Gateway Classic Cars now has a very special and beautiful 1968 Dodge Dart GTS Convertible available in Houston! This one is powered by a numbers matching 340 CID V8 engine that goes through a factory TorqueFlite transmission. This engine has only covered less than 500 miles since the car was restored in 2013. Exterior is finished in a red with black top combination. Features include an AM radio, automatic convertible top, hub caps, power brakes, power steering, jack, seat belts, vinyl interior and radial tires. This is part of the fourth generation of Dodge Dart vehicles produced between 1967 and 1976. The Dart was substantially redesigned for the 1967 model year. It received new styling, revised steering systems, wider front track and frame rail spacing. Redesigned K-members were added to accept the larger engines that Dodge had in mind for the car. In 1967 you would also notice the rear window with inverse curves, creating a new and unique appearance at the rear of a greenhouse, but designed to collect snow! The 170 CID I6 was dubbed simply Dart , with the 270 and GT carrying on mostly unchanged. In late 1967 the GTS came out in limited quantities due to it s lateness, but the 1968 was arguably improved anyway, by fitting the new high-output 340 CID V8! That is the car that you are looking at here. The first of the 340 GTS cars. Aside from the engine, changes for 1968 were relatively subtle. The park and turn lights in the grille were moved slightly inboard and made round. Side marker lights were added to the front fenders and rear quarter panels, to comply with newly introduced Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108. Shoulder harnesses (separate, this year and until 1973, from the lap belts) and non-glare matte finish on the windshield wiper arms were also part of the 1968 federally mandated safety package. This is a hard to find vehicle and a perfect addition to the garage. 1968 Dodge Dart Super Stock For SaleBy now, Every speed enthusiast in America has heard about the new 2018 Dodge Dart Hemi. With race times of 0 to 60 in 2.1 seconds and a quarter mile in under 10 seconds, this is the new fastest car on the road. What people may not know is that the history of this new Dart goes back to the late 60s. On February 20th, 1968, Chryslers corporate headquarter sent a Press release to Dodge dealerships across the country of its intent to build and sell drag ready, Hemi powered Darts. The press release stated that Dodge wanted to build a factory built race-ready drag racer out of the 68 Dart GTS hardtop for competition in Class B Super Stock drag racing. As a limited option only available in 1968, the L023 became the Hurst-reworked Hemi Dart using the 426 Hemi engine. These special models of which only 80 were made, were created strictly for drag racing, and included a non-warranty disclaimer. Dodge blew everyones mind when they decided to squeeze a 426 Hemi engine into the breadbox sized engine bay of a Dodge Dart, creating a factory-built racer that could scream into the high 9s to low 10s right out of the showroom, same as todays Dart... Top speed was reported at 130mph. While these cars were not intended for street use, and came with a disclaimer stating such, Chrysler did set them up to meet street legal requirements. This undoubtedly led to some very cool late night drives. From that day on, a true legend was born. This machine came straight from the factory built on Dodges smallest car in their fleet, the Dart; and Chryslers most powerful power plant, the 426ci Hemi. The 1968 Dart Super Stock 426 Hemi was considered the fastest factory-built high performance machine on the planet in its day. Today, an original 1968 Dart Super Stock 426 Hemi can hit and exceed the $200,000 - $250,000 mark IF you can find one of the original 80 made. Today, we are proud to offer this very special exact reproduction with a special story of its own! This Dart started its life as a basic Dodge Dart. A very well kept rust free car with all the right stuff. It was purchased by its second owner and builder of the car from scratch. It began with a true 1968-69 426 street Hemi engine that was sitting for decades on a shelf at a local Fire Department on Long Island in NY. The factory built street Hemi engine (block # 2468330) originally came from a 1969 Dodge Charger. The engine had less than 1200 miles when purchased back in the late 1990s. By 2000, it was sent to the legendary engine builder Jack Merkel in Hauppauge NY to be upgraded to the exact specs of the 1968 Dart Super Stock 426 Race Hemi engine. Upgrades include 12-1 pistons, blue printed heads, correct Cross Ram manifolds with correct 4235 & 4236 Holly 750 carbs. All linkage is correct as is a body Hemi oil pan and system. Correct Hooker Headers, unsilenced air cleaners, trunk mount Super Stock battery, A-833 Slick Shift 4-speed transmission with correct Hurst Shifter and Hurst reverse lock out. A brand new DANA 60 Heavy Duty Sure Grip rear end with 4.88 gear ratio, all as delivered meaning exactly how it left the factory!! A fully restored front end was also added. The body was completed by the second owner himself. it is built to the exact specs of the original Dart Super Stock 426 Hemi as delivered. The original body was rotisserie-restored, and fully primed as delivered. No undercoating or body sealant was added as original. The raw fiberglass front clip with Hemi lift-off hood, Plexi type side glass with pull strap glass and fixed quarter glass, all as delivered. Hurst factory type rear wheel well cutouts are as delivered. It has the correct black rims & street tires, special off set master cylinder and hoses and the correct detailing and stickers from the factory. This Dart is literally built as close to original Hurst specs as possible. It is a TOP show winner and has never been raced! This car is so precise that even the interior is fully restored to specs including the exact A-100 light weight bucket seats with aluminum mounting brackets. Chrysler initially used these seats in the A-100 Dodge Van. They found them to be extremely light weight and began using them in the Super Stock Dart. Racing seat belts and all correct delete plates were used as original. This amazing piece of Stock Car history is virtually brand new and as a reproduction, is available at a fraction of the cost of one of the original 80. This is a street legal Dodge Dart Super Stock 426 Hemi. The original 1969 426 Hemi engine was professionally upgraded by Legendary engine builder Jack Merkel to the Race Hemi in this Dart. The body, frame and interior were also professionally built to perfection. 1968 Dodge Dart Resto Mod----Hellcat crate engine with Polished Kenne Bell SuperchargerFor your consideration is a beautiful 1968 Dodge Dart GTS known as the Blow Dart. The Blow Dart started life with a very dry body from a western climate that allowed the use of its original body panels and if you know Mopar you know how hard this is to come by. While most people would have been satisfied having an original 1968 GTS, the builders at LexiJ, Inc/ RMR Dreamcars could not leave well enough alone. True to their nature, they took the Dart completely apart and down to bare metal to create this incredible pro-touring machine. After a trip to Las Vegas, where the car was voted to be in the top 10 Mopars of the 2016 SEMA show and after it was featured in Mopar Collectors Guide magazine, it was brought back to Florida to receive a heart transplant among other things. The 493 super charged big block went to a new home a brand new Hellcat took its place. While we cant say how many 1968 Darts there are running around with a new Hellcat engine, Ill bet we can say that its not too many. This one doesnt have to worry about seeing its self going down the road. With the custom paint, one off wheels, carbon printed bumpers, electronic gauges, Vintage Air, pro-touring suspension and over drive transmission, a person can call this a spectacular built Mopar capable of being driven anywhere in comfort and over the top style. Please take a look at the pictures and build list, I am sure you will agree that this is a fantastic car in every way capable of winning shows, driving the Power Tour or just being enjoyed as a weekend date car. Everyone that sees it comments on the extremely straight panels, deep paint and overall good looks and that is all before the hood is opened. Please, if you have any questions about this car contact Mike Staveski at LexiJ/Dreamcars in Hudson Florida at 813-789-6179, where any of your questions will be answered because this is where the cars transformation took place. 1968 Dodge Dart GTS complete 2000 plus hours rotisserie resto-mod build completed in 2018. 6.2 Hellcat long block with a 6.4 Hemi 2.8 polished liquid cooled supercharger that makes 652 RWHP using TTI headers and Flowmaster Exhaust. 1968 Dodge Dart GTS Convertible For Sale - Restored, Fully Documented, Rare LMC is very proud to offer for sale this 1968 Dodge Dart GTS Convertible The Dodge Dart was one of the most successful compact cars to ever come out of Detroit as it offered a level of performance and styling that was unmatched in its segment. New for 1968, the Dart GTS was offered with a 340 CI small-block rated at 275 HP and a 383/330 HP big-block. The larger engine’s extra weight, combined with the 340’s rumored actual output of 300 HP, negated the 383’s power advantage, making the GTS 340 a well-balanced threat to Chevrolet’s Nova SS. Technical goodies included a Carter AVS 4-barrel carburetor, low-restriction dual exhaust system with chromed tips, Rallye performance suspension and 5.5-inch wheels with E70-14 Red Streak tires. Twin hood bulges and a tell-tale contrasting bumblebee stripe mark this 1968 Dart convertible as a GTS 340. This particular Dart GTS Convertible was built on March 25th, 1968 at the Hamtramck Plant. Factory painted in the highly desirable “S” code yellow back completed by a black power convertible top and black interior. It was factory ordered with the optional 340 engine backed by the TorqueFlite automatic transmission. As easily noted from its overall condition, this gorgeous vehicle has been beautifully restored and it is fully detailed throughout. Outside, the exterior is covered in its factory “S” code Yellow base/clear paint and uses the black bumblebee tail stripe to accent the black convertible boot and upscale black interior. The interior includes both bucket seats and a center console, the wood steering wheel, chrome pedal dress-ups, tinted glass and a remote driver’s-side mirror. The exhaust still ends in the chrome tips standard on the GT Sport package. This car also has power steering and manual drum brakes, as well as the A-body big-block Rallye suspension. This fast, comfortable, and stylish Dart is an outstanding example of a rare muscle car that was built to be driven and enjoyed on nice summer days. One of only 271 ever to leave the factory; complete with a numbers matching engine and has benefitted from a very nice restoration. Included with this beautiful Dart GTS are the Galen Govier documents, Broadcast Sheet, Owner’s Manual, plus more. This Dart GTS would be the perfect addition to any Mopar enthusiasts collection.
