In the 1950 s the automobile industry was getting to be extraordinarily competitive, and because of this car manufacturing companies needed to up their game. Ford was looking to grab the attention of people and be unique enough that journalists would write writeups to lure the people to their vehicles. With the 1954 Ford Skyliner they did just that. It was based on the two-door hardtop Crest model from before, and then Ford went one step further. They added a tinted glass top to give a more open air type of feeling. It was big for Ford solely because this was the first model to hold a glass roof which was mass produced in cars that were affordable for people. In 1954 only 13,144 models were built, and they became a very hot vehicle due to the uniqueness and limited amount. This particular 1954 Ford Skyliner is one of those 13,144. On top of being one of the limited amounts, it is 100% entirely original. This Ford is powered by the Y block 239 V8 engine, and it has a 3 Speed Manual transmission. It is a Sandstone White, with a White and Green interior. It also has the Tinted Green glass top! Like stated before, nothing on the inside has been altered, and it remains an original survivor making it all the more unique, being there were only that 13,144 produced. On a side note, a neat fact about this vehicle is that it came from Casino magnate Bill Harrahs museum collection in Las Vegas, Nevada. This 1954 Ford Skyliner has 80,007 original miles. Best of all is that you can on this gorgeous, rare, stylish piece of history for a total of $44,998!

The Crestline was introduced as the top trim level of the 1952 Ford range, above the intermediate-level Customline and base level Mainline. It was offered in Victoria, Sunliner and Ranch Wagon versions with 2-door hardtop, 2-door convertible and 4-door station wagon body styles respectively. Crestlines were offered only with a 239 CID "flathead" V8 engine. For 1954 the Crestline was again updated with minor styling and trim changes. Fordor Sedan and Skyliner versions were added, the latter being a 2-door hardtop with a tinted transparent panel in the front section of the roof. New 223 CID straight-six and 239 CID overhead valve V8 engines were offered. The Crestline was replaced by the Ford Fairlane in the 1955 Ford range. To see over 80 photos of this car, including under carriage please visit our website www.grautogallery.com

1954 Ford Crestline Sunliner Convertible The Ford Crestline model had several versions of the car depending on what your preferences were. The Sunliner was a convertible, the Fodor was a 4-door sedan with extra chrome trim, The Skyliner which had an open rooftop which was retractable and was referred to as a basket handle design. Our example here is the Sunliner. A 2-door coupe with a convertible top and modernized through restoration styling. Here at Classic Auto Mall for consignment is a pre-fin, pre-jet age, post excessive chrome era automobile. Simplistic design almost seems boring from what is to come, but it was very effective. Suburbia was expanding at leaps and bounds, and this coupe was the perfect grocery getter or night out for the folks kinda car for the everyday man and his wife. Affordable enough to have more than 1 car the 2-car family was born in this era, mainly due to cost. Exterior A stunning Torch Red respray covers all the straight and true steel panels. As noted, minimal brite work, and chrome is present, but just enough to add contrast to the red. It appears a different grille was put in that being a somewhat heavier one than original. A stainless belt line molding runs from bow to stern, is in good condition, and has a very slight wrap around fronting the minimal rear fender which protrudes just slightly. Lake pipes are noted on the rockers, and like new hubcaps are attached to wide white sidewall tires. Topping all this off in style is a near perfect white canvas convertible top, which has recently had new pumps put on to raise and lower it. Interior A simple stitched in white, red vertical tufted vinyl seating arrangement of a split 50/50 bench up front, and a rear bench in back fills the interior. Very clean door panels in total red, greet you when you swing open the doors. Here you can gaze your eyes on the power window toggles in chrome. The metal dash has been simplified to include the original half circle speedo, as well as an aluminum strip running directly under the speedo from the drivers door panel to glovebox. This aluminum strip contains various gauges and toggles to aid you in keeping track of the cars vitals, moving the top up and down, and playing the awesome aftermarket stereo which is hidden in the glovebox. A new model Ford padded steering wheel is seen fronting the dash, and controls non power steering, so grab on tightly! Red carpet floods the floor and is nice condition. Drivetrain A newer era (possibly 80s?) 302ci V8 motor is topped by a Holly Carb setup, Mallory ignition coil and distributor, and powered by a 12-volt conversion. A Weiand aluminum intake manifold helps the carb inhale easier. All this operation is bolted to a 3-speed C-4 automatic transmission. Undercarriage Some surface rust and corrosion is seen on various undercarriage parts, which would be typical for a car of this era that was well taken care of. Some floorpan areas, as well as inside rear fenders at one time had corrosive rust through but is seems in all areas this has been remediated. Air shocks and 4-wheel drum brakes are noted underneath too. A Florida car means surface rust, but no salt damage, so any repairs were definitely due to moisture have since long been repaired. A good driver which it was used by the consigner, who states he drove it all over the place to shows, cruises and any other reason he could think of to drive it. Now getting older, as we all tend to do, he needs to part with this completed car, so he can finish his other cars, and enjoy them as well, hence the reason for the very fair price sale.

When is the last time you saw one of these? This 1954 Ford Crestline Skyliner restomod is the result of an extensive two-year effort. Completed in June 2015, the car blends the unique style of the 1954 Skyliner with many upgrades and modern touches, so you can stand apart from the crowd at any show and also enjoy the drive there. This project started with a solid 1954 car. The body was removed from the frame and given a full acid dip. It retains its original sheetmetal throughout with only minor repair work to the lower quarters and small portions of the rockers. The frame was completely sandblasted, epoxied, and urethaned. All trim is in great condition, and all chrome parts were re-plated. A fuel cell was installed in the trunk (though the original fuel tank could be re-installed). All rubber seals were replaced. The wheels and tires are all new. There is even a new Plexiglas top.But that's just the beginning. The suspension was completely rebuilt. The front received 2-1/2" drop spindles along with power disc brakes. There is also a line lock if you want to show off. The rear is a narrowed Ford 8" using an Auburn limited slip carrier with 3.55 gears and Moser axles. The power steering uses a slick box from Isuzu that tucks in very nicely. The engine is a Ford 351 Windsor that was fully rebuilt for this vehicle. The block received an overbore and was fitted with 10:1 pistons for good pump gas performance. There is a long duration camshaft that sounds great but still has good street manners. Up top is a single plane aluminum intake manifold with an Edelbrock carburetor with electric choke. There are also Hedman headers feeding the dual exhaust. The transmission is a fully rebuilt Ford FMX automatic with a 2,600 rpm torque converter. And of course the interior was also redone. The power front seats are from a late model Buick LaSabre, and the custom upholstery looks very inviting. The dashboard was modified with a Dakota Digital speedometer and tachometer. There is also a Flaming River tilt steering column. Everything works as expected; wipers, horn, radio, heater, parking brake, dash lights, etc. There has been a tremendous amount of work done to this car (receipts and photos included). It has fewer than 200 miles since completion. Everything is sorted out and ready to go. And as a 1954 Skyliner restomod, you'll be riding in a style all your own.
