1967 Pontiac GP We have a great looking 1967 Pontiac Grand Prix in stunning red at Skyway Classics. It sets off the contrasting white top and interior beautifully. First introduced as part of Pontiacs full-size car model offering for the 1962 model year, the Grand Prix name was also applied to cars in the personal luxury car market segment and the mid-size car offering from the 2nd generation to the 5th generation for the sedan and from the 2nd generation to the 6th generation from the coupe; it returned to a full-size car from the 6th generation to the 7th generation for the sedan, positioned below the larger Bonneville in Pontiacs model lineup. The Grand Prix first appeared in the Pontiac line for the 1962 model year, as a performance oriented replacement for the Ventura, which became a luxury trim level of the full-size Catalina It was essentially a standard Catalina coupe with minimal outside chrome trim and a sportier interior (bucket seats and a center console). The performance-minded John De Lorean, head of Advanced Engineering at Pontiac, contributed to the development of both the Grand Prix and the GTO. Revised sheetmetal with rounded but even more pronounced Coke bottle styling highlighted the 1967 Grand Prix and other full-sized Pontiacs. Also new to the GP were concealed headlights with horizontal mounting (all other full-size 67 Pontiacs retained the vertical headlights for one more year), concealed windshield wipers and ventless front windows on hardtop coupes. Out back were louvered taillights similar to those found on the GTO. Inside of our Red GP is a no-cost optional notchback bench seat, which is rare. Other features of the original parchment interior included a revised instrument panel and door panel trim. Under the hood, it has the original YD coded new bigger size than the previous years 389, 400 cu in V8 with an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor and intake, dual exhausts and 350 hp. The 400 V8s were basically bored out versions of the older 389/421 block but with various internal improvements including bigger valves and improved breathing capabilities. This GP also has air conditioning, PS, PB, a dual master-cylinder braking system and along with spinner hubcaps as well as white stripe tires. Also new for 1967 was an energy-absorbing collapsible steering column. The Grand Prix was offered as a convertible in 1967 only, a 1 year model! I sold this car 10 years ago and that couple babied and thoroughly enjoyed it. EXTERIOR: What a great color on this car and the paint job is excellent if I might say so myself. The metal flake is laid out evenly, the clear coat is buffed to a glossy smooth finish. All the body panels fit dead on, they fit square and flush. If you look close, yes you will find a few little touch ups or nicks, but Im telling you its a quality body and paint. In front has the hidden headlights which is unique to the GP. All the chrome and trim shows real well, not new but shiny and straight. Grills are in great shape, windshield looks new. The windows fit to the convertible top really, really well especially for a convertible. The top is white still very good. Has pearl white boot when the top is down. The door jambs are very clean, painted nicely, weatherstrips are real nice, bottom of door is clean. It has original stainless door edge guards. If youre going to have one of these big Pontiacs, 8 lug wheels are a must and this car has them! INTERIOR: The pearl white interior is beautiful against the blue exterior. I tell you what, Im sitting in the car right now and its really well cared for. Im looking at the dash and all the chrome sparkles, the burl wood trim is excellent. The knobs, vents, instrument cluster are all in really great shape. Has a factory Am-Fm radio. Of course part of the Grand Prix package was bucket seats and a console. The upholstery is in excellent shape and cushions in the seats are still nice and firm. The door panels are great, armrests are not cracked, even the cranks and handles are excellent. Visors, mirror, seat belts are great too. The carpet is excellent and it has reproduction Pontiac floor mats. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Motor compartment is cleaned up nicely. It looks stock. It has a stock 1967 400-360 hp H.O. engine with the Pontiac aqua paint, original air cleaner and a 4-barrel carb. The alternator and master cylinder look recently replaced. Factory air conditioning system is all hooked up. Everything looks proper. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The trunk is huge, the full size spare is hardly noticeable! Has jack and mat too. It looks like its original clean metal. I dont see any patching, quarter panels look like theyre the originals. Its been spatter painted. The bottom of the trunk lid and the jamb is painted nicely, weatherstrip is excellent. UNDERSIDE: Very clean and respectable. Floors look like solid original metal. Clean braces, lower 1/4s, inner rockers. Its been cleaned and a light coat of satin paint was applied to look nice. Bottom of motor and trans are clean. Has original Turbo 400 automatic. Everything looks proper. The front end components look good, e-brake cables are hooked up, nice dual exhaust etc. No issues that I see, actually I was very pleased. This is a sleek, yet handsome car with full size luxury and still its sporty. It is also a very nice example considering its colors, options and condition. I consider it a very well preserved honest car. Air conditioning Power steering Power brakes Power top 8 lug wheels Am-Fm Bucket seats Console Retractable lights Fender skirts
