Some hot rods were built by guys who simply get it. Theyre more than just a bunch of parts from a catalog, theyre cars that respect the vintage iron and the period in which they were built. This attractive 1940 Ford tudor sedan is such a car. Sure, it packs a sweet-running 350 under the hood and an upscale paint job, but its built to cruise and does that very well indeed. Preserving the original designs integrity was obviously top on the builders list, and all the wonderful details that Ford added to the car remain beautifully intact. The 100% steel body has been restored to a good standard, and while it was finished a few years ago it still looks great. The paint is a handsome medium burgundy that looks pretty close to the old Ford Maroon that was so popular in 1940. It still shines under the lights and outside, yet its also subtle and restrained without any flashy graphics to get in the way. Panel fit is very good, and its awesome to see that they even kept the running boards in place. The Deluxe models used an updated version of 1939s pointed grille that has become one of the most enduring looks in hot rodding, and its hard to imagine anything more handsome on the front of this burgundy tudor. The chrome and stainless trim is in decent condition and there are roses etched into the rear glass, which is kind of a neat touch. The salute to detail continues inside with a neatly crafted interior that perfectly blends old and new in high fashion. The upholstery is simply gray fabric, stitched in patterns that resemble the original upholstery and the split front bench loos surprisingly modern. Subtlety is the key, but this is an interior that invites you in and convinces you to stay, and you could happily spend many thousands of miles behind the wheel. For the most part, the dash is original, although the original gauge insert has been modified and now houses a full set of vintage-looking Stewart Warner dials. They added a tilt steering column and an aftermarket A/C unit under the dash, and the original speaker grille has been smoothed to give the dash a nicely integrated look. The back seat is comfortable for two and makes this a very family-friendly hauler, and the trunk is trimmed to match and includes a remote-mounted battery. Built with reliability in mind, this Ford packs a 350 cubic inch Chevy V8, which shouldnt be a surprise. Its smooth, powerful, and easy to maintain, thanks to an Edelbrock 4-barrel carburetor and intake manifold, HEI electronic ignition and stock rams horn exhaust manifolds. There are chrome dress-up pieces that are in OK shape, but this one isnt necessarily for show, its meant to drive and it does that rather well. The front suspension appears to be fairly stock, using a transverse leaf spring and an I-beam axle, while out back theres a Ford 9-inch rear on leaf springs. A TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and a recent Flowmaster exhaust system are traditional hot rod additions, and with modern shocks all around, it rides rather well. Familiar Torque Thrust wheels are always a great choice and carry staggered 195/70/14 front and 225/70/15 rear blackwall radials for a bit of rake in the stance. This is one of those rods thats nicely finished and works great by virtue of being simple. If thats something you appreciate, this is your Ford. Call today!
This cool Vanilla 1940 Ford convertible coupe is a grown-up hot rod. No flames, no goofy body mods, no obnoxious exhaust, just a show-quality custom build that cost thousands more than the asking price and delivering a professional level of performance and appearance. This is an all-time favorite hot rod rendered in such a way to make it daily-driver friendly. Everybody loves the 1940 Ford, so much so that theyre still cranking out fiberglass replicas today. Fortunately, this one has a steel body, so it feels substantial, although it does use modern fiberglass rear fenders for an ultra-smooth and slightly wider look. The pointed hood and grille are icons in the hobby and despite the amazing build and flawless performance of this car, they decided to keep it low-key. The paint is called Cool Vanilla, and its a lovely off-white that accentuates the Fords generous curves without hiding anything. Thats good, because fit and finish are fantastic, with excellent gaps and a spectacular shine that will win trophies anywhere but Pebble Beach. They didnt shave or chop anything, and the original trim was restored and reinstalled, so it looks like a 1940 Ford in every way. Stock bumpers, chevron-style taillights, and custom clear headlights all give this Ford a very high-quality look and feel. The stunning green leather interior is a work of art. Subtle and sophisticated, it was custom crafted for a larger guy, so just about anyone can get comfortable behind the wheel. The leather hides are almost completely unmarked, and the supportive seats make this car all-day comfortable. Sculpted door panels integrate an original-style door handle, chrome garnish moldings, and power window controls and there are matching dark green carpets on the floor. The beautiful and simple dashboard arrays Auto Meter gauges across the center with a custom-made strip of chrome running through them, giving it a very 1940s look. Secondary controls for the Vintage Air A/C, ignition, and headlights are just below, along with vents for the A/C system. A chrome tilt column and leather-wrapped steering wheel add a bit of glitter to match the window frames, and theres a beautifully stitched custom green canvas convertible top thats fully functional. In addition to the nicely finished trunk, theres also a custom storage compartment behind the seats that gives the interior a very upscale look. Its very, very impressive. Under all that chrome, theres a 350 cubic inch Chevy V8, chosen specifically because of its low demands for the new owner. Plenty powerful, its a ZZ430 crate motor from GM Performance Parts, and moves the Ford with effortless ease. Just about everything you can see was polished or plated, and someone went to great lengths to hide all the wiring and plumbing. A serpentine belt drive system ensures reliability, and the smoothed firewall wraps around the engine to offer a very complete look. Backed by a TCI-built TH350 3-speed automatic transmission and a 9-inch Ford rear with 3.25 gears on a limited slip, its an effortless high-speed tourer that rides and handles like a modern car. The front suspension is tubular A-arms with coil-over shocks and rack-and-pinion steering, while the rear hangs on leaf springs, and theres a disc brake at each corner. The frame is heavily reinforced while the custom stainless exhaust system tucks up under the running boards for excellent ground clearance. Staggered Torque Thrust wheels with spinners carry 195/75/14 front and 245/70/16 rear blackwall radials that really fill the fenders nicely. This isnt your average hot rod, but if youre an adult who is tired of the same-old, same-old at rod shows, this stunning Ford is the antidote. Call today!
The Ford Woodie (or Woody) Wagon is an iconic American treasure associated with The Beach Boys and Surfing. Since the initial debut of the Ford factory built wagon, Ford was the leader in the station wagon market and in 1940 Ford produced the only wagon on the market with a V-8 engine under the hood. The craftsmanship that went into building these wagons is legendary, and the outstanding styling of the 1940 models has kept this particular version of the woody at the top of the list for collectors for decades. Woodie wagons were never produced in great quantities and the attrition rates were high due to their utilitarian use. When they gained huge popularity in the 60s as surfer wagons, the trend for modifying them as hot rods was launched and today, most of the ones that have survived have been modified. This Ford Deluxe wagon is a custom built, ONE OF A KIND, wagon that Ford Motor Company never built, but should have. It is a 2 door wagon. All original early Woodie wagons were 4 door cars. The last ford Woodies were 2 door wagons. There were only 8730 original 1940 Ford Woodies built. You are looking at one of the most beautiful, custom built, 1940 Ford 2 door Woodie Wagons you will ever lay your eyes on! This is a ONE OF A KIND car with a Hand Made, Maple Body, built by Jody at Cowboy Customs in South Carolina. Cowboy Customs has built about half a dozen of his Custom wagons. The first one was a 34, then a 36, then a 37 then this 40 and a later 50 Ford and 50 Mercury like the 50 Mercury model that Hot Wheels built as a model. This Woodie is powered by a new 350 Chevy crate engine and a 700R4 automatic Overdrive Transmission! This beauty offers these power options, power steering, power drivers seat, power disc brakes, power windows, and power door locks to keep the suicide doors secure when driving down the road. This iconic beauty has cold Air conditioning, tinted windows, a Kenwood Am/FM CD player, American Racing Wheels and BF Goodrich Tires!! It has been built about 6 years and has been driven only a little over 6,000 miles since being built. I purchased this beauty from the builder. When he built the car, he finished it in Black. Im just not a black car fan, so I had him disassemble it and repaint it in a gorgeous red color that it is today. You can own this awesome ONE OF A KIND beauty for only $60,000 which I feel is very fair for a ONE OF A KIND custom built vehicle like this one in the condition this gorgeous beauty is in. I have full documentation on the build with plenty of photos. If you do not particularly like this one, the builder can build you one to your specs. He has built a 34, a 36, a 37 and this 40 Ford Woodie. I am considering having him build a 1941 Lincoln Continental Woodie wagon in the near future. I might consider a possible trade, what do you have? What are you looking for? Lets talk!!! I sure would love to make this Classic yours. What can I do to make that happen? With GTO V8 power, a Corvette rear end, and full custom a/c interior, this 1940 Ford Business Coupe is an amazing slick custom classic that will captivate everyone with all its amazing details. Heres your favorite moonshiner. The extended trunks of these cars were a favorite of liquor-running outlaws. And in this case, the modern Black Cherry gives it a slick and dark presentation thats perfect for slipping through the midnight air. But more than just the cool moonshiner legacy, you want this one because it was the last year for this generation of Ford coupes. By 1941, they would carry a softer design language with a more rounded front end and less pronounced fenders. So this one celebrates its iconic design with expertly deleted bumpers so you can get a terrific full view of the sharp protruding grille and beautiful rear fenders that extend the full design. The elimination of more bright work also gives this classic a modern flair. Shaved door handles, sport mirrors, integrated brake lights, and much more really make this one a standout. But a classic like this needs some bright work. Its now reserved to highlight some of the best features of old and new like the classic teardrop headlight housings and modern Billet Specialties wheels. When you pop the remote door openers, the interior instantly shows you plenty of reminders that this custom build has comfort and quality in mind. It starts with the tan leather seating that has an armrest and individual bolstering for long-haul comfort. The headliner, carpeting, trunk, and custom door panels match this and look exceptionally fresh. The dash is equal parts comfort and performance as the wood-style inlay contains the air conditioning controls, AM/FM/CD stereo, power window controls, and a full set of classic-style VDO gauges. The shine from the banjo-style steering wheel and Lokar shifter are equal parts performance and flair. When you look under the hood, youre once again reminded of how thorough this custom build is. After all, they took the time to paint the valve covers, intake, and block the same black cherry to match the exterior. More than just stylish, youre looking at a 389 cubic-inch V8. So while most of the custom 1940 Fords retain blue oval power or get a Chevy upgrade, this one has Pontiac GTO-style muscle. Not just extra distinction, this was a powerful displacement thats upgraded further by a Holley four-barrel carburetor, Edelbrock intake, and a rumbling dual exhaust. To go with this extra power is a serious upgrade in handling. Thats thanks to a Mustang II-style independent front suspension with tubular A-arms and adjustable coilovers. In the rear youve been upgraded to a Corvette-style independent setup. Plus, you can take advantage of this superior suspension with four-wheel disc brakes and grippy Nexen performance tires. Being a performance build, youll easily cruise the streets with power steering and a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission. Plus, the aluminum radiator with electric fan means this one stays cool no matter if youre performance driving or just idling in traffic with the A/C pumping. This has the distinction, stance, features, and power you want. So you know a total package like this 40 Ford wont be available for long. Dont miss out, call today!

Description 1940 Ford 3-Window Street Rod History Ford Motor Company introduced its De Luxe Ford line in 1938 as an upscale alternative to bridge the gap between its base model, the Standard, and luxury Lincoln offerings. The Deluxe name was used intermittently before and after this to specify an upscale trim, but the De Luxe Ford line was differentiated as a separate marque within a marque with separate styling and pricing through 1940. The standard line once again inherited the De Luxe look for 1940, this time with body-colored vertical bars. The 1940 De Luxe Ford featured a three-part grille with horizontal bars. Why This Car Is Special The 1937-1940 generation of Fords is one of the most popular automobiles for hot rodding. And the 3-window like the 1940 Ford 3-Window Coupe we have at Skyway Classics. It is a great example of the factory style body and aftermarket underpinnings that make this a great street rod. Mechanical Specs Our 1940 Ford has a great body and fenders along with a complete modified Chevrolet 383 cubic inch small block Chevy with twin Edelbrock carbs, ceramic coated headers, modified fuel delivery system, performance spark plug wires, flex fan, upgraded radiator, and plenty of chrome and polished aluminum to go along with everything else. Power is sent thru a Chevrolet Turbo 400 transmission into the H.D. rear end. The custom framework was done by Downs Manufacturing and features a wish-bone front suspension and leaf spring rear suspension, and dual exhaust. The Ford rolls on 5-spoke polished mags on performance tires. Interior The interior is fully customized with plush tan interior with bucket seats, custom dash with aftermarket gauges, tilt steering column and wheel, AM/FM radio, and complete matching trunk with a rear mount battery. Exterior A high flat-topped hood dominated the front look of the 1940 model, as the grille spread out to reach the fenders to differentiate the Deluxe line and the headlights were pushed wider still. Our 1940 is painted red with a two-tone pinstripe and 40 Ford in script on each side of the body. Gateway Classic Cars of Houston is proud to offer up this cool 1940 Ford Coupe for sale. Between the attention-grabbing paint job and the relatively modern powertrain, this car is sure to be a fun toy for the new owner. Under the hood of this beauty is a Chevrolet 350 CID V8 engine that has been rebuilt roughly 1,900 miles ago. When driving the car, one can tell that this engine is fresh thanks to the abundance of power and a strong, smooth pull all throughout the rev range. The engine is kept cool thanks to a Walker radiator. Also, the car is equipped with Sanderson headers to provide a mean sound. Sending the power to the rear end is a turbo 350 three-speed automatic transmission that shifts smoothly through the gears. The rear end in this sweet ride is a curry 9 that is geared just right to provide the car with a good balance of acceleration and top end. The handling of this beauty is greatly enhanced by the front end sourced from a Mustang II. Helping bring the car to a brisk stop are power disc brakes at all four corners. Overall, this car drives like a relatively modern car and is very fun. Upon entering the cabin of the vehicle, the driver will notice the completely redone tan leather interior. The seats are very comfortable and provide much more support than the original style seats would have. This car also is equipped with comfort features such as power windows, heat, air conditioning, heated seats, and a custom radio and sound system. The trunk of the car has also been done in the tan leather theme of the interior and looks great. Adding to the cool features of this car is the fact that the trunk lid is power and comes up with the push of a button! Overal, the interior of this beauty was very well thought out and is comfortable. Moving outward, the exterior features a bright yellow basecoat with flames painted running from front to rear. The paint is in pretty good shape and would really come alive with a proper detailing and waxing. supporting each corner of the vehicle are american racing rally wheels wrapped in almost new BFG radial tires. Overall, this car is in good shape and runs well. 1940 Ford Coupe Street Rod Vin: MVIN55543IND Check out this beautiful 1940 Ford Coupe Street Rod! This 40 Ford is All Steel with lots of power options. The gentleman we purchased this car from did the complete restoration himself. There was lots of metalwork that went into the build. The chassis was custom-made using 2 x 4 steel. The fenders are all 1 inch lower and have a rolled metal seem on the opening to prevent cracking. The headlights are frenchd in from a mini Cooper, and the tail lights are frenchd in from a 39 Ford. The front bumperettes are from a 1956 Corvette. The front grill was hand built with the turn signals molded in the upper corners. This car is an exceptionally nice build, the bottom is silver like the top, and was sprayed with a hard material first, then painted the silver over top of it. The exhaust was custom-made and is in an aluminum casting. The interior features power seats, power glove box control, and the steering wheel is a custom built tilt wheel with turn signals in the center of the wheel. Electric door poppers are in each of the front wheel wells. The sound system is a Bose system from a Lincoln and was specifically re-programmed for this vehicle. Powering this beast is a Ford 4.6 Liter DOHC 32 Valve Fuel Injected V8 partnered up with a Ford Tremec 5 Speed Manual Transmission and Posi Rear End. Nice upgrades include Power Steering, Power Brakes, Vintage Air Conditioning, Power Windows, and Power Door Poppers. This is one of the nicest 40 Fords on the planet and the build is over the top cool. Call us today before its gone! (Please note: If you happen to be viewing this vehicle on a website other than our main website, its possible that only some of our many photographs of this car are presented due to website limitations. To be sure you access all the photographs, please go to our main website: Garage Kept Motors.) This is hands down one of the coolest, cleanest, and unique builds weve ever seen. You wont find another one like it, nor one completed to this degree of perfection. Garage Kept Motors is pleased to present this one-of-one 1940 Ford 2-Door Sedan Resto-Mod for consideration. No matter where this car is shown, it demands attention and accolades, most recently at Good Guys Nationals in Columbus. Another tribute to the car was an article in Issue No. 4 of Hot Rods and Harleys Magazine (see photos), titled Slims 40. The article explains how Doug Klann, aka Slim, designed and built this remarkable vehicle with our client and vehicle owner, Mr. McAnallen, financing the build. After much deliberation about the design, Slims Body Works started a major overhaul of the original 1940 body. The roof was pancaked 1.5 inches with the windshield laid paid 45 degrees. The back of the body was moved forward to achieve that desirable fastback look. The front cowl was sectioned 2 inches, the hood was sectioned 2.5 inches and the trunk was lowered 6 inches. The design is documented on the framed photo we have accompanying the car. It is seamless with zero flaws. The frame was custom built by Slims with 8-inch Ford housing with Limited Slip Differential, 3.50:1 Ratio, Independent Front Suspension, 4 Link Rear Suspension, 13-inch Baer Brakes, Stainless Steel Brake Lines, and full RideTech Air Suspension system. The body is all Ford Steel. Wheels are 17x7 in the front and 10x20 in the rear. The engine is a Ford 302 with 340 horsepower, fully balanced, with a C-4 Transmission, Electronic Ignition, BeCool Radiator with custom aluminum, and Fully Polished 2.5-inch Stainless Steel Exhaust. The dashboard is fully custom with a 1940 Steering Wheel finished off with Classic Instruments gauges. Dan Armstrong of Slims Body Works did the deep Black paint job that is mirror finish. Proud builders paint their cars black and this vehicle is no exception. The interior was designed by Gary Constable and finished by Auto Interior Design of Saginaw, MI. This is a phenomenal vehicle - the cleanest 1940 Ford weve ever seen. One of our favorite clients, a classic car builder himself, has already commented: this car is the real deal. With over $250k invested, you simply cannot replicate this car for the price offered here. We are still open to offers though so call or e-mail if interested. You can see over 150 photos and walk-around video of the car running on our main website: Garage Kept Motors. Thank you for looking.
1940 Ford Coupe (Floresville, TX) $74,900 oboYou are looking at one of the finest coupes around. The black cherry paint looks incredible and it flows smoothly into a gorgeous grey cloth interior. This 40 is all Henry Ford Steel with the exception of the rear fenders. This car has had only 13,000 miles or so put on it since it was built and it still looks stunning. Powered by a 383 stroker smallblock Chevrolet and a 700 R4 automatic transmission with overdrive, you will have more than enough power and reliability. Features include but are not limited to Vintage air, Power windows, Shaved handles, Aluminum radiator with an electric fan, and Pro Street Radial tires. There is so much that this car has to offer, you have to see it to believe it. This vehicle has been meticulously maintained and garage kept since completion.
