The market for early 60s Impalas remains strong, and none are so iconic and desirable as the 1964 models. With clean styling, a functional interior, and potent performance thanks to a wide variety of engines under the hood, Chevrolet created an Impala that could be as unique to each buyer as a custom-tailored suit. This very impressive 2-door SS sport coupe (yes it is a real code 14 SS) has been beautifully restored in its original color combination and drives superbly. Finished in its original code 900 Tuxedo Black, this SS stands out among its more common red brothers. Covering straight, clean bodywork, the brilliant black finish looks awesome with just the right amount of gloss, making it easy to believe its 1964 all over again. Those long quarter panels are tough to repair if theyve been damaged, and given how straight this car is, its probably never been rusty or hit. All the chrome and other trim pieces, including the bright metal SS insert running the length of the body, is in excellent condition. Up front, the Impalas grille is undamaged, while out back, all six taillights are bright and clear, including the back-up lamps in the center units. There might be a few minor signs of use, but youre going to love being seen in this car. Inside, its a stunning original code 815 black bucket seat interior. The interiors condition should tell you something about how well-maintained this car has been from new, and it all fits together very nicely with nothing looking too new or too old. The console is original and features the SS-exclusive engine-turned trim that matches the dashboard. Theres also an original center-mounted tachometer (sadly its not operational) along with the basic array of gauges that came with the standard Imp. And, of course, the most notable feature is the big chrome 4-speed shifter, which makes this car a ton of fun to drive. Beautiful SS door panels, very nice black carpets, and an unmarked dash are all evidence of a car that has always been loved. Even the trunk is nicely finished with spatter paint, a full-sized spare, and a correct mat set. The engine is Chevys top seller in 1964, a Turbo-Fire 327 cubic inch V8, which is this cars original, numbers-matching powerplant. Contrasting Chevy Orange paint looks great against the satin black engine bay and there havent been any notable deviations from stock. Thats a factory air cleaner (now chrome plated), original-style hoses and clamps, as well as GM stamped hoses. It was rebuilt to L79 350 horsepower specs, so its absolutely savage on the road yet remains docile and friendly when you hit traffic. Underneath, the chassis was detailed and the floors are finished in black, providing a great background for the new exhaust system. Brakes and suspension have been rebuilt to factory specs, and power steering makes it easy to handle. The suspension is stock, so it has that comfortable big car ride youd expect, and period Torque Thrust wheels carry fat 225/75/15 blackwall radials A lifetime southern car with a great pedigree, this is an opportunity to own a stand-out Impala SS with V8 power that will always be the star of the show. The 1964 Impala is just as iconic today as it was when it was new. As a testament to their enduring popularity, just watch any music video or check out the garage of a pro athletes home-theyre all rolling in vintage Impalas just like this lovely Ember Red hardtop. Sporting a strong-running 350, automatic transmission, and a fresh paint job that looks fantastic, its next summers best bet for stylish cruising. This is about as close as youre going to get to a brand new 1964 Impala. Virtually everything but the roof and pillars are new: quarters, doors, fenders, hood, all of it is fresh, clean sheetmetal. That means its ultra-clean and ultra-straight, and at this price, it represents something of a bargain. The paint was sprayed as soon as the bodywork was finished, and the brilliant red paint works rather well on the stylish Imps bodywork adding a high-visibility touch that only accentuates the straight lines. The guys who did the work knew what they were doing because there are no obvious signs of the upgrades; the body fits together well, with good gaps, neat trim alignment, and a solid feeling going down the road. All the chrome and stainless trim sparkles and even the side trim is remarkably devoid of parking lot dings. Despite the resto-mod stance and wheels, this Impala has a very authentic look and feel once you get up close and personal. Inside, the original-style red vinyl interior remains in exceptionally good condition. Refreshed at some point, its a nice blend of original styling and reproduction parts that make the Impalas perennial favorites. Both front and rear seats are in excellent condition with new foam underneath, and even the drivers area shows very little wear. Recent carpets are the correct color and weave, and the door panels are neatly detailed pieces that blend right in. A console and T-handle floor shifter were part of the deal on an SS, so theres no reason not to have them here, and it certainly feels right to reach down and rest your hand on the chrome lever. The factory gauges cover the basics and the original AM radio is still in place, but it sadly isnt working (which also means that you can install the system of your choice just in time to go cruising). In back, the cavernous trunk is neatly finished with new floors and fresh mats. Theres a 350 cubic inch V8 under the hood, which is a nice step up from the original 327, and it looks exactly the same! Nicely detailed and obviously well maintained, it runs like a small block Chevy should, with easy road manners and an awesome V8 soundtrack. Its also correctly dressed, with 327 decals on the valve covers, an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor under the factory air cleaner, and a painted intake manifold. Power steering and brakes make it easy to handle, but all the factory-style parts are there, including the single reservoir master cylinder. A big radiator keeps things nice and cool and theres a fresh alternator in place of the factory generator. The TH350 3-speed automatic transmission shifts well and feeds the original rear end, and while youre under there, please note that the fresh floors, exhaust system, gas tank, shocks, and other components really make this car feel fresh and tight. It has a bit of a rake, just for some attitude, and sits on Rally wheels with 205/70/15 BFGoodrich blackwall radials all around. This Impala is a timeless resto-mod thats also wonderful to drive. 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS Coupe A fair amount of the classics that come through the doors here at Classic Auto Mall are of a caliper that is more show than actual go. These are all wonderful cars, however when you were a kid, did you dream of trailering your car to shows, turning the key only when the sun is shining, and only driving short distances if any for fear the odometer would turn an important milestone? Bet you did not, and there have been several consigners coming through our door that are unloading their classics for that very reason, they are tired of that routine. If you want a great runner, you can hop in and drive it on any trip short or long, and if it rains, roll the windows up! This is the car for you, of you are a midcentury modern bow tie fan, and dont want the hassle of rummaging through endless junkyards for parts, or spending money on expensive repairs, the consigner has already done this for you. A beautifully restored Chevrolet Impala, Resto-Mod style with an updated 572ci GM crate motor that punches out 620hp at an effortless the turn of a key, make a timely visit to Classic Auto Mall. Exterior Bathed in endless deep Candy Apple Wineberry with black ghost flames, the steel straight, evenly gapped panels are wave free, and fit like it just left the factory. All brightwork is beautiful, and correct badging is seen overall. There is even trim accenting the gas filler door...now thats 60s cool! The car sports an SS Logo on the rear quarter panel. Curved front glass with a sun filtering tint coating at the top, stretches across the back of the hood, and shows in very good condition. A large reversed hood scoop adorns the front of the car. Steel wheels accented with Chevrolet Hub caps and shiny polished rims are seen all around. I had the pleasure of logging a few miles on this baby, and it is a great driver, with an unbelievable kick. Interior Black vinyl with vertical tufting in the middle of plain back bolsters cover the buckets in the front and bench in back. The buckets are framed in shiny trim at the back. Door panels take on a similar version of this seat motif, and show a smattering of chrome door actuators, window cranks, and buttons all of which present in good condition. The two-tiered dash utilizes machined aluminum with small parallelogram design, and sparkles with chromed knobs and an aftermarket radio. A wood covered 3 spoked machined aluminum steering wheel fronts the quintessential Chevy styled speedo, fuel gauge and clock. We can also note the trunk is clean enough and probably large enough to live in and is wrapped with textured trunk paint. Drivetrain A 572ci V8 replaces the original engine and is draped with a dual intake chrome air cleaner, as well as 572 Chevrolet orange valve covers. It inhales through a 4-barrel carburetor, and exhales through a pristine exhaust system. In between sits a 4-speed Richmond transmission, which shifts smoother than silk. The whole engine bay is showroom clean, and ready to have dinner served on it! New power disc brakes bring this car back to reality as to speed very efficiently. Undercarriage As one expects with such a quality build, pristine sums it up. A 9 inch 3:55 Rear, and Hotchkiss sway bars front and back, as well as 4 new shocks. Last a new gas tank and sending unit are present. A careful and painstaking restoration by the consigner, finished 6 years ago, is now here for the taking, and for anothers pleasure. A meticulous build with some serious horsepower, and upgrades to handle it. Careful hold your neck up straight and tighten up!
