1965 Mercury Comet Caliente The Comet was originally planned as an Edsel model. Ford announced the end of the Edsel program on November 19, 1959. However, production of 1960 Edsels continued until late November. The Comet was reassigned to the Lincoln-Mercury division to sell at Mercury-Comet dealerships, where it was marketed as a stand-alone product for 1960 and 1961 as the Comet without any Mercury divisional badging. Simply stunning is the only way to describe this award-winning Mercury Comet Resto Mod. No expense was spared, or corners cut on this 2014 build. Just 1,650 miles have been driven since the completion of this spectacular muscle car. Exterior The flawless black paint is base coat clear coat with a specially built hood from a 1973 Dodge Challenger. All chrome was done to perfection by Librandi plating with all stainless refinished by Polish This. Chrome Chip Foose Wheels complete the exterior appearance of the build. Interior The interior sports a restored by Classic Instruments cluster with special tach built into the speedometer. An Ididit adjustable steering column makes entry for any size driver. A special 1966 Chevy Impala console is finished off with an aluminum shift plate. All seating is done in contrasting leather to the exact pattern of the 1965 Comet. The front buckets are 1968 Ford Torino. An AM/FM radio with Bluetooth and MP3 capability provides the sound. Drivetrain Starting with the power plant, the owner chose the 650hp 572ci Chevy crate motor powered through a Tremec TKO five-speed gearbox. A Ford 9-inch rear with 350 positraction complete the drive line. Cold air induction is provided by Spectre Performance with Wizard aluminum radiator cooling. Undercarriage The frame is a 2x3 boxed rectangular configuration with front and rear suspension by Martz chassis. 12-inch Wilwood drilled and vented disc brakes are positioned on the front and 14-inch Wilwoods on the rear. Steering is provided by a power rack and pinion unit. An immaculately restored example using many parts that combine together to create this unique resto mod. Perfect paint, and seams and construction, interior and exterior are tough to beat. A true show stopper, head turner, and 1 car parade when driving down Main Street. 1965 Mercury Comet 404 A/FX Re-Creation has undergone an incredible build by American Hot Rod in Anaheim CA. It was updated with a Carroll Shelby aluminum block 427ci engine with Ford aluminum cylinder heads, a solid roller cam and a Quick Fuel Tech carb system. A Hampton 871 blower and Jessel belt drive system sits up top to pressurize the big block. An Art Carr 2 speed Powerglide transmission with trans brake gets the power from the massive motor delivered to the slicks underneath. 1965 Mercury Comet Caliente convertible. This is a rare car has had a tasteful Resto-mod conversion and has been totally restored. Only 6035 Convertibles were ever made. According to the previous owner, every inch of this car was redone. The underside was sandblast epoxied and primed and painted. New springs, shocks, Moog suspension and new brake components installed. 1989 Mustang 5.0 L HO Fuel Injected engine, bored .010 over and completely rebuilt. C4 automatic transmission installed and also rebuilt. Rebuilt 3.00 Posi-traction rear differential. The body has been completely redone and has had rust free original quarter panels installed. The doors and front fenders are original and rust free. Reproduction Comet AFX racing fiberglass racing hood installed.
