If we could, wed stock all the Streetside Classics showrooms with nothing but 1968-1970 Dodge Chargers. They sell and they sell FAST! So if youre admiring this attractive 1968 Dodge Charger, complete with a gnarly 440, pick up the phone and call right now because theres no way itll be here next week. Chrysler totally nailed the muscle car look with the Charger, and right out of the gate, the 68s changed the game forever. This one is dressed in bright blue, now rendered in modern urethane paint so the shine is fantastic. The dramatically curved body is in good overall condition with crisp details and very good panel alignment, all critical on a car where every panel needs the one next to it to look right. Its got a few signs of use and age, and you could erase some of the issues with a professional cut and buff. Cool 1968 details include the little round side marker lights and the round taillights that look like jet exhaust ports or something, not to mention the full-width grille and hidden headlights, which snap open when you hit the switch. The flying roofline wasnt aerodynamic enough for NASCAR but looks like a million bucks on the street and is one of the Chargers finest features. Nice chrome bumpers and correct R/T badges round out a car thats built to cruise, not for a trailer. The custom bucket seat interior is mostly Charger, but now finished with comfortable cloth upholstery thats a lot better than the original sticky vinyl. Blue piping makes it look neatly tailored and matching black door panels with a taut headliner give the Charger an intimate feel inside, all anchored by black carpets and a matching dash. The factory gauges are original and showing their age, but a trio of aftermarket gauges under the dash keeps an eye on the engines vitals. A modern AM/FM/CD stereo is in the center of the dash and a trick B&M shifter manages the TorqueFlite underneath. The trunk could use a new mat but its in otherwise good shape. Thats a thumping 440 cubic inch V8 under the hood, rebuilt for combat and ready to rock. Its nicely detailed and has been upgraded with an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and Performer intake manifold, Mallory ignition system, and a set of headers. With a solid wall of big block torque behind you, this car always feels fast and throttle response is crisp. The 727 automatic transmission feels robust as you bang through the gears and the tough Dana 60 rear end doesnt seem to mind spinning the tires now and then. The suspension was lowered slightly which gives it an awesome rake and its a look to match the soundtrack from the Flowmaster dual exhaust system. The floors are quite clean although not shiny and perfect, and the rear suspension is augmented with a set of traction bars to help that 440 plant the torque. Old school Cragar chrome mags look great on the Chargers sleek bodywork and carry fat 245/60/15 white-letter radials. These cars are insanely popular and this one gets all the big stuff right: great looks, big engine, lots of power, and no issues. Like I said, if youve read this far, it might already be too late. This is the real deal! A Documented TV series screen used General Lee. This is not a car from the movie, its not from a reunion show, its not from an Auto Trader commercial, its not a car that was jumped at Dukes fest, its not an old replica that someone claims to be real because it came from Georgia. This is a fully documented, registered authentic General Lee used during the 80s TV series Dukes of Hazzard. It was the 2nd nicest of the General Lees released by Warner Bros. to Wayne Wooten in 1991. It was brought into use during the 3rd season making it a fairly early car and used for a total of 5 seasons until the show was canceled. It was used for lite stunt work and as a camera car. It is completely original, as built by Warner Brothers, including the paint, with exception of the jambs which were painted orange to match the car. It has the original hand painted flag and hand painted numbers. The tires and wheels are original and stamped Volozie. In Warner Bros inventory it was known as car SGL26 and later updated to WGL33. It started life as a 1968 Big Block 383 with a 727 and was converted to a 69 by Warner Bros. The original matching #s 383 engine is still in the car! Since the car left Warner Bros possession it has appeared at Dukes event where nearly all of the cast and crew have autographed it. Comes with a Warner Bros. log book showing the cars history and work (along with other cars) during its time with WB. If you are looking for history and historic value, this is the car! If you are looking for a shiny car to drive on the street, check out our Hemi replica. We recently sold another 1 of the 17 General Lees and it didnt last on the market for 30 days. Second chances dont come around often, dont expect a 3rd! Dont miss out on this rare opportunity! This car is being offered by owner on consignment and is not located at the museum facility. Serious buyers may see the car in NC by appointment prior to purchase.
VIN: XP29G8G*****Year: 1968Make: DodgeModel: ChargerExterior Color: Brushed SteelInterior Color: BlackMileage: 13,428Engine: 383ci V8 Transmission: 727 3 Speed AutomaticYou can view more photos, video and information on our website: V8vintage.com Vehicle Description: What you are looking at here is a rare find, and as with all unique finds it has a great story. This car was last on the road in 1984 when the owner became unable to drive any more. It still has its 1984 inspection and registration stickers in the windshield. Unable to drive the car any longer he put it into stored inside in his garage until one day his grandson was old enough to appreciate cars and began to inquire about the 'hot rod' in the garage. Unfortunately, due to having sat for 20 years they were unable to get it started. The pair began to tinker with the car here and there as a family project but due to one’s advanced age and the others inexperience with cars they were never able to get the car to run. After several years the owner passed away and left the car to his grandson who by this time was working and had some disposable income. The car was then sent to a repair shop that identified the running issue to be a very fouled and corroded fuel tank. They replaced the fuel tank, cleaned out the fuel lines, rebuilt the carb and the engine fired right up after over 30 years and took its first drive around the block on its original bias ply tires. It was then mechanically rebuilt. It also received light upgrades such as electronic ignition and new performance wheels and tires for reliability and covered in an amazing textured 'Brushed Steel' vinyl wrap. Most people who have seen the car cannot tell it is not real bare steel even when up close. It has all the aesthetics without any of the maintenance! It was not on the road from 1984 until sometime around 2016. All of the work was done to make the car drivable and enjoyable again. The brakes are all drums but have been rebuilt and function properly. The power steering is working perfectly. It received an alignment when the wheels/tires were replaced and all lighting, blinkers and everything you need to enjoy this vehicle are in proper working order. The engine and transmission were rebuilt. The vinyl top was replaced, and the body was all sanded down, prepped and primed and then covered with a textured vinyl wrap to imitate brushed metal without the hassles of rust. Top quality 3M vinyl was used, panels are easy to recover in the event of damage. This vehicle still sports its factory original big block 383 driveline with 727 transmission, rebuilt. This is a great looking and great driving Charger with original interior and underpinnings just with cosmetic additions to the exterior. It cruises easily at 70mph. The AM radio works, but the original antenna has been replaced with a hidden antenna under the dash. All of the windows work great, as do the seats. The rest of the interior is in great shape. All black, the door panels and carpet appear to have been replaced with new, but the seats and headliner appear to be great condition original. The console trim looks good and the console door works decent though does not appear to align perfectly when closed. The glovebox is in new condition. The steering wheel is in original and in great shape. The horn operates properly, and the car has a new battery. The body is covered in a high-quality 3M textured vinyl such as what is used on modern Rolls Royce’s. The brushed steel texture is amazing and realistic even up close. It is very durable and easy to wash, and repairs are much less expensive than with a traditional paint job. The hood, trunk and doors open and close beautifully (see videos on our website). The engine bay is clean and looks good, I would say show ready in case you want to pop the hood. It performs its intended job well, it runs amazing. It has a low, loping rumble at idle with a smooth acceleration. The exhaust is a 2.5" aluminized true dual setup with 'H' pipe and dual Flowmaster 40 series mufflers and original tips. The flip-over headlights operate great, the vacuum lines were replaced when the other work was done. The shocks were also replaced, as you can see from the undercar photos. All repair and maintenance items appear to have been address and in great shape. You'll also notice from the undercar photos that the floor is in excellent shape. We also pulled back the carpet to take a look at the top side of the floor and it is in really great shape all around (see photos on the website) When I drove the car, I was impressed by the acoustics at low idle and the smooth cruising feel of the big engine through the 3-speed automatic. The tires are massive, with a 275/55/17 rear tire footprint which keeps you planted and stable unless you really want to break it loose on purpose. It felt good when getting on the open road and letting it run up to 70mph. The ignition was upgraded with the later factory Mopar electronic ignition, so no worries about getting stranded with burned points. The tires are in new condition with deep tread on aftermarket wheels. 275mm wide tires in the rear on 17x8 American Racing Magnum 500 wheels and 225mm tires on 17x7 AR Mag 500's in the front. The trim is all in great original condition. The hood turn signal indicators work great, and just like the rest of the lenses are all new. This car has been stored indoors for over 30 years with the previous owners and of course indoors in our private collection this past year. All of the glass is good and works very well. The weather-stripping appears to have been replaced when the reconditioning was done. It all appears soft and in great condition. The car also has a 1:64 custom bare steel matching keychain so you never forget which car the keys belong to. This car just as it is now starts right up and drives great! It shows very well and looks great, as you can see from the photos and video. Everything is working and in top shape. A very great looking, great driving classic! I have driven it for testing and pleasure, and it is a lot of fun and gets a lot of attention. The car has no mechanical problems that we can find. We are confident that you could drive this car anywhere. Cruise in style with something unique and different, stand out from the mustangs and camaros with some original Mopar muscle! Don't miss out on a chance to own a unique piece of automotive history, ready to enjoy now. 1968 Dodge Charger General Lee The ultimate muscle car! This particular 1968 Dodge Charger is a factory big block car. It was a 383 equipped car but now has a fire breathing 440 under the hood. Runs drives and stops great! No issues and no repairs needed to enjoy driving it as the car sits! No smoke cranks right up! Fully functional hideaway headlights!!!!! Power steering manual brakes (can be easily converted) Sway bars Automatic three speed transmission All gauges work Gas temp speedo oil pressure ect! Even the Clock works! Brand new tires Fresh oil change All glass is good and windows roll up and down Interior is in good shape headliner and seats are solid one small spot on driver seat only. Dash is cracked in a couple of spots. All interior is in the car. Floors body frame and trunk are very solid Body has a couple of areas where the paint is beginning to bubble, but nothing is soft and I holes in the body. Frame rails are super clean! Very hard to find an old Mopar with solid rear rails! Floor pans are solid no soft spots Trunk as some prior fiberglass work on one area but its solid and holds weight. Factory ac car(missing compressor and hoses) Not an RT As you can see it has an eye catching General Lee paint job. Do not believe the car was not used on the Dukes of Hazard since the real general lee was a 69. The car is equipped with the correct horns that play excellent and are very loud. 1968 Dodge Charger R/T - HEMI While the hideaway headlights remained up front in 1968 the rest of the body for the Dodge Charger was redesigned. The tunneled rear window, reduced roof line and subtle flaring on the fenders created a totally different look that much more suited its status as a muscle car. These cars were hits back in the day and in modern times their popularity has grown even further making these Mopars among the most desired cars around. Boosting that desire even further is the optional 426 Hemi motor that was only put into 475 hardtops including the one you see here. This makes the car pretty rare considering over 17,000 R/Ts were made for this year and this car was originally an export car that was sent to Europe immediately after completion. All of this is documented in a Galin Govier report which comes with the car. This 1968 model is a very nicely done car that underwent a complete body off rotisserie restoration bringing it back to like new condition. The body was solid prior to restoration and the original floors were kept in place due to how great they looked. The deep Burgundy paint suits the bodylines nicely and pairs perfectly with the Black vinyl top. It is the original color from the factory (RR1 on trim tag) but it has been repainted and done to original which includes the factory ordered stripe delete. All of the original chrome and trim is nicely mounted in place and all of it has a great finish. The hideaway headlights up front are working properly and back you will find the dual round taillights which were also new for this year. The rear section around the taillights is painted in a matte Black which creates a nice contrast and is how the car would have been done originally. The car has a great stance and with a slight rake gives it that fast, tough appearance even when sitting still. The original wheels have a nice shine paired with blacked out sections and are wrapped in BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires. The car shows very well and is actually in the order of the Pentastar which is only reserved for the best of the best Mopars. As mentioned before this car is a true Hemi car and came out of the factory with the dual 4 barrel 426 Hemi and Automatic transmission combo. The motor has that stock style look with matte valve covers, chrome circle air cleaner, and the rest of the components being painted. The firewall, inner fenders, underhood and springs are all painted to match the body. In addition to a great look the motor starts up smoothly and runs extremely well. This isnt a classic that is all looks because that Hemi still has no problems getting those wheels spinning. Front disc brakes are in place which are a factory option along with the Hemi suspension system and more. The interior of the car is complete in White and Black. The upholstery work is in great shape as is everything you see on this car. All of the original trim is there and everything has that factory look including the knobs, switches, gauges and radio on the dash. The original center console sits in between the front bucket seats and houses the original automatic shifter and storage compartment. The trunk of the car is finished out as well being painted to match and topped with the original trunk mat. These Hemi Mopars are always going to be popular and make a great investment car due to their low production numbers. As time goes on they are only going to be getting more and more rare so grab it up while its still available! With only 475 made there is no telling when another one will show up on the market. No collection is complete without a hemi mopar so add this one to yours for $149,500.00!
