Designed to continue the SL line from the iconic 190SL and the legendary 300SL, the new 113 SL provided a sporty driving experience with an adequate level of comfort. The iconic “Pagoda” shape was defined by the removable hardtop and aluminum boot that concealed the convertible top when not in use. While the large chrome grill and three pointed star in the front harked back to the previous generation of SLs, customers were enamored with the newly introduced fuel injected inline-six cylinder engine, excellent handling suspension and powerful brakes. The 280SL was first assembled in December 1967 and marked the third and final iteration of the 113 chassis. With an upgraded 2.8 liter 195 horsepower engine, the 280SL transitioned the 113 chassis from a sporty two-seater to a finely appointed, adequately powered sports roadster. In the U.S., most 280SLs received a factory 4-speed automatic transmission. Considered by some Mercedes-Benz enthusiasts to be the last classic SL, the 280SL has become a highly sought-after automobile by both collectors and motoring enthusiasts. Please visit www.schmitt.com to view our full inventory.

Symbolic International is pleased to present this excellent Signal Red 280SL Pagoda. These 280s represented the final evolution of the Pagoda W113 series, which debuted in 1963 in the form of the 230SL. While many cars engineered in the late 50s and early 60s feel and drive like they are from that era, these SLs were decades ahead of their time, in terms of build quality and driving characteristics. For such small roadsters, they feel totally Mercedes-Benz.... meaning their doors close with the same vault-like clunk that their larger sedan brothers exude, along with an exceptional neutral and stable ride, thanks for their wide stance and power steering. This particular example has benefitted form a restoration where it was re-sprayed Signal Red and its newer Tan leather interior shows basically as-new. - Southern California W113 - Recent Restoration - Signal Red with Tan Leather Interior - 4-speed MANUAL Transmission - Transmission #: 001448 (original to the car) - Factory A/C - Power Steering - 2.8L I6 Engine Producing 180hp - Engine #: 130-983-10-001660 (original to the car) If you are looking for a great looking, and driving Pagoda SL, this is it.

This fine example is part of the Philip Lutfy, MD Mercedes collection and doesnt disappoint. His cars are known to be the very best and this is a stunning example. Dr. Lutfy acquired this 1969 Mercedes 280SL car from the original owner, who sold it at 82 years of age (we handled the sale). It is a rust-free California car, with complete impeccable documentation since new, having accumulated a total of 75,000 miles. We love cars like this. The file is at least two inches thick with all receipts since 1969. And they are all in chronological order! All the books and manuals are there, the original sales invoice, spare wheel, tools, etc. Even the spare tire is original! The rare Dark Green (Color 268) livery is handsome and has been repainted by Dr. Lutfy to the highest concours standards. It features the original green hardtop as well as the original canvas top. The stunning exterior is complemented beautifully by the original Cognac (140) tan MB Textured interior, including the nearly perfect original brown carpeting. Look at the very rare child jump seat in the rear area. This is a very rare option for the SLs. The original Becker Europa AM/FM stereo is still mounted in the dash. Overall, this 280SL is cosmetically in concours condition as a stunning original motorcar that has a perfect new repaint in the original color. The engine was removed from the car and was then beautifully professionally detailed. All new engine mounts and any maintenance needed was performed on the motorcar by Dr. Lutfys preferred Mercedes engineers. The car is absolutely as rust free as you will ever find. It is in remarkable condition. The trunk is in perfect original condition as well as the mat in the trunk. This example has the power steering, automatic transmission, bumper overriders, tinted glass and chrome roof bars. This Pagoda was bought new from Edward K. Cumming & Co. on August 25th 1969 for $8,129. Charles Davis traded in his 1968 250SL for this car. The car will be sold with the complete file, books, tools, car cover and, if desired, the carrier for the hardtop. This is an increasingly rare opportunity to find a one prior owner 75,000 mile survivor from California.
