This solid driver 1968 Corvette is in good condition and is a prime candidate for restoration. An original Lemans Blue Stingray the coupe is equipped with its numbers matching 427 cubic-inch big block V8 that produces 390 horsepower. Power is put to the pavement via the four-speed manual transmission that shifts great. The Stingray runs and drives nicely but would need a comprehensive mechanical service to ensure reliability. The hideaway headlights and concealed windshield wiper system operate as designed. The wheels feature the optional Bright Metal Wheel Covers and are wrapped in radial tires (3 Coker Classic Redline radials and 1 Mastercraft White Wall radial tire). Inside the cabin is a blue vinyl interior with bucket seats and a center console. The interior door panels and seat upholstery look great as well as the dash board. All the components under the hood look factory original and are accented by the chrome valve covers and air cleaner as well as the chrome ignition wire cover. Being sold “as-is”, this Corvette Stingray coupe seems to have all the original parts in place and would make a great candidate for restoration. Corvette 68... all different all over. Thats the quote from the sales brochure for the redesigned 1968 Corvette. The body was completely redesigned with the coupe losing its fastback window but gaining a removable back window and removable t-tops for that almost convertible feel. The chassis itself did not change much from the 1967 model. The new hidden wipers and hidden headlights are vacuum operated instead of electrical. Door openers now use a push button to open and a push in handle to pull the door, this was only used on the 1968 model. The new auxiliary top for the convertible has a glass rear window. The new standard automatic was the 3-speed Turbo Hydra-Matic instead of the 2-speed Power Glide used previously. A new fiber-optic monitoring system was added to the dash and Astro-Ventilation was added to improve the airflow in the cabin. The 68 Vette did not have the Sting Ray badging on it anywhere, it would return in 69 as Stingray. 1968 was also the year that Zora Arkus-Duntov was named Chief Engineer of the Corvette.

According to the original title in our possession, Mr. Frederick T. Webster of Southgate, Michigan purchased this car brand new. When new, he ordered a Drag Package installation by the delivering Chevrolet dealer, which included 780cfm Holley carb (GM) upgraded intake manifold, rectangular port cylinder heads, high compression forged pistons and rods, solid lifter cam, upgraded Muncie transmission and bell housing, and upgraded rear end. Then, since 1992, the car has been tucked away in storage. From the factory, the car was painted one-year-only British Green (code 983) over a Standard Black interior. The car is powered by the original, numbers matching L36 427ci/390hp 4bbl V8 mated to the original 4-Speed gearbox. In the Spring of 2018, the car was pulled out of storage and completely overhauled mechanically. RPM Inc. of Jenison, MI began a 9-month rebuild of the motor and accompanying performance parts, totaling over $14k in receipts. It was professionally balanced and now runs exceptionally well. Beyond this recent engine work and the upgrades Mr. Webster made to the car when new, the car remains highly original. The paint and interior remain untouched from the factory. Also, the 23,700 miles on the odometer are believed to be original. So the question is: drive the hell out of it as-is with original cosmetics, or restore the body and make it show car? The choice is up to you. Either way, the 427 motor is dialed in for its next home. All original parts to restore to factory original specifications accompany the car, including the dealer ordered Drag Pack components. It also comes with a folder full of recent mechanical receipts and original paperwork, such as the original title and original registration records from Mr. Webster. It is a unique piece and Chevrolet only made 9,936 Corvette Coupes, and even less in British Green. Be sure to check out all the photos and video on our main website: Garage Kept Motors. 1968 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe A small highly maneuverable warship that typically escorted larger armed fleets is the origin of the name Corvette. At this point, the third generation Corvette accounts for the middle section of the brands story and, looking back, its a remarkably appropriate car to hold that place. With visible nods to both Chevrolets heritage and future, I give you this Stingray Offered for sale is an original low mileage (54,500) chrome bumper 1968 Corvette Stingray which has undergone a complete on frame restoration. According to the owner, the car is a matching numbers example powered by a 327ci V8. Exterior Rally Red in excellent condition covers this straight paneled consistent gap car. A T-top with the factory original vinyl pouches comes with the car. Also seen are re-chromed factory fitted side pipes, and 8-inch stock Corvette wheels wrapped with red stripe radials. Consigner states that this was a frame that was free of any accident damage, and the underside shows the meticulous attention to detail during the restoration. Interior Completely new red vinyl seating with its true to Corvette form chrome accents shows well under the T-top. The Corvette retains its original and working AM/FM factory stereo with original dash and console which includes the original 1968 fiber optic light monitors. This 3 owner Vette has fully functional gauges, hidden headlamps and wipers. It is a non-powered steering and brake car. Drivetrain The 327ci 300 hp Holley 650 cfm carbureted engine and 4-speed Muncie transmission will afford you to reach warp speed very quickly. To bring you to a halt, new stainless brake calibers, disc brake rotors, pads and brake lines were added. A new steel fuel line connects the new steel fuel tank. As previously noted, the frame is free of accident damage. Recently the car was dyno-tuned for peak performance with oil pressure between 55-60 lbs. The car presents itself as a high-quality driver and priced reasonably given the restoration, extensive documentation, and originality.
1968 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe From boulevard cruising to backroad bruising, its hard to find a better all-around performer than a Corvette. And once Chevrolet firmly established the brand as a global tour de force, it began a constant quest to achieve increasing levels of performance and desirability. No generation of Corvette emphasizes the transition from muscle car to all-out sports car better than the C3. This numbers matching Corvette with an interesting color combination, graces our halls here at Classic Auto Mall. It stands out as something different for the Corvette aficionado due to the blue interior. Just hearing this one may take pause, but seeing is believing, and this writer is hooked on the combo. Exterior 972 Polar White respray in correct color match shows some checking. Side exhaust matching the exterior with factory covers hang from both sides of the car and offer a sound that reverberates right back to 1968. T-tops and a pop out rear window turn this shark into all but a convertible. Dayton wire wheels adorn all four corners. (This car is available with 4 correct rally wheels as well) Interior Medium Blue vinyl code 414 only available in 1968 model year, covers the buckets, door panels, and dash. This creates a beautiful combination to the exterior white. Some fading and a little wear is seen on the drivers chair, however overall it presents in good condition. Center console is wrapped in blue and uses aluminum highlighting as well as some black and a large chrome shift knob to set everything off. Also, a wood steering wheel adds a nice touch to the overall interior. Carpeting throughout appears as slightly faded. Drivetrain A 327ci/350hp numbers matching power mill is backed by a 4-speed Muncie manual transmission, resides in an overall clean engine bay. Power steering, power brakes, and factory AC are installed as extra options. A gander underside reveals 4-wheel disc brakes, a good condition frame, as well as a clean underside. Just a very nice looking, well sorted 1st year C-3 Stingray that runs and sounds like it did in 68. If you are in the market for a well-equipped early Corvette thats ready to cruise, do not hesitate on this one...When the shark bites....!
