Tri-Five fans, dont despair, there are still some very nice, drivable Chevys out there looking for new homes. Case in point? This gorgeous 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air 2-door sedan, with an awesome two-tone paint job, a big block V8 under the hood, and a stunning interior that has all the modern conveniences. This one definitely wont last long. A lot of hobbyists think the 1955 Chevys are the best of the bunch, with the purest, least finicky design, and its pretty hard to dispute that claim looking at this 210. The paint job is not quite authentic but using modern paints to give it a brilliant shine and depth, it really works. The soft champagne metallic over cobalt blue combination is simply perfect for getting attention with this slick cruiser, and we have to admit that it looks very sophisticated. The finish was color sanded and buffed to an incredible shine that really shows well in the sun, and the two-tone look definitely works on the simple 210 body style, accentuating the cars very best features. It shows a few signs of age and use, but nothing significant and nothing distracts from the high-quality look. All the original trim was removed, polished, and reinstalled once the paint was dry, and preserves the timeless look of this 55. The bumpers have been rechromed, the grille is in very good condition, and the familiar Soft-Ray glass adds to the hot rod look without distracting you from the vintage vibe. The stunning tan bucket seat interior very nicely done and offers comfort and all the modern conveniences. Tan vinyl with dark blue piping covers both the front and back seats, and the door panels use the same stuff in a custom pattern that definitely shows an artists touch. They retained the original dash, but added digital instruments behind a smoked panel, although the gauges do need some sorting. Theres also a tilt steering column, a billet steering wheel, and a B&M shifter on the floor just ahead of the custom console. Theres a neatly installed AM/FM/cassette stereo in the center of the dash and it uses original-looking knobs to help camouflage the upgrade. An A/C system has been installed with vents under the dash (needs to be serviced), and the trunk has been finished to match. The engine is a thundering 454 cubic inch V8 with a few aftermarket speed parts and enough flash to make it worth opening the hood at the local cruise night. Its a tight fit in there, but it works rather well in the lightweight Bel Air. Its fed by an Edelbrock intake manifold and 4-barrel carburetor, and an MSD ignition system lights it up. Chrome valve covers match the tall air cleaner and accessories, and with a giant aluminum radiator up front it never gets fussy. Block-hugging headers dump into a custom dual exhaust system with Flowmaster mufflers and chrome pipes right under the one-piece California bumper. A TH350 3-speed automatic is the right transmission for a car like this and it drives a GM 10-bolt rear end. Power 4-wheel disc brakes with Wilwood calipers improve safety and it rolls on a set of chrome Ridler wheels wearing staggered 225/45/17 front and 245/45/18 rear Toyo radials. To duplicate this car, youd be well past the asking price before you were done with the paint and chrome, never mind the engine and interior. The driver gets the speedometer with the fuel and temp gauges of course, while controls and the AM radio are set into the chrome panel that runs across the center, and the passenger gets Bel Air in gold along with a clock in their dash pod. Red carpeting with red vinyl floormats finish the look off nicely. Open the hood and you will find a fully restored and completely stock 265 cubic inch V8 nestled down in a meticulously detailed out engine bay. This engine was first offered in the 55 models and this one is believed to be the original one that the car was delivered with. It was groundbreaking at the time with its overhead valve, high compression, short stroke design. A glossy black air filter tops the motor with the proper Chevy Orange coating all the engine iron. Chevrolet lettering on the valve covers is highlighted in black and all the belts and hoses as well as the generator and power steering pump are new. Power flows back through a 3-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels mounted on leaf springs. This was a frame off restoration so everything on the chassis has been properly and meticulously cleaned, painted, repaired or replaced as part of the process. This is a real VC VIN, meaning it is an original V8 Bel Air from the factory. Mechanical This Tri-Five beauty has a freshly rebuilt 350 V8 with a freshly rebuilt 700R4 automatic transmission, making this a great cruiser. The engine is mildly built with a Comp Cams camshaft, Edelbrock Performer aluminum intake with Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor, HEI and electric fuel pump. A Griffin aluminum radiator keeps this SBC nice and cool with the help of dual electric fans. An Optima Red Top battery has been installed along with Vintage Air. The 700R4 is a cruisers transmission that will handle highway speeds with ease. It is connected to a 12-bolt rear end with 3.30 gears. The power steering is nice and tight with a CPP 500 steering box. The power disc brakes have upgraded drilled and slotted rotors providing plenty of stopping power. There clean lines and finless design make them great candidates for full on custom builds. Art Morrison started out building frames for tubbed out drag cars in the 70 s and 80 s but the company really took off when he began building his line of pro-touring chassis . This 55 is sitting on one of his custom-built frames which not only looks good but increases the handling of the car dramatically. Finished off in the same Erica red paint as the body making the transition from floor pan to frame almost seamless. With touches of chrome here and there to break it up you can tell this was a well thought out build. The stance of the car was also dramatically changed due to the chassis as well with it sitting much lower than a stock 55. The wheels will be the next thing you notice with the set consisting of 18 s in the front and 20 s in the back giving the car that aggressive look. Behind those wheels are a set of chrome plated calipers that blend nicely while the cross-drilled and slotted rotors show people you mean business. Under that silky-smooth hood is was most consider the Mecca of LS powerplants. This LS7 has been built with a mild cam giving it a nice lope at idle but the real work is in the details. The intake has been painted to match with the custom firewall being cleaned up which flows into the custom inner fender wells. A custom piece of metal was formed to cover up the radiator as well making this engine bay look seamless like the rest of the car. Putting power to the road is a built 4l60 transmission giving you the capability to drive this beauty down the freeway comfortably at highway speeds. Inside the custom touches are extensive with the dash being made from one piece of metal as well. The gauges and AC vents are molded into that custom dash as well keeping with that flowing design. The leather wrapped seats are extremely comfortable while the Lokar shifter sits perfectly in the custom-made console. This 1990 marine high-performance big block engine was line honed, decked and balanced, and it was extensively upgraded with J-E Pistons, Speed Pro Plasma-Moly Rings, Eagle Rods, Comp Cams Pure Energy Camshaft, Comp Cams Magnum Roller Rocker Arms, Crane Roller Lifters and an MSD ignition system including high torque starter, distributor, coil and cap. This engine mates to a TH400 Turbo 400 with Gear Vendor Under/Over drive, a TCI 2500 Stall Converter and a Hurst shifter. This power is sent to the rear wheel through a nine-inch Ford rear end that has been shortened by eight inches for the mini tubs, and overall performance and handling has been optimized with tubular steel A-arms, Hotchkiss dropped spindles and four-wheel disc brakes. And thats just the performance side of this car. The body is straight and was given a rich, custom black-over-burgundy paint job with beautiful chrome and 15-inch Center Line wheels.
