We invite you to take a look at this nicely restored teal/black 1968 Ford Bronco that is now for sale in our Saint Louis Missouri Showroom. According to its Vehicle Identification Number (U13), this Bronco build was classed as a Roadster, rather than a Wagon or Half-cab. According to factory build numbers, the Roadster had the fewest amount produced off of the assembly line. BACKGROUND: The Ford Bronco is a model line of SUVs that were manufactured and marketed by Ford from 1965 to 1996. After the first generation of the Bronco was introduced as a competitor to compact SUVs (including the Jeep CJ-5 and International Harvester Scout), the succeeding four generations of the Bronco were full-size SUVs, competing against the Chevrolet K5 Blazer and Dodge Ramcharger (Source: Wikipedia). This is a 3-speed automatic 4x4 that is being powered by a 351 Windsor engine with a 9 rear end and 4:11 gears. The body condition is good. It does not have any corrosive rust, the floorboard is solid, and its the type of classic that is either immediately ready to enjoy some off-road adventures with, or is a good starting place to turn it into a trailer-queen. As you can see in the video, this 1968 Ford Bronco starts, runs, accelerates, and stop exactly as you would expect. Whether you drive it off of our showroom floor or have it delivered to you, you will have any surprises. How it is represented in our photos and video is truly what it is. During our rigorous inspection, the only thing we noticed that was not working at the time was the windshield wipers and the heater. The Ford Bronco is a model line of SUVs that were manufactured and marketed by Ford from 1965 to 1996. The first generation of the Bronco was introduced as a competitor to compact SUVs including the Jeep CJ-5 and International Harvester Scout. The first Bronco was assembled using its own chassis and all Broncos were produced with four-wheel drive powertrains. From 1965 to 1996, Broncos were produced at Fords Michigan Truck Plant in Wayne, Michigan. In 2017, Ford announced the reintroduction of the Ford Bronco as a mid-size SUV (derived from the Ford Ranger) as a 2020 model; manufacturing is to return to Michigan Assembly. The idea behind the Bronco began with Ford product manager Donald N. Frey who also conceived the Ford Mustang and engineered by Ford engineer Paul G. Axelrad, with Lee Iacocca approving the model for production. Developed as an off-road vehicle (ORV), the Bronco was intended as a competitor for the Jeep CJ-5 and International Harvester Scout. Today a compact SUV in terms of size, Ford marketing shows a very early example of promoting a civilian off-roader as a Sports Utility The first-generation Bronco is built upon a chassis developed specifically for the model range, shared with no other Ford or Lincoln-Mercury vehicle. Built on a 92-inch wheelbase, the Bronco used box-section body-on-frame construction. To simplify production, all examples were sold with four-wheel drive; a shift-on the-fly Dana 20 transfer case and locking hubs were standard. The rear axle was a Ford 9-inch axle, with Hotchkiss drive and leaf springs; the front axle was a Dana 30, replaced by a Dana 44 in 1971. In contrast to the Twin I-Beams of larger Ford trucks, the Bronco used radius arms to locate the coil-sprung front axle, along with a lateral track bar, allowing for a 34-foot turning circle, long wheel travel, and anti-dive geometry (useful for snowplowing). A heavier-duty suspension system was an option, along with air front springs. At its August 1965 launch, the Bronco was offered with a 170 cubic-inch inline-6. Derived from the Ford Falcon, the 105 HP engine was modified with solid valve lifters, a 6 quart oil pan, heavy-duty fuel pump, oil-bath air cleaner, and a carburetor with a float bowl compensated against tilting. In March 1966, a 200 HP 289 cubic-inch V8 was introduced as an option. For the 1969 model year, the 289 V8 was enlarged to 302 cubic inches, remaining through the 1977 model year. For 1973, a 200 cubic-inch inline-6 became the standard engine, offered through 1977. To lower production costs, at its launch, the Bronco was offered solely with a 3-speed column-shifted manual transmission, with a floor-mounted shifter later becoming an option. In 1973, in response to buyer demand, a 3-speed automatic transmission became offered as an option. In a central theme of the first-generation Bronco, styling was subordinated to simplicity and economy, so all glass was flat, bumpers were straight C-sections, and the left and right door skins were symmetrical. For 1966, three body configurations were offered, including a 2-door wagon and half-cab pickup, and open-body roadster. At its $2,194 base price, the Bronco included few amenities as standard. However, a large number of options were offered through both Ford and its dealers, including front bucket seats, a rear bench seat, a tachometer, and a CB radio, as well as functional items such as a tow bar, an auxiliary gas tank, a power take-off, a snowplow, a winch, and a posthole digger. Aftermarket accessories included campers, overdrive units, and the usual array of wheels, tires, chassis, and engine parts for increased performance. For 1967, Ford introduced the Sport option package for the Bronco wagon. Consisting primarily of chrome exterior trim and wheel covers, the Sport package was distinguished by red-painted FORD grille lettering. For 1970, the Bronco Sport became a freestanding model rather than an option package. This Bronco has many features and upgrades, bucket seats, roll cage, bigger wheels and tires, aftermarket lighting for visibility during the night, separate kill switch, center console with a lock, new sound system and new speakers, the engine has been upgraded to a 302 V8. The truck sounds and drives extremely well and is definitely a great value for the price as broncos are rising in price all over the country. In the Classic Bronco realm, stance is everything. This Bronco has a great stance. Rocky Roads, LLC built this Bronco for a Orange County client back in 2003. This was a frame off body off restoration with no expense spared. The performance 351 Windsor was built by Hawaii Racing, with everything new around the engine, it was paired with a new Trans Pros built race C-4 3 speed automatic transmission, combined with a rebuilt Dana 20 transfer case. We installed new front and rear driveshafts, went through the front dana 44 axle, went through the Ford 9" rear axle, added new urethane 7 degree "C" and radius arm bushings, a new tie rod, adjustable drag link, adjustable tracking bar, drop bracket for track bar, plus new track bar bushings. All new body bushings were added, as were new front disc brakes, a new power brake booster system with adjustable proportioning valve, new 3.5 turn power steering system with a new pump and restored PS pulleys. We installed new James Duff dual shock hoops in front, 10 leaf rear springs, new u-bolts and mounting hardware, Rancho 9000 five way adjustable shocks (6) total, new Rocky Roads front and rear match painted tube bumpers, match painted fender flares, new powder coated Smittybilt full roll cage, new lights, lenses, bezels and seals throughout, new tinted windshield glass and seal, restored hard top and dash, both painted white like factory. We installed a black Linex sprayed-on bed liner, and added a set of nicely covered white Corbeau high back bucket seats with head rests with matching door and rear side paneling. Then we gave it new armrests, door cups, inner and outer door handles, 14 pc. anti-rattle window rebuilt kit, new door strikers, rebuilt door hinges, rebuilt later model electric wiper system, rebuilt heater system, rebuilt speedometer and new under-dash gauges. A new Centek wiring harness was professionally installed at our facility. A new Tuffy black locking console with a nice sounding stereo system was added, along with new front and rear seat belts, new air horns, Diamond Plate engine bay kit, DP rocker covers, DP shifter cover, DP steering column cover set, new door lock set with matching ignition key, blacked out chassis and suspension, 32" BFG all terrain tires, American Eagle 10" aluminum wheels, new lug nuts, fully undercoated, much more... The Diamond Plate was added for cosmetic reasons, not because there was rust in the truck, there is and never has been any body rust in this Bronco. It was purchased here in California, and it never had any rust repair during the restoration. This is a totally rust free California Bronco. This Bronco was also on the cover of Off Road Magazine in 2006. This Bronco just came back to us on consignment. We now have it at our facility in Chatsworth, and we can bring it to show it to you on our flatbed trailer if you are within 40 miles of LA and you don't want to drive all the way to Chatsworth to view and test drive it. We are willing to do that because we know that once you see this Bronco and test drive it in person, you will want to have it sitting in your driveway! This Bronco would appraise at over $100K these days. It's a steal at this price point. Priced fairly at $79,950.00
This 1968 Ford Bronco just came in from a referral on consignment from a local LA owner. It has a rebuilt bored .30 over factory 302 engine with a 4 barrel carburetor, electronic ignition, a four core radiator, a clean blacked out engine bay, plus a newer Ford black air cleaner. It has a rebuilt 4 speed automatic transmission, plus a rebuilt Dana 20 transfer case. It runs really well and the owner says he has a LOT of money invested. The body is pretty much rust free, and has a clean Matte White paint job, black front and rear fender flares, a clean black restored hard top. It has black chrome outer door handles and mirrors, blacked out Bronco side emblems and bumpers, a blacked out grille, plus new black 17x9" Fuel wheels with brand new 305/65R17 BFG All Terrain tires, including a matching spare. The interior consists of customized high back bucket seating, tan carpeting, and a clean head liner. There is currently no rear seat. The steering column is a polished aluminum tilt column shifter. The dash has been customized and is tastefully done, albeit different than most we've seen. It has matching door paneling and a matching center console which houses the customized 4x4 shifter, plus carpeted rear side paneling.*** We just went through the brakes, flushed the brake fluid throughout, made the horn work, installed a black Grant GT steering wheel, installed new track bar bushings, blacked out the engine bay, chassis, axles and suspension, and added 4 new shocks. Now the brakes are working like they should, and the suspension is much better. The front and rear factory bumpers have been refinished in satin black. This Bronco is on consignment, but we have the owner's permission to do whatever we feel is going to make this a better Bronco for the next owner. The add on's below are beginning to happen this week, and the price will be going up as these things get done. Current price: $39,950.00ADD: Remove after market bucket seats and tan carpeting, install either new black carpeting or new black snap-in carpet mats, then install new black Legend high back reclining bucket seats on tracks, with a matching stock rear seat OR folding rear seat with head rests, along with new black carpeting $4,250.00 installedADD: New RR black pleated vinyl door, rear side and tailgate paneling $1,650.00 installedADD: New suspension including new 2.5" front coil springs, 11 leaf rear springs, new shackle bushings, new grade 8 hardware, new 7degree "C" bushings, new radius arm bushings, new Bilstein shocks, paint suspension satin black.
