You know we get a lot of A-body convertibles here at Streetside Classics, but this cool 1966 Chevrolet Malibu ragtop stands apart. Not over-done, its just clean, sleek, and packs a great-running small block to get some attention. This is how to do it if youre going to build a car that does everything well. With a snarky 355 cubic inch small block under the hood and those big wheels, the pretext of this being a candidate for points judging is long gone, but if youre looking for the slickest and freshest A-body ragtop on the market, were pretty sure this is it. The sizzling metallic burgundy paint is a little bit subtle, and on this big, bad convertible it delivers big-time eyeball appeal. Of course, thats only possible with great bodywork, so every square inch of the sheetmetal was stripped, straightened, and smoothed before any of that gorgeous red paint was applied and the results were definitely worth the effort. The doors close easily and show good shut lines, the cowl-induction hood fits flush, and you can see how crisp and clear the reflections are in the cars surfaces; you know that doesnt happen by accident. Most of the emblems were shaved, so it looks very clean, and they wisely avoided stripes or graphics and just let the bodywork speak for itself. Good choice! Malibu fans will also be delighted to see a fairly stock black bucket seat interior, complete with a factory center console. The seat covers, door panels, and carpets look recent, and theres a handsome Grant steering wheel that looks especially cool here. The original gauges were nothing exciting, so a full set of Auto Meter dials were tucked into the factory dash. Upgrades include a polished tilt steering column and a great-sounding Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo head unit that slots into the dash like it was born there. Up top theres a recent black power convertible top that fits so snugly you can bounce quarters off its surface and the trunk is neatly detailed with matching black carpets and a full-sized spare. Any variety of engines slip right between the Malibus front fenders, so this one got a balanced and blueprinted 355 cubic inch V8 thats dressed a bit like the original might have been. An open-element air cleaner hides an Edelbrock carburetor a polished intake manifold, but the Chevy Orange paint on the block sure looks like GM-issue. Theres also an HEI distributor, big aluminum radiator with electric fans, and a set of long-tube headers feeding a stainless exhaust system with an X-pipe to give it a wonderfully threatening rumble. Theres also a TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and a 10-bolt rear end with 3.42 gears inside, so it is equally happy on the streets or the highways. The floors are solid, the rockers are straight, and all the work has a very professional look to it, so theres no denying this cars quality. Handsome American Racing wheels look like vintage Torque Thrusts and carry big 245/45/17 performance radials. This is one of those cars thats probably even nicer in person than it looks in photos. Straight, beautifully built, and impressively fast, you couldnt build one this nice for less money. Call today!
This is one of the best looking 66 Chevelles you will ever find. Starting with the 66 body style arguably puts it amongst the best-looking cars of all time without even considering the work done by expert craftsman and the attention to detail that has gone into this car. But lets consider that work. Check it out. This car has a serious bit of chassis rake to it that lets you know it means business and the Dark Toreador Red paint on this car is awesome. It has a super shine to it that really catches the light showing off the smooth contours of the body including the bulging rear fender lines that give the car such a muscular look. The chrome all shines like new. Up front a blacked-out grill with an SS 396 badge is outlined in chrome and underlined by a sharp looking bumper. The ridges down the hood and the tops of the fenders are crisp and clean. Trim around all the glass received its share of elbow grease to make it shine too and wheel well moldings as well as polished rocker trim compliment 18 Weld forged wheels. Out back, the sail panels of the roofline blend nicely onto the trunk and Chevelle as well as SS 396 appears between the taillights with a simple and clean bumper underlining it all. Open the door and you will see that the show continues inside too. A black interior is trimmed out with the nicest chrome you will ever see highlighting door panels, dash and console. A custom, black and chrome three-spoke steering wheel with a bowtie center button will grab your attention. The column itself is polished up with a knee-knocker tach mounted on the right. The rectangular speedometer is flanked by the stock engine gauges with control knobs mounted above it. In the center is an FM radio that is trimmed in more of that sparkling chrome. Below that are the ventilation controls that include R134 updated air conditioning, and below that are a trio of white faced Equus gauges to keep accurate track of oil pressure, water temp and voltage. The center console has the T-handle shifter for the automatic transmission as well as a clock. The seats have been reupholstered and a fresh headliner as well as carpeting really tie the look together nicely. When you pop the hood, you will see that all this cars Show, is backed up with plenty of Go. There you will find a 468 cubic inch power house of a motor nestled down in a neat and clean engine bay. It is a short deck 454 from an early 70s car that has stroked and built up to make some serious power. A polished air topper feeds fresh air to a Holley 4-barrel carburetor and an Edelbrock Performer 2.0 intake manifold. An MSD ignition system assures a hot, reliable spark and Polished aluminum is plentiful with the valve covers as well as the Vintage Air compressor and alternator dressed for the show. Hedman headers wind their way out the bottom leading back to Flowmaster mufflers. A 12-bolt differential with 3.73 gears gets the power on the ground while Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes insure that you can haul this car back down from speed. Coil overs in the front allow some adjustability and the rubber meets the road through 245/40ZR18s in the front and 285ZR18s in the rear mounted on those sharp Weld wheels. Seriously fast and one of the best looking 66 Chevelles you will ever see. Come on down and check it out up close and personally for yourself. We think you will be impressed.
Documented Numbers Matching Body Off Restored Chevelle SS 396/360 HP V8 4 Speed /// Different is what truly defines this award-winning hardtop. Instead of being another run-of-the-mill red car thats finished with bucket seats, black vinyl and everyday Rally Wheels, its a numbers-matching, real-deal Super Sport that rolls a red, bench seat interior on body-matched steelies. So, when you call your friends here at RK Motors Charlotte about this magazine-featured Chevy, not only are you getting investment grade metal thats restored and ready to roll, youre getting factory-unique muscle thats guaranteed to draw attention in a sea of lustful classics! The beneficiary of a comprehensive, frame-off restoration that was completed in 2011, this sweet Super Sport wears clean sheetmetal under correct Regal Red 2-stage. Recognizing the cars significance as a real-deal SS396, the restorers decided to keep trim and ornamentation just as the General specified. Under the hood, an original L34 396, branded with a familiar 3855961 casting number, a correct EF suffix stamp and a matching 137962 partial VIN, utilizes hydraulic lifters, a forged steel crank and closed-chamber, oval-port heads to turn beefy 10.25 to 1 compression into an easy 360 horsepower. Behind that mill, an original Muncie 4-speed, which wears a Muncie (P) assembled on December (12) 13th (13) build stamp, sends power to a tough GM 12-bolt, a correct posi-traction differential and correct 3.31 gears. That fully marked drivetrain is held off the ground by a restored and tagged chassis, which features fresh shocks, old school manual steering and rebuilt power drum brakes. And at the corners of the car, painted steelies twist 7.75-14 Firestone Deluxe Champion redlines around polished stainless hub caps. Wrapping numbers-matching power and unique aesthetics in an incredible restoration, this award-winning Chevelle is ready to take your weekends to a whole new level! I purchased this 1966 Chevelle from the original owner who purchased it in 1966. In the early 1990's her husband decided to have the car completely painted with a beautiful jet black paint job and a custom black leather interior. All of the exterior body panels and trim were kept original or NOS parts. He also had a custom rear tub kit from S & W Race cars and equipment installed by the company that installed the custom leather interior and paint work. The car was also updated with a high performance 454 crate motor prior to the restoration with a turbo 400 transmission.I personally completely rebuilt the engine around 2003 and added numerous high performance parts including Edelbrock heads, intake, cam, etc. The engine was tuned on a dyno prior to instalation. The dyno recorded 550 hp and 600 ft/lbs of torque. This car runs great and is fun to drive and performs well on the street. The car has never been raced and is always garage kept. Please check out the photos and feel free to contact me with any questions.

We are very excited to offer for purchase this 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu, which is a very professional complete frame-off restoration. The next owner of this beauty will be very proud to have it parked in their garage and will get a huge thrill out of driving it. This is a Malibu, not an SS. Numbers do not match. It was restored with a big block engine. BACKGROUND: The Chevrolet Malibu is a mid-size car manufactured and marketed by Chevrolet from 1964 to 1983 and since 1997. The Malibu began as a trim-level of the Chevrolet Chevelle, becoming its own model line in 1978. Originally a rear-wheel-drive intermediate, GM revived the Malibu nameplate as a front-wheel-drive car in 1997. Named after coastal community of Malibu, California, the Malibu was marketed primarily in North America, with the eighth generation introduced globally. The first Malibu was a top-line subseries of the mid-sized Chevrolet Chevelle from 1964 to 1972. The Malibu SS was replaced in 1966 by a new Chevelle SS-396 series that included a big-block 396 cu in (6.5 L) V8 engine, heavy duty suspension and other performance equipment. This particular 1966 Chevrolet Malibu is very remisicent of the 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS-396. This one does have the 396 powerplant (bored .060) with new front and rear suspension. The rear suspension has new boxed lower control arms and rear swar bar, with added links that connects the upper and lower together. Upon request, we have a complete list of restoration work and improvements. All receipts of work done on car will go along with purchase. In short, you have every reason to inquire further about this 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu by viewing it in greater detail, including HD pictures and an HD video of the car running and driving at our website - http://www.gatewayclassiccars.com. For even more information, please call 618-271-3000 or email STL@GatewayClassicCars.com to speak with one of our knowledgeable sales consultants.
Theres something formal, yet trim and tough about the styling of Chevrolets 1966 Chevelle, like a mixed martial arts fighter in an Armani suit. This beautifully preserved example of an SS 396 car is a true 138 numbers matching car! Combine that with the fact that it has 33,491 actual miles showing on the odometer and this thing is a time capsule of what a true American muscle car should be. Dressed in a brilliant Aztec Bronze exterior that is complimented nicely with a tan vinyl top makes this one rare color combination. Powering this SS is a very potent 396 cubic inch V8 that was rated from the factory at 360 horse power, but there has been rumors of that numbers being under exajerated. Looking under the hood it appears the way it would have the day it rolled off the assembly line. Transferring all of that big block go fast power to the 12-bolt rear end is a 2-speed automatic powerglide transmission. If you are lucky enough to sit behind the steering wheel of this machine you will be treated to the factory bucket seats that are a matching tan to the vinyl top. The stock dash houses a set of factory gauges that work just as great as they look. You can view this 1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 Chevrolet in greater detail including HD pictures and an HD video of it running and driving at Gatewayclassiccars.com. If you are interested in purchasing this vehicle or have more questions regarding it please call us at (303) 872-4722 or email us at Denver@gatewayclassiccars.com.
