp and 405 lb-ft of torque right out of the box. Plus, the TH350 three-speed automatic transmission is a Gear Vendors unit that includes overdrive and a B&M torque converter with 2200-2400 RPM stall. Theres even a rebuilt 3.73 Positraction rear end to complete this aggressive power package. More than just a muscle car-like upgrade the overdrive transmission also works with the power steering and front disc brakes to deliver an overall easy cruising package. Because of this Malibus unique story, youll be glad to get all the right paperwork, including the original warranty card, owners manual, service manuals, and build receipts. There are also some original pieces that come with the sale, too. So if you like your classic both unique and upgraded, dont let this Chevy slip away. Call now!
Pay close attention, because this 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible really has everything you want. After all, you get an LS6 big block power, four-on-the-floor, and a great color combo. Plus, it even comes with the documentation showing its real-deal rare Super Sport droptop. Chevrolet made less than 9,000 Chevelle convertibles, and only a small percentage were true SS machines, so you know this cars place in history is already secure. But theres much more going on here. Fathom Blue is this cars original color. There was an investment in a quality respray in 2012, and since then, it has been treated with respect a rare classic deserves. So it has a terrific clearcoat luster in the sunshine exactly what you want on a convertible. This car was made to show off, so even the hood alone has all the best elements of the muscle car era. This includes the iconic dual stripes, hood pins, and the cowl induction vent. Plus, you get all the other great features, like the form-fitting chrome bumpers, full SS badging, and Mag-style Super Sport wheels. And the white convertible top means this has a great color-matched attitude when its in place. When you take the roof down, a new attitude emerges. The full black package with bucket seats and a center console gives it the true muscle car aggression you expect from a Super Sport. Crisp door panels, good carpeting, complete dash, and insignia trim on the seats ensure youll proudly show this convertible off to the world. And the power convertible top makes this easy. But really, this is made for the driver to get the most enjoyment. The cue ball Hurst shifter is calling out to your right hand through the darkness. A dual spoke SS steering wheel means you get a clear view of the U14 gauge cluster with large speedo, tach, and working clock. Under the hood is the 454 cubic-inch LS6 V8. This car was actually born a L34 Super Sport, but it was upgraded to the ultimate level with an era-correct true LS6 motor. In fact, this was even rebuilt in 2015 to keep this true big block legend running strong. You can also tell plenty was invested in the presentation under the hood during restoration. The engine has bold paint and the shining valve covers are radiating from within the gloss black engine bay. Muscle car fans love to point out the rubber gasket around the air cleaner that gives potential for the true cowl induction hood. It inhales deeply from the four-barrel carburetor, and the header-fed dual exhaust gives it a great rumble. Best of all, you are in complete control of this huge muscle and its thunderous soundtrack thanks to the Muncie M21 close-ratio four-speed manual transmission. This feeds a versatile 3.31 rear end with Positraction. This is strong running all the way around with features like power steering, front disc brakes, the correct boxed trailing arms, and sway bars front & rear. A classic this special needs all the right paperwork, and so the sale comes with original warranty card, owners manual, service manuals, and the important factory buildsheet. This is a true fantasy-level muscle car, and if youre quick enough to grab it, your dreams can become a reality. Call now!
A factory triple-black 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS with the build sheet to prove its a real-deal Super Sport. Can this get any better? How about an expert restoration (with about 400 miles on it) to keep this a loaded and correct muscle machine. Envy is what youre feeling right now, but thats ok. The highly sought-after code 19 Tuxedo Black has been given a full professional respray during its 2009 restoration. The quality application highlights the super straight panels, and it gives the whole car a mirror shine like it was made of black chrome. So of course youre going to feel envious of the appearance, but the good news is this car is up for grabs. So this is your opportunity to create desire in everyone you pass. The black vinyl roof is a factory correct option, which was always one of the best ways to announce a highly optioned coupe. White SS stripes on power bulge cowl hood are a big part of the appeal of the Super Sport model. But this one goes much further to get the details right, like the blacked-out grille, all the correct badging, and the correct SS wheels. Plus, those Firestone Wide Oval tires are another reminder that they really are paying attention to getting this one right. Nice chrome bumpers and polished stainless fender trim help complete a package that looks ready for a weekends worth of showing or cruising. The black interior has the same desirable mean and clean attitude as the exterior. The carpets, door panels, headliner, and seats all feel fresh thanks to an investment in making sure this interior was worthy of the triple-black moniker. The dual-spoke SS wheel give you a terrific view of the full round gauge package. Everything looks correct, right down to the AM/FM radio. As mentioned before, we have the build sheet that instructed the Atlanta factory to make this an SS car, but it also will show you it came loaded with great features. This includes air conditioning, which on such a well restored car, is still blowing cold today. So youll love cruising around with the windows down to show off the hardtop profile. As a big block factory Chevelle SS, this still has a 396 cubic-inch big block under the hood (the block dates to 1971.) You can tell there was plenty invested in the restoration so that the bold orange motor, bright valve covers, and matching air topper all look like they are radiating power from within the dark engine bay. Plus, the fresh look of the belts, wires, and hoses reminds you one again how little this has traveled since restoration. The mighty V8 inhales deeply through a four-barrel carburetor, and it exhales with authority as headers feed the dual exhaust. And the clean undercarriage gives you a terrific view of the sports suspension that includes sway bars front & rear as well as the fully boxes rear trailing arms. But as much as a Chevelle SS is a wild muscle machine, it has features like power steering, front disc brakes, a limited slip rear end, and a strong TH400 three-speed automatic transmission to keep it quite a nice cruiser. Complete with owners manual, service manual, and the all-important build sheet, this is a real-deal triple-black intimidation machine. It will find a new home soon, so you might want to hurry up if its going to be you. Call now!

He lived in the city and loved his prized Chevelle so much that (for all 30 years) he rented a large 2 car storage garage where he could work, protect and tinker with his toy. Some time ago, he had some very good years in his business and completed a "NO MONEY SPARED" complete upgrade of the drivetrain, engine compartment and undercarriage to create "HIS DREAM CHEVELLE". In his words .... he regularly exercised his prized Chevelle (in the residential area of Brooklyn) much to the chagrin of his city dwelling neighbors and the local NYPD. He is a complete expert on this car and related for me details about the engine builder, painter, transmission builder, rear-end builder ... and ... could explain almost every single item that was used to construct this beast as well as what it cost. He was extremely proud of his Dyno report of 843 HP and 734 LB-Ft of Torque as well as the test run slip he had where it ran a 9.87 in the Quarter Mile with a Top Speed of 138 MPH. It is just a pleasure to walk around this one and to check her out. She is in absolute fantastic condition. This is your car if you don t want to make any exceptions. This Chevelle was completely stripped down when she received her new paint. There is no paint on the trim, weather stripping or anywhere else there shouldn t be. The blue paint with the black rally stripes is probably the most sought after exterior color that is out there. In combination with the white interior, this machine just looks right. Of course you can expect the interior to be as beautiful as the exterior. This Chevelle is super clean inside. There are no cracks, no stains or any defects. The bucket seats, the center console and the SS gauges are all in the right place. Under the hood you will find a strong 396ci V8 that is connected to a 3 speed automatic transmission. Turn the key and the real fun starts. This Chevelle has plenty of power and she runs and drives amazing. For sale at Gateway Classic Cars in our St. Louis showroom is a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS convertible. This black big block is powered by a 375 horse 396 with the L-89 aluminum head option. This was a true screamer! Solid lifters and high compression pop-up pistons with free-flowing aluminum Winters GM cylinder heads. This is not an original L-89 car, or the price would be near double as only a handful were ever built. However, this is a very accurate representation of a real L-89 car. The car featured has received a full frame off restoration in 2014 and will stop most people dead in their tracks. The paint appears as if it is miles deep and the rumble emitting from the coated ceramic headers and Flowmaster mufflers is intoxicating. Putting the power to the pavement is a close ratio Muncie M-21 4 speed manual, 12 bolt rear end with 4.10:1 positraction gears and some wide radial rubber. The rear tires are 275/60R15 and the car needs it! These big blocks were known for their stump pulling torque. The solid lifter variant of the big blocks were some of the meanest on the street. With a redline of 6,500 RPM and a factory underrated 375 horsepower, this was not a car to underestimate. True power numbers are far above 400 horsepower, especially with headers. Some sources say adding headers to a solid lifter high RPM Chevy Big Block was worth 75-100 extra horsepower. The factory cast iron exhaust manifolds were very restrictive. Equipment on this big block 4-speed convertible include Power top, Power brakes, Power steering, Power windows, tilt steering column and an AM/FM radio. Triple black with Magnum 500 wheels wrapped with BFG radial rubber, this car is gorgeous. For more information, call our St. Louis showroom at 618-271-3000 or swing by for up-close viewing.
