If you are in the market for a professionally custom built lead sled then this 1950 Mercury Club Coupe is one that you should definitely give a serious look! With only 180 miles since a rebuild and sporting a brilliant candy apple red paint job with pearl phantom flames it is sure to stand out in any crowd. This coupe is a car that the more you look at the more attention to detail you see. Starting at the front underneath the phantom flames you ll notice that subtle touches such as the corners of the hood being smoothed out and given a better fitment. Moving back to the center of the car the door handles have been replaced with a set of custom billet buttons that allow you to open the doors. Last but not least is the hidden trunk latch that is located inside the gas filler door helping to give the rear of the Mercury a great sleek finish. Underneath the hood lives a 383 cubic inch stroker V8 that starts with the greatest of ease and produces more than enough horsepower to move this cruiser down the road while producing a great throating rumble. Handling the job of shifting gears while you are rolling down the road is the TH-350 automatic transmission that also adds to the comfort of this lead sled. Speaking of comfort, if you are lucky enough to sit in this car you will appreciate the tuck and rolled leather seats that are a red and white two tone. Brand new aftermarket gauges help round out the great looks of the interior while helping you monitor the vitals of this great car. For sale in our Nashville, TN showroom is this Kustom 1951 Mercury Convertible. In 1951, George Barris purchased a then brand-new Mercury Coupe for himself, it didn t take long, and he had fully customized it, a passerby liked it so much that he ordered a customized Mercury for himself. This car became known as the Hirohata Merc, after its new owner, and would go on to be one of the most famous customized cars of the decade, thanks in part to Barris restyling and through traveling the county with GM s Motorama auto show. This is how the 1949-1951 Mercury became a kustom car icon and now one of the most popular cars to turn into a full kustom. This kustom 1951 Mercury comes to us as a beautiful fair weather roadster, luckily the convertible top frame is intact and is ready for a soft top of your choice should you want the option. Sporting a crate 350 CID small block chevy backed by a 700R4 automatic transmission, this sled is ready for a long cruise up the costal highway or down Whittier Blvd. on a Saturday night. Painted in House of Kolor s candy Brandywine this car is a real head turner! The interior is complete with a wonderful tan leather covering most every surface and topped off with a billet dash board. This ride sports power windows, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, radial tires, alloy wheels, and tilt steering column. For more information on this kustom ride call the hep cats down in the Nashville showroom at 615-213-1800 or visit us on the web at email@example.com http://www.gatewayclassiccars.com/NSH/829/1950-Mercury-Convertible
For sale at Gateway Classic Cars in our St. Louis showroom is a 1950 Mercury Custom Coupe. This Purple chop top Mercury is the result of an outstanding build. Attention to detail was number one with this restoration and it shows. The full rotisserie restoration included a custom interior with wood dash, chrome tilt steering column, beautiful white and purple interior with bucket seats and a custom center console. Equipment consist of power windows, electric door and trunk poppers, Vintage Heat and A/C and AM/FM radio with CD. The engine is a 375 HP 350 CID Ram Jet crate engine backed by a highway friendly 700R4 overdrive automatic transmission and back to a Ford rear end. An aluminum radiator helps keep the engine cool. Other notable equipment includes an aluminum driveshaft, stainless steel gas tank and Air Ride. The front suspension is a Fat Man Mustang II design featuring tubular upper and lower control arms with power rack and pinion steering. Power four-wheel disc brakes help slow this sled down in a hurry. The Purple paint looks amazing and was professionally laid. The body was properly prepped, door handles were shaved and the top was chopped. To add detail, the Merc features custom pinstriping throughout. There is a subtle contrast with darker purple on the top, hood, and sides. To add a neat touch, a white portion outlined in 3D appearing trim is painted on. Needless to say, this chopped Merc Led Sled is full of personality. You can see this 1950 Mercury Coupe in greater detail in our St. Louis showroom or at www.GatewayClassicCars.com. Both 1949-1951 Ford and Mercury products have long been excellent fodder for street rods. These lead sleds still stand today as not only a nod to a time when these were more sought after than a muscle car, but also as one of the most timeless designs ever produced by a manufacturer. This Mercury has been done up right with lots of useful and tasteful modifications, and has been built in true street rod fashion. Under the hood sits the iconic Chevrolet 350 V8 that according to the suffix code is a L82 4-bolt main. This may not appeal to purists, but thats kind of not the point of this car. It has been built just as if it was customized back in the day. The top has been chopped just enough to give it that sleek, aerodynamic look that rodded Mercs are known for. The paint is in great shape especially when you consider this car was built as you see it today approximately 16 years ago. The flames you see are painted on as they should be, not stickers. This car has clean lines and is really the definition of an old school street rod. You can easily swap between the 90s street rod look and 50s lead sled look by changing from the nice Cragar wheels to the steel wheels with wide white wall tires that are included with the sale. Couple those white walls with the fiberglass fender skirts (also included) and youll have yourself a proper sled! The lights have been frenched, again in true 50s style. Additionally, the power antenna has been recessed into the quarterpanel and a modern-style gas filler door has been seamlessly integrated into the other. The look is completed by a louvered hood and shaved door handles. There are electric poppers for the doors and there is a hidden mechanical popper for the trunk. Everywhere you look you can clearly tell someone put some serious time into this ride! Step inside and the theme continues; everything about this car has been done to mimic the style of 1950s lead sleds while adding beneficial modern improvements. Every modification this car has could be considered tasteful. The gauge cluster is a full set of vintage-looking Autometer gauges and the radio is a Kenwood unit that plays your cruising tunes through a set of Pioneer speakers. The classic 50s-style Grant steering wheel really looks nice! The steering column is a GM unit out of a Pontiac equipped with a locking collar that acts as a hidden kill-switch. A quick twist of this column disables the car! Its simple, sneaky, and most would never find it. The seats are custom vinyl power seats that are multi-directionally adjustable. This Mercury has been retrofitted with more modern heat and A/C controls and vents. Not only does this system blow strong, the heat is hot and the A/C is cold. The red and white interior color combination perfectly complements the exterior. Underneath, the addition of a new front subframe adds the benefits of power steering and power disc brakes, as well as front coil springs and shocks. Overall, it is very apparent that this is a well put together rod that is the product of a carefully planned and executed build process. This would be a great cruiser around town or even on longer trips; the owner has driven it to Tennessee before! If youre hurting for a lead sled chariot, stop by and check this 50 Merc out.
