Theres no doubt the Ford Thunderbird was a game-changer when it hit the market in 1955. Not designed to compete with the Corvette, but surely inspired by it, the Ford was more luxury than sport, but that was just fine in the eyes of Thunderbird buyers, who eagerly bought every single one Ford could build. This lovely Thunderbird Blue 1955 T-Bird has been with the same owner for nearly 55 years. Impressive! Thunderbirds are notorious for rusting in some pretty demonic ways, so finding a solid example is important. The paint is 13 years old but it remains in fantastic shape, making this one of the most impressive early Birds weve seen in a long time. Code T Thunderbird Blue was accurately replicated using modern finishes so its bright and clear in person, and all the chrome shows quite well. To say it was an expensive job would be an extreme understatement, but I think youll agree that it was worth every penny. This car has also been fitted with a correct non-porthole hardtop, which might look odd but the porthole didnt show up until 1956. 1955 also included unique exhaust outlets in the bumper guards and what many enthusiasts consider the most pure shape: no pointed tail fins and no continental kit to mar the lines. This is a great-looking baby Bird! The bright and cheerful 1950s were in full swing inside the Thunderbird, complete with two-tone turquoise and white seats. Thunderbirds came pretty well loaded, but this one also includes goodies like A/C, power windows, a power seat, and a 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission, so motoring is effortless and luxurious, as intended. The seat covers are exact replicas of the original equipment, and matching door panels are like art with their bright trim and sculpted vinyl. The instruments are original and in decent shape, including the sweeping speedometer and tachometer to the left of the instrument panel. Theres also an AM/FM/cassette radio, which fits neatly in the original radios slot. This is a single top car (the base Bird came with either a hard top or a soft top, but both was an extra-cost option), but with the way it looks and the A/C, youll be more than happy to keep the hardtop in place. The trunk offers reasonable storage space, even with the full-sized spare living inside. Power for the Thunderbird is supplied by Fords P-code 292 cubic inch Y-block V8, which makes a robust 198 horsepower. Finished with red Ford engine paint, those distinctive finned valve covers with Thunderbird logos, and a chrome air cleaner, its a study in early industrial design; Ford designers knew the engine had to be pretty in this car! It was rebuilt some years ago and shows signs of use, but it has also been properly maintained so it continues to run well today. It starts easily and drives beautifully, with a crisp V8 burble from the tailpipes providing the perfect accompaniment, and the modern A/C and alternator blend in well enough that most folks wont notice. The suspension is trusty, with soft springs for easy cruising, and drum brakes that are more than adequate for the T-Birds modest curb weight. Classic 6.70-15 Firestone wide whites with standard hubcaps give it a true 50s vibe. Early Thunderbirds are as stable as granite in the market. Buy this one today, enjoy it, maintain it, and it will always reward you with great performance and almost guaranteed resale. Call today!
Early Thunderbirds like this 1955 example remain some of the most collectable 50s cars and its easy to understand why. With strong-performing V8s under the hood, a dash of luxury, and style that still makes people smile over sixty years later, these are ideal cars for the collector who enjoys driving. This first-year Thunderbird truly came from the mind of artists, and you can see it in the clean line running from the headlight to the tailfin. Fit and finish are good, with doors that feel substantial and a trunk lid that fits so well that the gas filler is neatly centered in its opening. When youre a Thunderbird fan, you know to look for the extras. Items like the fender skirts and hardtop let you know this is a premium example of Fords personal luxury cruiser. But, of course, the bright work on these is the real showstopper. Its complete and mirror-like appearance looks fantastic against the black paint on places like the wide mesh grille, factory wheel covers, and the twin tailpipes poking through the rear bumper guards. And speaking of standouts, the whitewall tires are a must-have for iconic style. There are two timeless colors that go with black: red and white. So they used both for the interior. The way the two colors interweave on the seat, door panel, and dash make this a real class act. Plus, items like the tachometer, floor shift, and the machine aluminum panel that runs from door panel to door panel give this the sporty feeling that made them a Corvette rival. You even get great original pieces like the provisions for power seats and AM radio. We know youll love slipping behind the factory dual-spoke steering wheel. It gives you a clear view of the nifty speedometer thats lit from behind by a Plexiglas window viewed through the windshield. Under the hood is the Thunderbird Special 292 cubic inch V8. It has the bright chrome air cleaner and gorgeous cast aluminum valve covers that were part of a dress-up kit. The four-barrel carburetor adds plenty of power and a sweet purr to the dual exhaust. As a true personal luxury vehicle, the Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission makes driving effortless. So theres nothing stopping you from going out an enjoying this icon on the open road. Complete with owners manual, you might have thought that you could never afford your dream car, but the first person to grab this deal gets to make it a reality. Call now!
Early Thunderbirds like this 1955 example remain some of the most collectable 50s cars and its easy to understand why. With strong V8, great color combo, both tops, and plenty of luxury inside, this one offers a terrific balance of sporty and luxury in an iconic vintage package. Its hard to find something more desirable than a first-year T-Bird. The way the panels fit together means you can clearly see the timeless elegance in the clean unbroken line running from the headlight to the tailfin. When youre a Thunderbird fan, you know to look for the extras. Items like the fender skirts, color-matched factory wheel covers, and the freedom that comes with both a soft top and color-matched hardtop. But, of course, the bright work on these is the showstopper. Its mirror-like appearance looks fantastic against the factory-correct red paint on places like the wraparound front bumper, wide mesh grille, accenting the subtle hood scoop, and the twin tailpipes poking through the rear bumper guards. Those whitewall tires are an iconic piece that also tell you someone was thinking about the total coordination of this example. Red with the hint on white on the exterior is also what you get on the inside, too. So this T-bird is a fantastically coordinated package whenever youre open to the world. Its also built to be a great mix of sporting and artful. You see it in seat that has bolstering for individual comfort. The machine turned panel has a great sporty look as it flows across the dash and onto both doors. The steering wheel is a mini work of art finished in red and chrome. And the backlit plexiglass speedometer is pure 50s cool. More than just nostalgic, this classic really feels luxurious with the right features like the thick pile carpeting and a power adjusting seat. Under the hood is the Thunderbird Special 292 cubic inch V8. The bright red engine block paint goes nicely with the rest of this cars color. Plus, it looks correct in all the right places, including the Thunderbird special valve covers, windshield washer bag, and the pie dish air topper with correct diaphragm surrounding half of it. This motor inhales deeply through a four-barrel carburetor, and it exhales with a sweet sound out of the dual exhaust. Plus, with power steering and the Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission, you have a truly great boulevard cruiser. This is a true icon of the open road, so dont let this well-finished example slip away. Call now!

BID AND WIN this vehicle on www.WheelerAuctionGroup.com 3 Speed, power windows, power seat, rebuilt carb, nice interior! Runs and drives great. Will need new top. Overall nice car, with potential to take to the next level, or enjoy as it is! The now-famous 1955 Ford Thunderbirds origins came from the 1953 Ford Vega concept (not to be confused with the GM product of the 1970s). Fords Vega was a one-off, but generated some interest, which moved it from concept to reality as Fords stylish two-seater offering for the budding sporty two-seater market. While the Corvette struggled in its inaugural year, the Thunderbird soared. Much of that had to do with how the car was marketed. It was a sporty personal car, rather than an out-and-out sports car, as the Corvette was positioned. The body-on-frame chassis used existing Ford parts, and had a wheelbase that spanned 102 inches identical to that of the Corvette. Meanwhile, the Thunderbird was a more dignified, personal luxury cruiser. It had roll-up windows and standard V-8 power, both things that were not available on the first Corvettes. Other features included a removable fiberglass top, a fabric convertible top, and fender skirts for the rear wheels. There was one engine for the first 1955 T-Birds, and it was the 292 cid Y-Block V-8 fitted with a single four-barrel carburetor. With the standard 3-speed manual transmission, this engine made 193 horsepower, and with the optional Ford-o-Matic transmission, it made 198 horses. The exhaust pipes for the Thunderbird were integrated into the rear fascia and above the rear bumper, giving it an unmistakable Jet-Age look. In just the first five days of being on sale, over 3,500 orders were placed for the 1955 Ford Thunderbird, indicating hot demand. Ford had planned to build 10,000 in its first year, but ended up selling 16,155 in its first year of production. Vehicle is located in Wisconsin, USA. Bidder/Buyer is responsible for pickup or shipping from this location to wherever they want it shipped to.

Thank you for your interest in this stunning 1955 Ford Thunderbird presented by Gateway Classic Cars of Tampa. One of the most beautiful pieces of Americana, they were considered to be direct competition to the Chevrolet Corvette. Helping spawn a new generation of automobiles in the United States, and aimed to take on the European market, the Ford Thunderbird was powered by a 292 CID V8, which gave the already smaller, lighter car the power it needed to make for both an excellent road racer as well as the perfect car for older couples to sit back and enjoy a movie at the drive-in. Mated to the engine is a 2-speed automatic transmission, which allowed the car for fairly smooth shifting, but in the higher gear allowed the vehicle to cruise at highway speeds without drinking too much gas. The interior of this car is a beautiful red and white two tone seating, with red carpets throughout. The hard-top is painted in white to give the car a two-tone look. Take the top off to enjoy the beautiful weather in absolute style! The exterior is painted to match the interior, with a stunning bright red paint job with a new black top that really gives the car a high quality 1950s kind of feel. Driving a 1955 Ford Thunderbird is truly an experience one simply cannot explain, these cars are the truest form of Americana one can find. Options include AM Radio, Hub Caps, Seat Belts, Vinyl Interior, Wide White Walls, Wire Wheels, Power Steering, Power Brakes and Power seat. We are very proud to offer for sale at our Saint Louis Gateway Classic Cars Showroom this stunning 1955 Ford Thunderbird. This is a great example of a very well restored first year Thunderbird. The smooth running 292 fires right up and idles smoothly. Equipment includes Power steering, Power brakes and Power windows. It is painted in an eye catching red over two tone red and white interior with a matching red hard top. Adding to the pop and shimmer is a set of radial wide white wall tires wrapped around a set of wire wheel hub caps for a very classy look. Power from the 292 is sent through a smooth shifting automatic transmission. The odometer is showing 88,393 with roughly 3,000 since the rebuild. The Thunderbird was Ford s answer to the Corvette and they ended up selling 23 of them to every Corvette in 1955. This almost put an end to the Corvette until the Thunderbird went another route in 1958 and leaned more towards the luxury market by adding a couple of more seats. The first-generation Thunderbird will always be a recognizable car and who can forget Suzanne Sommers driving a white T-Bird in American Graffiti? For more information on this gorgeous classic 1955 Ford Thunderbird, call 618-271-3000 or stop by our St. Louis showroom. To view HD photos and video, visit www.gatewayclassiccars.com
For sale at Gateway Classic Cars in our Saint Louis Showroom is a first-year first-generation Ford Thunderbird painted in a rare Goldenrod Yellow with a white soft top, white hardtop with black and white two-toned interior. Powering this classic is a 292-cubic inch V8, the only available engine for 1955. This one is equipped with a manual 3 speed transmission and optional over drive. The over drive is a neat unit. Once in 3rd gear and youre ready, pull the T handle beneath the dash and youre in! Other equipment includes power seats, wide white wall radial tires and a white hardtop. To add some personal touches, the previous owner decided to paint the hard-top white as opposed to keeping it body color as the factory would have painted it. The soft top is also white which would have been black fabric from the factory. These personal touches give the car a unique look and help it stand out from other 55 Thunderbirds. This is easily reversible if someone chooses. Recent maintenance includes new tires, new clutch and a rebuilt carburetor. In 1955 Ford introduced the Thunderbird to knock a dent into Corvette sales. Ford accomplished this with flying colors. 1955 Corvette production reached 700 units compared to Fords whopping 16,155! Chevrolet needed some serious help if they were going to save the Corvette. Eventually, Ford decided to lean more towards the luxury side and away from the performance side that the Corvette was pursuing. The Thunderbird has had a long and interesting run over the years. However, theres no mistaking the first run of the 1955 through 1957 T-Birds. They are the most collectible of any Thunderbird and will always be the most collectible. These hard and soft top equipped Thunderbirds are very cool, giving you the coupe and convertible feel all in one car. Call our Saint Louis showroom for more information on this early T-bird at 618-271-3000 or email STL@gatewayclassiccars.com. To view HD photos and video, visit www.gatewayclassiccars.com
